If YOU were God...

I'd go see if she were ok. If the implication of the gun is supposed to be the moral question, it would have little bearing on my reaction to the situation. Gun or no gun I will do some more investigating.
Edit: ArgentSun, you are in the desert with Ted Bundy. The details are unimportant, but you are. You only have enough water for 1 person to survive until the rescue comes, and you both know it. You have a gun, but you need to sleep sometime. What do you do? (You can't tie him up, or incapacitate him. There are other blunt objects around he could kill you with)

The situation I described hardly gives you a chance to go inquire about her "ok-ness".
*Man slapping woman*
*Screams of pain*
MyTie: Excuse me, ma'am, are you alright?
Woman: Why, sir, yes, he is beating me senseless. Why wouldn't I be okay?
*More screams and pain while the man ignores you completely. Out of convenience.*

If the dude is beating her, and she is not on the brink of death, I'm not going to pull out the gun. Even if he is in the act of rape and she is screaming 'rape'.... I'm not going to pull the gun. I might physically try to stop him, and end up losing a fight, but I'm not going to pull the gun.
If no one is about to die, my gun stays put.

In which case I'd come with another gun, shoot MyTie, then the man. Is it so @#$%ing hard for you to imagine a fate worse than death?

Same. I would injure the man with the gun, but not kill him. Then, make sure he doesn't move and phone the emergency services. Oh, and check on the woman. Argentsun, the sarcasm in your post about strolling up to her whilst being beaten senseless made me chuckle. ;)

Some situations are worse than death, agreed. However, it is not for me to decide what those are and what they are not. For me, perhaps, but not for others.
Therefore: THE GUN STAYS HOLSTERED... until a fate equal to death presents itself, which can only be death. All things equal, then I will pull the gun to prevent death, if possible. Even that is a risky situation though.
I find your attitude arrogant. You are no the all knowing wise judge of life and death.

Not all shootings result in death.
So, you would stand there and let someone just be raped, or make a futile attempt to politely ask him to stop or try a fight with him? You can be beat to death just like you can be killed by being shot.

There's only you there. By not deciding, you decide to side with the attacker.
You get put in the position of "all knowing wise judge of life and death" by the circumstances, and the only thing you can do is do the job as best you can - no one else will.
And tell me, do you really have a problem swatting insects?

In response to the first post, if I were a God, I would do a bit of intervention into making the lives of those in poverty better. I wouldn't completely attempt to equalize wealth, as it would be obvious that divine intervention occurred. I would do it in a subtle way over several years...maybe even decades.
I would also decrease the effects of global warming by creating new chemical reactions where carbon dioxide is mostly turned into less ozone-damaging substances before it reaches the atmosphere.
I would also try to instill a movement to start the path to world peace, but I would also make it so that people as a whole have to choose it. I would only give a few people in each country this ideal by visiting them in a dream or whatnot. I would do this more and more over time so that world peace is an inevitable occurance.
There are also many other things I would do. . .

Huh, I'm here...? Go talk.
My question was actually for you. The whole scene with the gun, the man, and the woman.
So I am waiting for your reply.

Has it been specified if it's a personal god like the Christian one, as a protector role? Or just ANY omnipotent entity that we'd consider a god as a result of not comprehending its power?
If I lived in the 11th dimension, meaning I would know all, see all, be able to do all and every universe at any time, anywhere, would be at my mercy I'd mercilessly conduct experiments for my own entertainment and understanding.
I would take a planet, any planet, and I'd make it habitable by adjusting its biological circumstances to support life.
Then I would place life forms on it of all kinds imaginable and set the scene for a race to see which one of the species would be the dominant one. I'd just sit back and see how things played out. With my personal bet on the most hostile and yet intelligent race which would suppress or even annihilate any other species which posed a threat to them in some way.
