Everyone will tell you what gear to get, what spells to cast, where to do what and so on.
I want you to know why to do these things. I do not know your skill level so I will take baby steps, I do not want to be Condescending, just cover all the info.
Control and Effective Damage are components that decide you success in PvP,
Control is both preventing your opponent for taking action and stopping the same form being done to you. CC is the most common way of doing this.
In arenas
LoS is the best form of control for any class.
Aff locks Control tools are,
- Fear, Nightmare, instance HoT, Spell lock, CoEx, Glyph of Shadowflame,
Destro locks Control tools are
- Fear, Aftermath, Shadowfury, Seduce, Spell lock, Glyph of Shadowflame, (i dislike using GoSf as destro)
Warlock Control Countermeasures are,
- Devoure magic, Seduce. Racials, Trinkets
Effective Damage is damage that will kill your target. In today's PvP this is burst. Coordinating your burst with your team can kill a opponent before they can do any thing to counter it.
Things to help your Effective damage are,
- High Spell power, crit, haste and, ~6% hit
Our Counters to Effective damage are,
- VW's Shield, Self heals, Soul link, Demon Armor, Health Stones, Health Pool, Resil, Other player's Healing and Control(aka peels)
A arena mach as Destro,Comps, in order from best to not so good
2v2 - Mage; Rouge; Bal Druid; Elm Shaman; any healer; any melee
3v3 - MS warrior/tree; mage/healer; rouge/healer
Note: the following tips is based off very high spell power gear and not so much HP (19k to 20k). I will post a diffrent way of playing Destro that is base of a high HP pool and 850+ resil later.
Destro relays more on Control. If the lock is free to cast he can kill a target fast, If the lock dose not have control then he is open to interrupts, silences, LoS, and CCs.
Gaining control,
In double dps teams cc is the name of the game, you and your team mate needs to switch cc duty on one target,
Seduce > Seduce >Sheep > Sheep > Seduce . . .
Casting your cc 2 times will minimize DR on your cc. Try to open with Seduce. She starts the mach in stealth giving a grater chance of casting a cc with out getting interrupted
Now the kill!
Making a kill is all about having control. When sheep or seduce is on your "cc" opponent, You have a chance to burst down the other opponent.
Destro can use the "in flight time" of a spell to make 2 spells hit at the same time. When standing at range a spell can take 1 to 2 sec to damage its target. This time can let you apply a lot of damage in a very short a mount of time as some spells do not have a "in flight time" and apply there damage when they are cast.
This is done by casting CB > SP > Conflag. CB will take time to get to the target, then SP is the sent on its way, then conflag hits as soon as it is cast wich will be close to same time CB lands. SP then hits close after. Doing this can apply 10k to 16k to the target in the time span of only 1 to 2 sec. You can use Shadowburn at the end for a added 1k. That much damage is too hard for a healer to heal some one through and will end with a dead opponent.
The Start of burst is done by stunning the "kill" target. The stun is needed to stop the risk of interrupts, silences, LoS, and CCs.
Then casting
CoEl > Immo > CB > SP > Conflag > Shadowburn > Inc.
Your team mate needs to set up there damage to hit at the same time CB lands. Next you kill the target who you have been cc’ing
An Arena mach as Aff.Aff Damage is tied closely to their severability, The longer the lock lives the more time his dots have to do there work.
When in a 2v2 team, Aff need a healer who can burst too. A tree that is speced down in to the bal. tree will work best. The lock must dot up one opponent and fear lock the other. Keeping corr and Haunt on your Feared target will keep you alive as you try to keep the other one off you and your healer. After DR kicks in your team mate needs to take over the CC.
I will post more on Aff later.
Also there is a lot about weather to play with a lot of control and only burst when you can kill or just try to put up a lot of burst first and only use peels (aka control that stops incoming damage) when needed. Which one to do is based on gear more than any thing. There is a lot of things about aff kiting. You can make a book on how to use Port too.
I will explain latter, I have to go.
