/use Blessed Prayer Beads
/use Vengeance of the Illidari
/cast Power Infusion
macro used to AoE.
Even if Power Infusion is on cd, the trinkets will activate. Basically, whatever isn't on cd fires off with the click of a button. *forgot to put on first page*

I have some of the most fun with this build.
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=bxxGzhMdrxZfxt0bbqb
You can switch holy reach for imp healing.
It's pretty much my EOTS BG build. You fight on the nodes which is the perfect place for holy nova/instant smite combos. Holy nova will crit off of someone every time wether its a heal or dmg procing instant smite. Traget with tab holy nova instant smite and keep doing it until the node is clear. 5v5 on the node this works so well. You have a .5sec mass dispell perfect for taking down a pally or ice block imp mana burn and holy reach is wicked nice for standing back healing or taking down shammy/hunter mana pools. At 968+dmg my smites hit for 1,500-1,650 crits for about 2,200-2,500 which is usually followed by an instant smite for a 1,200 SW death. IMP renew is real nice for keeping yourself up aswell. If your looking at running BG's 5 mans and kara for the most part you will top dmg charts and if you went with imp healing over reach you can also heal pretty well.
It's not an easy build but once you get used to it its a lot of fun.

Wow, okay the pvp aspect of this sounds like totally murderous fun (and it'd make running lowbie dungeons even easier, possibly even higher-level ones without risking dying before being done with the AoE spam). Heheee.... I'm so gonna have to try this. I'm not sure on exactly how I'd spec this though, but you guys have some great ideas. ^^
A side-thought on the healer-spec argument is that if the player themselves is a good healer, spec doesn't tend to matter as much. It would matter when two good healers are specced differently (say, one shadow priest *not* shadow healing, one holy/disc priest... or a holy nova spec priest trying to do regular heals, and a holy pure-healer spec priest). Then you'd see the difference in heals.
edit 12 hours later:
LOL I respecced on a whim today, from holy/disc to holy nova, and went to AV to test it out. It was... annoying for the horde, I'm sure, but great random crazy fun for me. Didn't do a whole heck of a lot of damage, but that's cuz I'm geared more for holy pure-healing. And the irony is, I went and healed Arc on that spec later on! With +877 heal bonus... and I'm still wearing a green item (you can see my stats in my siggy link). lolz!
Here's the holy nova build I came up with, not sure if it's been posted yet; it is also awesome for farming, I was doing lvl 70's without having to drink at all thanks to cooldowns and having to run a few seconds between some kills:

I sooo want to try this out! Add to it the awesomeness of PMC set and Whitemend set with this build
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=bxMuzhxtbLoZ0etMbbaZh
and see how far it goes...
I'd want to find out how often the Spirit Tap procs, but I suspect it would be enough in multi-mob fights to give a nice little boost to mana regen. I currently see me mana regen at 37 inside 5sr, 190 when Spirit Tap is up.
Holy Nova's cost is hefty at around ~750 each. Each pull only lasts for around 18-25 secs or so. Not nearly enough time to make much of a difference as far as regen in in combat is concerned. Considering the time it takes to regen to full mana or nearly full, then round up a new mob, the benefit of +100% spirit to dmg (from Imp Divine Spirit/Spiritual Guidance) wouldn't be utilized either.
It's much better to forgo Spirit tap, putting talents elsewhere and picking up some manna biscuits/water instead.
Over PMC set, the
Spellstrike Set
is an offensive improvement. It is guaranteed to increase +spell dmg by 92 during every pull (it is activated based on spells hitting enemies....since you are hitting lots of enemies at once it goes off immediately). For example, If you have +920 spell dmg, this is a nearly constant
10%
increase in +dmg. +92 spell dmg ='s ~13 additional dmg per enemy per holy nova (using .1429 coefficient, not counting crits). The Spellstrike set's base +spell dmg is also +92, the PMC is +99 (with 294 +healing). PMC offers greater survivability in terms of being able to outheal mobs during pulls, but Spellstrike makes up for this in it's greater utility of gem sockets and the base 50 +crit. This +crit is just a bit over +2% crit chance.

