Honestly Deepthought, I love your arguments and what not, but arguing with Rebel will get you nowhere- he is a Libertarian ie he is one step away from an anarchist. The less government the better.
Not totally correct, but I'll refrain from debating that.
Namely, there are plently of parts of the bible and/or religious canon (depending on denomination) that are accepted as unapliccable in modern society, so why not homosexuals getting married?
Again, (speaking from a Catholic perspective) you don't seem to understand what it means to be a "Doctrine" in Catholicism. However, that aside, no part of the New Testament is disregarded, and it clearly states that sodomy is wrong. Trying to tell a person what he should and shouldn't believe isn't very effective.
I am not bashing the religious in anyway however, that is the only real argument I have heard so far. Can I please get some other take on this?
Well, I've been arguing from a non-religious stand point up until we got derailed onto religion
here
.
I was never targeting you in any way Damontis. I am tired of rereading the I am religious vs. you're close minded loop.
I just wish we added another dimension to it, make it like String Theory.
26 dimensions! Oh no, we're screwed.

Jesus accepted everyone, people. Gays fall under the scope of "everyone" last time I checked.
GET WITH THE PROGRAM, PEOPLE

All I'm going to say on the subject is this, the argument about a decline in population if homosexuals could marry is bull poppy.
Weather or not you let them get married isn't going to change they're sexual orientation. Just because they can't marry doesn't mean they are going to all of a sudden start being with women.
So weather or not they can or can not get married is never going to change the population.

QFT so hard. I've never seen Rebel budge on anything, and the arguments go on for page after page after page.... you get the idea.
Just a random question but at what age Rebel did you become a Catholic?
Grew up Catholic, went agnostic in high school and my first year in college, then rediscovered Catholicism a few years back.
As you can see, I
have
changed views, quite radically in fact.
I'm against homosexuality because of my faith...that's not an issue you can argue with unless you accept the same religious principles I do; but as I said before, from a purely philosophical stand-point, I believe the government has no right to "marry" people in the traditional sense of the word, whether gay or not. So yes, I'm for equality, but no I'm not for gay marriage.
And I'd say the reason I haven't budged is that no one has actually come up with a logical counter to my philosophical beliefs.

First, to the Christians here who say homosexuality is bad, show me in the Bible where Jesus says it. do not quote leviticus. The Old Testament does not apply to Christians, it is for Jews.
Romans 1:26-27
1 Corinthians 6:9-10
1 Timothy 1:9-10
Matthew 19:4-5
Jude 1:7
and on your remark that the Old Testament is not for Christians:
Matthew 5:17
All you on-religious people can ignore this...this is a completely religious response.

Christian figures' attitudes change very regularly though. Look at God's attitude from a genocidal maniac in the Old Testament to a hippy in the New.
