Did I make a mistake?

Long story short: I have an 80 hunter as my main, and he is an herbalist and an alechemist. My highest level alt is a druid, and because of the herbalism racial that Tauren get, and that I can herb in flight form, I went herbalism and inscription.
In hindsight, the one thing my main needs the most is a way to accumulate rare gems for transmutes. I'm beginning to think I made a mistake in going herb/inscription on my alt.
Do you guys think I made a bad decision? Should I have gone mining/JC on my druid seeing as it would work in tandem with my hunter's alchemy?

stay inscription and just buy whatever you may need from AH. inscription makes insane amounts of money, so if you can handle it right, your farming spot will be the auction house ;)

I'd stay with herbalism and inscription myself. They are both very profitable.

The solution is obvious: another alt with JC/Mine. Given enough playtime, having one of each class at both level and profession cap is possible. Of course, last I checked, you only needed level 65 to train
Jewelcrafting
, which is a mere 7 levels to go on a Death Knight.
Just a thought. :)

Yes but you can't do the JC dailys.
You can get all the quests at 65, but they'll be hard to actually complete. You can, however, do all of them easily at 68-70.
