don't people kill people?

On a more light hearted note,
this
has been on headlines across the country for how stupid it is.
I feel mortified that I shop at the University Mall... though I'm half tempted to stop by Pac Sun and buy one of those shirts when they get restocked (though I'd probably never wear it).

And as usual, the PCV just takes the easy road off and blames you guys for everything. They've arrested one of the main opposition leaders, labeled him as a pawn of the CIA, and are now making outrageous accusations of attempted coup, invasion of our borders by CIA backed colombian mercs, and more stupid crap.
In other words: Business as usual.
(god I can't wait to get out of this dump)

Really?
I'd be more concerned if it hadn't been thrown out of court. I honestly expected this to go to trial.
Our future generation ladies and gentlemen.
(AKA: we're royally screwed)
I can't deny that this young lady is not a shining example of her peers, but you can't judge an entire generation based on a few bad examples.
Every generation says exactly the same thing about the one before. Our parents said it about us, and theirs about them.
I distinctly remember a conversation ten+ years ago where an elderly relative was convinced that video games and cell phones "were going to ruin America. Pretty soon we'll be just like Europe or France."
(Not really sure what he meant by that..... I didn't press for more detailed bigotry)
Personally, I am more concerned with the adults. Studies like those done by the NSF and it's international cognates over the years routinely show a general lack of scientific and mathematical literacy.
A recent one (
here
)
1 in 4 adults do not know that the earth revolves around the sun.
48% still appear to believe in some form of "creationism"
Almost half of Americans think that astrology is a legitimate science.
Over 40% insist that we put too much trust in science, and not enough in "faith".
Two-thirds can't find Iraq on a map, and 30% believe that the 'most fortified' border in the world is between the U.S. and Mexico.
(Also, younger people tend to do better on these tests than older ones.)
And the of the top five Cable TV shows (for the U.S.), four of them are Pawn Stars(#2), Duck Dynasty(#3), and WWE ( which shows up as # 4, 5, and 6 in the published ratings, don't ask me how that works. I guess, multiple shows under the same brand?).
(FYI #1 was Walking Dead)
How can we expect our teenagers to make good decisions when adults are making every effort to prove just how blisteringly, mind-numbingly ignorant we can be.
If we are going to be 'screwed' by anybody, it's ourselves.

When I am out in various public places and see children misbehaving, when others nearby make a statement similar to "Some children!" I respond in correction with "No, some children's parents!"
I believe that the behavior of the children reflects so much on the parenting or lack thereof done and the blame rests on the parents. There are so many that attempt to be friends and not parents and give many children entitlement attitudes that just irritates the devil out of me.
Now as far as the points toward mathematical and science knowledge, I can see a little of it. HOWEVER, a small part makes sense as many cannot grasp the concepts or have had poor educations and were never taught these things.

Over the course of six hours, fewer than 20 people lined up to see Mr. Zimmerman...
...but organizers said the venue canceled late Thursday after getting negative feedback about Mr. Zimmerman’s planned appearance
Good. Whether or not he was guilty of the shooting (I won't get into that),
the guy's
a scumbag.

Wow, really?
And PETA just get's nuttier
: A quote from the crazy group:The Irwin family has been exploiting animals for years, so it comes as no surprise that Bindi has agreed to become SeaWorld’s latest shill. But plastering her face on SeaWorld’s website won’t cover up the fact that orcas, dolphins, and other animals are suffering in SeaWorld’s tiny tanks after being ripped from their families.” What a load of horse crap, since the Irwin's have done far more for animal conservation then PETA ever will, especially considering the Virginia shelter which has a
82% euthanasia rate
. I really wish that entire group would just vanish already.

I remember when PETA moved its headquarters to Norfolk as I was living in the area at the time. Even back then they were decrying that the rest of the shelters were euthanizing animals and claimed they would never do so. The articles and reports of them doing so began within a year and they have tried to back-peddle from the statements they made in the beginning.
I have never liked many of the stances and if I was witness to any of the paint throwing on fur coats that many of their supporter have done, whether to any of my family or someone nearby, I am not sure of how bad the hurt that person would sustain would be.

The rational here kind of reminds me of people who blame rape victims for instigating an attack based on the cloths that they wear.

That's stupid. If we're banning things that might cause bullying, let's get rid of super big shirts, pocket protectors, glasses, bad shoes...

People bully for the sake of bullying. Their target is usualy something that stands out. Be it clothes, skin color or favorite superhero.
And standing out is a good thing. Bullying is not.
Acepting that people have difrent opinions is good. Bullying is not.
Stoping the bullying should be a priority. Not antagonising the victim.

And then there's this...
Understanding that this is a private, Christian school, and they are within their rights to not allow students that they feel contradict their views; it's not like she was sacrificing kittens on the playground or reading a science textbook; all she did was wear her hair short and wear pants.
Surely satan himself must have been her guide.
Pretty much Christ's entire message was acceptance, tolerance, community, and pacifism.
I am pretty sure he would not approve of picking on little girls because of their hair.

If I was the parent of that girl,
this
is the answer I'd give to the school.
I'm a devout Christian myself, but sometimes I just have to shudder at how stupid other Christians can be.

Most Christians are really nice, in my opinion. It's when you get really Fundamental about it that it starts to go downhill (especially when politics get involved).
