The problem with flying in vainila wow
Return to board index

all this makes me think of is getting the sh1t ganked out of me 24/7 while leveling it was a pian in the but when 80's would ride around ganking on ground mounts but now they can do it more effectively. last thing we need is leveling in wow to turn in to a 85 dominant air mount rape session. any one think this aswell?

Which is why they made both pvp servers and pve servers, everyone gets to play the way they want. What do you want. Mr. Shmicklev, what do you want?

Couple ways to solve your problem.
1-Travel around with your guild beside you while you lvl (unlikely)
2- Level faster (wont really solve your problem but will get you closer to a fair fight)
3- Go to a normal server, which is jjust about lvling and story mode if you have a ridiculous amount of time and want to read every single quest and nooks and cranny (ding ding ding WINNER!)

It is a fair point, and a reasonably expected consequence of allowing flying mounts in Vanilla content.
Flying mounts are ok in Outland (during TBC) and Northrend (present), because a ganker can be no more than 12 levels higher than you (assuming that you're in the new content exactly on 58/68, and that they're a maxed level character. This means that a small party of lower level characters can pose a reasonable threat to a high level ganker.
On the other hand, as is currently the case, a L40 character in Arathi has absolutely no chance against a L80 ganker. A L40 raid could get Typhoon'ed and massacred.
Given that everything outside of L1-18 content is contested, it does open up the prospect of rampant, rapid ganking. It also allows gankers to sit on roofs, untouched. It's not in the spirit of the game, even on a PvP server.
You'd need a fairly even number of high level gank offence/defence to make it work. Or create 'safe' contested territories and 'dangerous' contested territories for a much larger range of levelling, in order to allow characters to level safely in areas like Redridge Mountains or Thousand Needles.
Inevitably, you'd have to make Hillsbrad 'safe' as such. And that would be tragic indeed.

You shouldn't have rolled on a
PvP
server then if you don't like to
PvP
.
Got ganked? Your fault for rolling on a PvP server.

It's actually very possible for a couple (4-5) 40s to kill a 70+, done it several times myself, just takes a lot of luck and coordination. That's the fun of being on a pvp server, you're forced to fight tooth and nail for your survival and sometimes you do come out on top.

Then you and your party were twinked up, or the 70+ failed miserably. Or he was a much lower level and you mistook him to be much higher than he was. Seriously, a single AoE attack from a fresh 80 in quest blues should be enough to kill a party of 40s, much less geared 80s killing time before the next raid.
I'm not qq'ing about it, I grew up on a PvP server, and enjoyed the experience very much. The thing is, world PvP was supposed to be about equal level Horde and Alliance characters ganking each other as they try to achieve their objectives (a la Stranglethorn Vale sometimes, or Ashenvale), rather than max level characters killing flight masters and ganking everyone in sight (a la Southshore/Tarren Mill).

Far from twinked. 4 of us were power-lvling together on a brand new server (wowhead or bust if you remember the thread). We got several 70+'s (you can tell because of the abilities they use), rogue would stunlock them giving us a good 6 or so seconds to nuke. I'm not saying it always worked, but we were able to down several.
And if lvl 40s are just standing in a lvl 80's aoe, there's something wrong with them.

I always liked pvp servers, but I hate that high level 80s run around and kill+camp lower level players... I have done it, but not camped unless they were being a pain in the ass to my alt. Honestly I wish they would bring back the penalties for killing people that are way under your level (if your one of those people that I just described and you complain about penalties, stop ganking lowbies then)

A level 80 "versus" a level 30 is like a freight train "versus" a kitten that's been tied to railing of the train tracks...
The term "versus," unless it's being used sardonically/sarcastically, implies that each opponent stands some feasible,
reasonable
chance of winning. This is not the case with characters of such a vast level difference.
Given this fact, it strikes me as remarkably misleading to refer to this kind of ganking as "PVP."

Death from above.... yeah eventually those people who do that will get camped and they wont continue doing it. I remember hitting outlands and getting camped by this druid till i hit 70 Back in BC. His name was Cookie If you see him kill him on sight.

Flying in Azeroth is freakin stupid idea, i dont approve this s%$t at all.
Silly alliance ganking kids will flood the world especialy on realms where fraction rate is like 3:1.

just park your 80lvl retpala where your alt is and swoop them until they'll hearthstone back to safety.. usually these players who gank lowlevel players suck and run when they see a 80
