No, Boron. It's official elections, not party primaries. Sunday church members not being allowed to vote for Romney vs Obama after listening to their preachers opinions. Somehow this is a GOP plot because the religious right likes to vote Dem? ... I think Martin is... well... dumb. Yep. I think he's being dumb.

Well, what is views of Churches (I know you have varieties) on Mormons? Maybe, they won't promote Obama, but rather go against Mormon? Just question.
I highly suspect the "religious right" will be much more aligned with Romney than with Obama... by a landslide, Mormon or not. The GOP gains nothing by not allowing voting on Sunday, except to give the vote counters another day to count votes, as they say.

Wow.
Here's a heavy one
:
TL;DR:
Stalin's hatchet man during the great purges, Yezhov, killed over 1 million Soviets within a 2 year timespan. All of Stalin's political opponents were killed, and then for good measure, over a million of peasants just to push the fear factor into the populace. Two of the victims had a tiny daughter. That daughter was adopted by Yezhov, and lived with him for 3 years, before Yezhov himself was executed by Stalin to politically insulate him from the murders. Today, she knows of his crimes, that he killed her parents and a million more, but believes he is a good man, and loved her.
The part of the article that really got me (part bolded for emphasis):He adopted her when she was about two. She spent three years living with Yezhov and his wife in a government dacha on the outskirts of Moscow, where Stalin visited and his daughter, Svetlana, came round to play. "Yezhov loved me - he really loved me," Khayutina said. "I feel no resentment about what happened to my real parents,
even if it was a crime
. Those were difficult times and maybe Yezhov could do nothing to save them. I, of course, was not supposed to know."What is it in people to see moral justice as based in legality? The dude killed her parents, probably through starvation, for no reason. What I find ironic, is that Yezhov's original appeal to legality is probably what he felt justified his mass murders.
I couldn't imagine being arbitrarily killed by a government agency, and then my kids being raised by the head of that agency and then trying to justify my killing morally. Ugh. That's enough to give me nightmares.
ON A DIFFERENT NOTE:
CNN dot com's front page, center article is
this
. They found someone who says a bunch of ignorant stuff, and saw a prime opportunity to mock God with pictures of Pee Wee Hermon et al. New low, CNN. New low.

That woman was clearly being serious and speaking honestly. Where do you get off mocking her religious beliefs as ignorant?
Sorry, but I'm not debating you, on anything, ever. I thought I made that clear.

Fair enough, if you enjoy it, work away, but to impose things like this on civilians for no extreme reason is too much
WTB bill of rights with a fourth amendment.

You're welcome not to. You're also welcome to complain about people mocking your religious beliefs as ignorant and then do the same to others.Ok, fenomas. After long consideration, I'll respond.
I don't think she is ignorant for believing whatever she believes. I think she is ignorant of Christianity. In Christianity, we don't really know what God's name is. He has a name, and the closest we can get to it is an unpronounceable group of consonants. It is hypothesized that there once was a known pronunciation of it, but out of sheer fear and reverence, it was kept highly secret, and eventually lost, so that it wouldn't be used by accident in a somehow irreverent way. God is such a sacred and perfect being, that to hear his voice is indescribably magnificent. Only very few select people were allowed to hear the words that God sent to them through visions or other beings. This only happened in extreme circumstances, and usually for the most devout and respectful people. The event of God speaking is enough to bring life to the dead, or create something out of nothing. Humans were not always allowed to address God directly, but had to go through priests, who had to go through elaborate rituals and cleansings. This was only changed after God came in fleshly form to wash our sins away so we would be fit to address Him. He was the only being perfect, and yet self aware of sin to be able to pay for sin. If this woman were not ignorant to the way that God deserves reverence, respect, and admiration, she would not have likened him to Jeffery Lebowski. That isn't to demean her for her beliefs, just that her beliefs are incompatible with the teachings of Christ and history of God, and she seems to be un-knowledgeable, thus ignorant. I was being very critical of CNN for using it as an opportunity to put pictures of Pee Wee Hermon and Spock next to a conversation of the omnipotent and incomparable deity. CNN has a history of being hostile toward Christianity, masked by a thin veil of a blog on religion.
You twisted this into me mocking someone else because I just don't agree with them. And you didn't even do it in a way that promotes "conversation" as you profess to want to do. For the last couple of days you have been, in my perception, EXTREMELY hostile, confrontational, and difficult. It is for this manner in which you approach me that I don't wish to converse with you. If you want to try to approach me in a more civil manner, I'm more than willing to give it a shot. For now, why don't you just back off a bit? When I say I don't want to debate you, your response shouldn't be to be critical of yet ANOTHER one of my posts. If you want to goad me into fighting with you, all you're going to do is get shrugged off. If you genuinely want a conversation, then I'll tell you again, try a more tactful approach.Incidentally, many of us prefer conversations over debates. The difference is that with conversations,
you don't have to keep trying to win
.
Let's review the past few days of conversation:Or feel free to assume I answered with a definition from any other common reference if that would lead into your point more clearly. This winding road we're on of you trying to get me to say what you think I'm going to wind up saying is hardly necessary, there aren't that many destinations. There are only so many topics we can wind up at. What you think of them I have no information about, considering you never answer anything I ask you.Well that was bizarre. "What is it you think atheists think?" "How do you define love?" "Same way everyone else does?" "BEGONE!" Felt like talking to a cross between a Dadaist and a preteen. How dramatic. But looking back over the thread, I'm struck by the fact that your questions to me have all been answered while my questions to you have not. You're welcome not to. You're also welcome to complain about people mocking your religious beliefs as ignorant and then do the same to others. One last time, I'm more than happy to talk to you on a range of topics, but if I'm talking about something with you that you requested we talk about, and in the middle of that conversation you tell me that it is "hardly necessary" because you already know how it will end up, then how do you expect me to respond? "Ok, bye then". And then when you are critical of me for ending the conversation that you didn't feel was necessary, expect me to be wary of entering any more conversations with you.
As for this notion of "conversation vs debate", you have NO POINT to which I am trying to disprove. I hold no opposing position from you that I am aware of. There was no debate in the first place. There was conversation, which is what you wanted.
Now, if my position in this post is not at least reconcilable with your position, whatever that may be, and you don't feel that you can post with me in a positive manner, then I ask you, very nicely, to just leave me be. It was only after very long consideration that I did make this post. I made it because you've been around a long time, and I think anybody here is valuable to the community. I like talking to all that I can talk to. But, I know that there are some people that I simply can't talk to, through no fault of anybody. There are just some personalities that don't go with others. If you want to be one of those people, fine. Enjoy wowhead apart from interaction with me. If not, you're going to have to work at getting along. It isn't always easy. But, like I said, if you truly want to try to get along, then try. I'll try along with you.
