So I started the Dresden Files... finished the first 2.
And I started the Nightside.
Both are pretty good so far.
YES! Another convert!
:D
Welcome my brother, to dresdenhood! Please come this way. This is Brother Adamsm. If you have any questions, just ask us. Please, have a seat on our handcrafted Dresden beanbags. May I offer you a coke?
I'm good =P
All I have to do now is wait for book three of Dresden.
Except I'm second in line and the book isn't due until may 12... /sad

Just go buy it? The paperbacks are only like 7.99 or something at B&N and you could probably get a used one cheaper than that. TURST ME. Once you get into the series more, you'll wish you owned them all.

Heh, I got the first 9 books for 100 bucks from my book club... of course, 1-3, 4-5, 6-7 were omnibus', but still heh.

Well, my only problem is that I have no job (Yes I am a teenager).
I mow lawns now that summer is coming (I mow lawns for a few different people and ih ave been for those people for the last few years.) So once I can start mowing I might buy a couple.

The Wizard of Menlo Park by Randall Stross
It's a rather in-depth look into Thomas Edison's history and it enlightened me as to how horrible of an idea it is for specialists in a field to venture into other venues, considering Edison's views of anti-Semitism, drinking milk every 2 hours is the key to better health, and constant follies dealing with what his inventions could be used for, among other things.
....and I have to write a book report on it.

1984 is by far, the most frightening book I ever read.
Double speak ftw heh.
I need to read this book. NAO.
Brave New World is far more frightening, considering it is largely happening already.

The most frightening book I ever read (What with everything in the Middle East and whatnot) is Red Storm Rising.
I have no idea to what extent the events might actually happen, but...

A second disappointment is that absolutely NONE of the other urban fantasy/paranormal combat series have satisfied me. Not Simon R. Green's Nightside sequence. Not the Remy Chandler books by Tom Sniegoski, which was close but no cigar. Not the Greywalker series by Kat Richardson. And not a good chunk of the Anita Blake books, particularly the ones that were more porn than killing, which basically means I skip everything between Obsidian Butterfly and Skin Trade. Try the Diana Trigarde novels by Mercedes Lackey.

Please don't try to quote my post directly, I have used tags that may not be accessible to users and it will look odd.

A few notes about my annotations:
means I have finished reading this book/series. books don't count.
means I am either currently reading this book/series, or that it's pretty much next on the list and I have bought it already.
means I haven't started this book/series at all.
means the book/series has not yet been published, but I plan on reading it.
There are many missing links. I hope to add URLs for all of the books and series I have listed, and hopefully they will be links from the authors' websites instead of Wikipedia. The problem is that many authors' websites aren't as convenient as I would like them to be, so many links will remain Wiki ones.
Note that there are about 20,000 pages worth of books I haven't listed here. Most of them are either standalone novels (or novellas) I have read at some point of time, decided they were good, but couldn't find anything else by that author; or they are the Diablo, StarCraft, and WarCraft books (which I plan on listing at a later date).

Hmm, would you recommend
Unfinished Tales of Middle Earth and Númenor
and
The Children of Hurin
? I've read all of the other Tolkein books, but I'm unsure of these two; and need someone else's opinion to help me form my own. I needed similar persuasion with
The Silmarallion
, as it wasn't as publicised as LotR/The Hobbit. :P

Please tell me that's not everything you have read, just a list of good books, because I'm thirteen and putting every book I've read into a list is incomprehensible, not to mention your missing tons of classics.

Yes I would recommend it. But you don't need to buy the
Tale of Hurin
, it's included in the
Silmarillion
or the
Unfinished Tales
. (Can't remember which.)

I should indeed. Let me withdraw that statement.
I found it kind of strange how the Wowhead community seems to read fantasy and not much else.
Right now I'm reading a book that's great (though kind of slow paced) called The Plot Against America by Philip Roth and it's about what would've happened if Charles A. Lindbergh was elected president with isolationist policies, and gets into several 'understandings' with Nazi Germany, and things get slowly worse and worse for the Jewish family the novel is about.

I just prefer fantasy.

I just don't find the more "realistic" books interesting. I need a little magic in my store, I guess. Still haven't seen a book that has a plot as good as my fantasy favorites, but has no magical element.

Gotta agree there.

Meh, I hold them both in equality.
And I have very strict standards for making good magic systems.
For example, the Septimus Heap series is something that makes me want to gag. (Though that continues in the plot and characters.)
The Abhorsen Series is awesome.
