Welcome to WoW! is there a suggested spec to use as a first timer?
This
mutilate spec is generally accepted to be easy and efficient. Your best bet while levelling would be a combat build, I'd recommend checking out
Shadowpanther.net
for some useful info. Depending on your spec, hit cap can be extremely important. How important is the hit cap
For the spec I listed, the hit cap and soft expertise cap (bosses can't dodge) are pretty much required for a raid. Don't worry too much about hit rating while doing heroics, but make sure you're capped before you start to raid, as missed attacks are a huge dps loss. When grouping, make sure you're behind the enemy, as they can't parry your attacks from behind.
friend in the guild tells me to group with others more my level to learn my place in groups better
Your friend is right. Try looking for groups for instances, and do it often. Not only do you get some sweet gear, but you learn the class a lot better.
Sorry for the wall of text, happy killing!

Ok, so, since I am also starting a rogue (just got to level 9 yesterday), I figure I can throw this question in here: can someone be kind enough to suggest me a few leveling specs (from 10 - 30; 31 - 60)?
I play solo, always, and although I'm a noob when it comes to a rogue, I have played other classes (Ulduar 25-geared Mage; lvl 76 tank DK; lvl 30 hunter).
I'm thinking about this for levels 10 - 30:

I also have no idea about glyphs (minor/major).
Can anyone help me out?

Welcom to WoW.
I would have to agree with hubie12. Combat is really quite easy for leveling. You can easily handle multiple targets once you get Blade Flurry. Also at 80 the Combat rotation is quite easy to learn. And shadowpanter is an excellent site to use for any Rogue info.

Just to clarify, I'm a noob when it comes to playing a
ROGUE
. I have been playing wow in over a year already, just not with rogues.
But thanks for the help so far!
