I thought we lived in 2013?
Unfortunately, in many places in the southern US, this type attitude still exists. I live in the south and in my current, and hopefully last, hometown this attitude is still very prevalent.
One of these days, I will read the book on a major racial killing that was done about 4 miles from my house. Many of the principles from that time are still there and have much of the hatred that existed then. This is from both sides, the white and the black. The book about the episode is "Blood Done Sign My Name."

I know it isn't a news article, strictly speaking, but I saw this on facebook:An atheist was seated next to a little girl on an airplane and he turned
to her and said, "Do you want to talk? Flights go quicker if you strike
up a conversation with your fellow passenger."
The little girl, who had just started to read her book, replied to the total
stranger, "What would you want to talk about?"
"Oh, I don't know," said the atheist. "How about why there is no God,
or no Heaven or Hell, or no life after death?" as he smiled smugly.
"Okay," she said. "Those could be interesting topics but let me ask
you a question first. A horse, a cow, and a deer all eat the same
stuff - grass. Yet a deer excretes little pellets, while a cow turns
out a flat patty, but a horse produces clumps. Why do you suppose that is?"
The atheist, visibly surprised by the little girl's intelligence,
thinks about it and says, "Hmmm, I have no idea." To which
the little girl replies, "Do you really feel qualified to discuss
God, Heaven and Hell, or life after death, when you don't know $%^&?"
And then she went back to reading her book.A while ago, here on wowhead, I talked about the "visibly shaken professor dropped his chalk" stories. I explained how I dislike them, because they are obviously fictitious, and made to do nothing but mock an opponent. It makes the person whom agrees with the story a smarmy know it all. No one here agreed with me. Everyone thought that the story that we were talking about then (it's been a while), sounded completely plausible, and they even laughed along and mocked the person who got "told". The difference between that story and this story, is that this one mocks an atheist, not a religious person. Can we all now see how implausible and stupid these kinds of stories are?

I'm not sure that anybody really thinks that it's 'completely plausible'. I'm happy to admit that I smile at both stories.
It's worth noting though that the story that you linked from Facebook can be applied to pretty much any topic or demographic as it's a very generic punchline.(##RESPBREAK##)8##DELIM##Squishalot##DELIM##

Incidentally the first time I heard the "how can you X if you don't know *!@#" line was in regards to politics. It got a chuckle from me, mostly because I'm not affiliated with either major party and it's kind of funny to watch them always at each other's throats.

On a side note, I started thinking about the little girl's actual question. Cows have distinctly different excretion, most likely due to their quad-stomach rumination process. The physiological differences between deer and horses would explain the difference between pellet and slop (how else would you describe it?) excretion.

I know pellets are often the product of the actual mechanical structure of the rectum and tail-end (literally) of the digestive tract. The muscles contract rhythmically as opposed to contracting and staying contracted for a length of time.

I kind of doubt you are so lofty. Inside I'm sure you identify with some political leanings, and therefore, identify with one party more than the other. That said, when someone makes up a story, usually on the internet, but occasionally in person, where they portray themselves, or their 'side' as being so witty, that the other person is lost for words, I don't find it amusing.
In person, I call it the then he said "well, what do you mean"story. It goes like this:
I was talking to this liberal friend of mine, and he was all like "government should take care of everyone and give out free healthcare". Then I said to him that nothing is free. Then he said "well, what do you mean". And then I just told him, that taxes pay for it, and explained basic economics to him. He just stood there, with this look on his face like he didn't understand any of it.
I don't like these stories because I don't like pride. But, what really gets me is when I hear/see the person receiving the story laugh along with the teller, as if they completely believe it. And, it wasn't too long ago where there was this story about this Christian who "got told", in this forum, and there were a slew of people convinced that it was 100% accurate, because 'that's how Christians actually are'.
I actually really really dislike these stories, no matter what ideology is the butt of it, and they are very popular, because people find them entertaining.

See
Here
.
So I've never thought they were very good.
Edit: And I think it goes without saying that most real life atheists wouldn't strike up a conversation like that.
What moron starts of a conversation like that, with anyone, much less a little girl?
I laughed hard at that because the atheist in that is surely a fedora redditor.
Lol!

Mytie, the story you posted about the atheist talking to the little girl is a direct attack on atheism, whereas Adamsm's story was an attack on bigotry towards gay and lesbian people, the fact that you took it as an direct attack on Catholocism only enforces the stereotype that you are trying to dissuade us from believing is true.

http://notalwaysright.com/best-not-to-exchange-with-haters/25658
was in asakawa's post, not an attack per se, but it showed nothing more than a bigot getting owned, where as the story mytie posted WAS an attack.
This is why i don't post here anymore, i get called out for not being able to explain myself clearly. i have an issue with that,, so sorry if i caused anyone offense, i wish i could just download my thoughts directly to a computer so that i could get my point across clearly, im gonna try bullet points now.
>Mytie said both stories are equally ficticious
>One story is a direct attack, and has no grounds in proof, i have never seen an atheist start a conversation like that with someone that they did not know (the little girl on the plane)
>The other which adamsm posted, has grounds in proof, and i have seen people act that way, on multiple occasions, from various belief systems, including atheism. (checkout at the store)
>Mytie took adamsm's story as a direct attack on his religion, even though it was not explicitly referenced in the story, since he thought that someone was being bigoted towards gay's he assumed they were insulting his religion specifically.
>the fact that you Mytie took it as an direct attack on his religion only enforces the stereotype that he was trying to say was not true.
that's what i was trying to point out, sorry for the confusion.

This is why i don't post here anymore, i get called out for not being able to explain myself clearly.Wow. Because Adamsm and HsR asked questions about what you posted, you feel that you can't get along to post in the forum here anymore? I've heard about people leaving Wowhead over pretty dramatic stuff, but this takes the cake for a non issue driving someone off.
>the fact that you Mytie took it as an direct attack on his religion only enforces the stereotype that he was trying to say was not true.
In the context of the other entries on the website, it makes sense. In the context of our discussions on wowhead, it makes sense. My example is a stereotypical example of what a bigoted person would "make up" about the other side. It's over the top. It's ridiculous. You don't like it. That was all intended, to show that these stories ALWAYS reinforce the stereotypes of the people making them up. That was entirely my intent.
That's why I don't post here anymore. People will say something about my post before I can say more posts.