I think the staff is definately better.
On a side note...
I was running Kara about 2 days ago and this dropped off nightbane.
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=28602
.
The loot was on masterloot, so we had to roll for the drop. Only 1 other character (a mage) wanted it besides me. I won 6 out 6 rolls (/roll 1-2....1 me-2 him....group got 6 1's). However....they gave it to the mage anyways because "Main spec before off-spec".
So....be prepared to be shortchanged by people thinking that smite/holy nova priests dont deserve gear.
Sucks, especially because of how much that would have boosted my dmg compared to my crappy imbued netherweave robe. But then again....I was healer at the time (2nd place in heals using +heal gear, behind a druid). Holy DPS priests are definately in a bind at the moment. No one recognizes it as a viable DPS spec. They either want heals or mana heals (shadow) from priests...
Blizzard needs to add some +holy dmg gear so priests have a fair chance at scoring gear as well.

Where would i grind at with this holy nova build assuming i start right at 51
Try Feralas
my build is a spirit build. you need spirit for 3 reasons.
1) you need all the mana you can get while holy nova spamming
2) 35% of your spirit = spell dmg, when spirit tap procs, 70% is spell dmg AND your mana regens at 100% while casting.
3) spirit tap, more spirit = more dmg = more mana.
A few questions to point out
1) Mana is given from Int, not spirit. Are you referring to the mana from regen? In which case, going by the 5 second rule, you would probably only get around 4 ticks of mana regen during the pull. I believe this is hardly enough to make much of a difference.
2) Spirit tap procs when an enemy dies. Assuming you are AoEing all of the same enemy.....this would proc when it is needed the least (at the end of the pull). Also....Holy Nova works on a .1429 coefficient (instant cast, AoE). This means that for each point in +spelldmg, you multiply it by .1429 to get the effective +dmg. So....+100 spell dmg is not +100 dmg to each Holy Nova, it is +14 dmg....a considerable difference.
3) Once again....spirit =/= mana. Spirit affects mana regen. The extra damage (however little it is) from spirit tap would come at the end of the pull when it is needed the least. By time you roudn up another mob it would wear off. So....compared to dmg, crit, or int based gear, spirit gear just isn't very effective. There just isn't enough time to use the regen.
You could increase your damage output by alot by dropping spirit in place of +crit, +int/dmg.

Did you guys see what have they done to Power Infusion in 2.4.0?
Power Infusion: Infuses the target with power, increasing their spell haste by 20% and reducing the mana cost of all spells by 20%. Lasts for 15 seconds. This will not stack with other haste effects, such as Heroism, Bloodlust, or Icy Veins.
This is at least ridiculous, if not outrageous. Or is it? Did anyone manage to calculate the difference in damage output for Smite or Holy Nova between old and new PI yet?
The new Power Infusion isn't as bad as originally thought. In addition to 20% less mana cost, PI has the added effect of decreasing the time in between casts. While its true that Holy Nova is instant cast, it still has a the global cool down of about a second. When I used power infusion I noticed I can cast it a bit faster (20% I'm assuming). So....In place of 20% more dmg/heal, PI now does 20% less mana cost and 20% faster casts. It's about equal imo.

so i've been looking into this as a viable arena/BG spec and i've noticed a problem with it.
most of the stats are spirit based and it needs a little more survivability.
arena gear does not give spirit, therefor meditation, iDS, and spiritual guidance have been thrown out
this
is what i have come up with.
thoughts on this becoming a good 5v5 spec?
it
should
be self explanitory.

Holy Nova as a "DPS" arena spec is a horrible idea (using it as the primary attack). It's very unlikely that everyone will be grouped together enough to do a good amount of damage (without wasting a horrible amount of mana). In arena you should focus on healing and keeping your other members alive, or if pure DPS trying to smite the hell out of people. The main use in arena is killing those pesky hunter snakes or treants very quickly.
For BG's though, its only real use is to Holy Nova/fear spam large clusters of people, mainly in AV, the center flag area of EOTS, etc. Causing chaos, breaking up their front lines, etc which results in your team having an opening to punish them.
Holy Nova is meant for AoE farming first and foremost. Variations of the build only serve to add greater utility because obviously you aren't going to be farming 100% of the time.
Yes, arena gear doesn't give spirit. This is because the battles are meant to be short and provide int for a greater mana pool instead because it is unlikely you will be able to regen mana over a long period of time. In this case IDS and spirit is worthless. However, the main idea of Holy Nova build it to get the battle over with quickly, regen then move on. Spamming your entire Mana bar away usualy takes ~18 seconds. Doing this in arena would result in maybe 2/3th health enemies(if you hit them all) and you with no mana, this would be a quick battle for you, but not in a good way. In BGs this works a bit more because your aim when you start spamming is just to run amok and go down in a glorious ball of holy flames. When you rez, you have full mana so you can repeat. Outside of Arenas/BG in dungeons and the world, the inclusion of IDS, spiritual guidance, etc. helps contribute to your overall heal/dmg. IDS is also a nice group buff.

I think it's time I begin posting the actual results of farming to compare.
Farming searing fire elementals for motes of fire. In 1 hour, I got 30.5g worth of vendor trash and 3 Primal fire, 6 motes. According to wowhead, each primal goes for 25g and each mote goes for 3g. ~123g/hr at Blade's edge farming the fire elementals.
Farming mageslayers and Mana seekers for motes of mana. In 1 hour, I obtained 23g worth of vendor trash and 6 Primal Mana, 4 motes of mana. According to wowhead, each primal goes for 20g each mote goes for 2g. So ~151g/hr at mageslaters/manaseekers.

Clearly it wasn't obvious then. =)
Holy Nova. you hit yourself + everyone else in range. huge chance to crit + 50% chance on crit you have a free smite. when your not busy mana burning people down or dispelling / mass renews and a ProM then you would be aoe/smiting.
nova priests in arena should be support dps - support heals at the same time, no pure dps, no pure healing. think of it as a shadowpreist with more survivability in all honesty. although it IS based on holy nova and smite, you have to remember, you are in arena so you still have to do the job a priest would do, you're just doing a bit smarter damage than a shadow priest because you still have the option to heal and you have different survivability tools than a disc preist.
btw, i did some play testing in arena the other day.i went in with spellstrike, battlecast, and a few pieces of gladiators and did amazingly.
do i have as much mana regeneration as i could? no.
did i do better than sam thought i was going to? probably.
should i call myself lucky? no, i did about the same in each arena and we won most of them.
(8/10 games won while play testing, personal arena rating of about 1850).
EDIT
: i've been playing this spec allot in arena lately. its fun, its easy, and i win allot, what more could you want? well, i've really only been using Nova to spam rogues out of stealth and to get free smites lol downranked to save mana yet still do about 500 in dmg. i've been lasting even longer in arena's due to the fact that i dont oom as fast and the spriest i grouped with changed to a Pain Suppression build, now not only does no caster stand a chance but we hardly have trouble staying alive as an entire team.
Restro Druid, ShS Rogue, Disc Priest, BM Hunter, Nova Priest is my team.
we just broke 1900 =)
SOMETHING HUGE I FORGOT TO MENTION
Holy Nova - you need atleast 25% crit for this to be effective in Arena. and you also have to know
where
to use it. it does not work effectively in the midst of all your oppenents that well, you should be casting it in the middle of all your friends! stick next to atleast two other people. for me i stick next to my disc priest and rogue (usualy invis). thats 3 chances to crit + a lowered chance to crit against opponents. sticking in a group is crucial for this build to be viable as cheep damage via nova/smite.
also, something else about Blessed Resil.
specing into blessed Resil is one of the best things i think i could have done in all honesty. it allows me great survivability and for me to concentrate on other aspects of PvP. Remember that Resil only gives you survivability VS Crits and
physical
damage? well, i took this into account and started stacking bonus spell damage after i got an acceptable crit and its turned out really nice for me.
most people have really overlooked the fact that spell damage ignores armor in pvp. use this to your advantage!
nukeing is fun! the best suprise of all is having them fully doted (2 Starshards, 2 SW:P's) and both the other priest and i open up nova/smiting and casting SW:Death right afterwords.
all this instant cast and doting combined can pump out some huge huge burst damage, so after you've got their casters all manaburned down, spank em with focus fire!

Nice
I didn't have enough info on your role in arena team (how many team members, talents). With SoL, I see the win potential in getting free instant smites.

From a PVP standpoint, I think it would be nice to combo this with a Hunter fire trap.
