Well, here's a
comparison
of the two.
Demise offers
Feral
AP, so you only get that if you're a Feral Druid. Otherwise, you get AP based on the Strength on the weapon only.
Claymore has 22 more Hit and 11 more Strength; the Haste on Demise is (from what I understand) is not terribly useful for Ret Paladins, and the .1 extra DPS shouldn't figure in.
I'd stick with Claymore - but that's based on my limited knowledge of Ret (I'm Prot/Holy).

Demise
period.
------------
Claymore of the Prophet (492-739)
101 str * 1.15 * 1.1 * 2 = 255.53 AP (18.25 DPS increase)
18.25 * 3.3 = 60.23 increase in top end dmg. (552-796)
Demise (522-784)
90 * 1.15 * 1.1 * 2 = 227.7 AP (16.26 DPS increase)
16.26 * 3.5 = 56.93 increase in top end dmg. (608-840)
-------------
Demise will hit harder and will scale better with other AP you stack from gear. (edit: because of slower weapn spd)
If that's not enough,
Dwarven Racial:
Mace Specialization
Even without the racial, 22 hit rating is negligable enough when you compare the two weapon.
And I found Expertise much harder to get than hit rating, so again racial FTW.
---------
edit2: Oh, and a side note. Between Claymore of the Prophet and Clamore of the Ancient Power, I would go for Claymore of the Ancient Power if you have decent amount of hit rating. The Ancient Power will still hit harder than the Prophet, has slower weapon spd, and has much more crit.

Using Wowhead's built-in comparison feature, as xaratherus did above, Claymore comes out a bit ahead. But, let's say you're hit capped. If we remove Hit from the Retribution weighting table, Demise sneaks slightly above Claymore. This also doesn't take into account the Dwarf racial bonus. But since being hit and expertise capped are the most important things you can do for the sake of your DPS, it's something to think about.

yea you grabbed my mistake there, wrong claymore I was looking at. I'd still run with the claymore because of more attack power, and while you'd run the chance of bigger hits with the demise, most of our attacks also work
off weapon dps
damage range
so they are
(not really)
even there. So its till a synergy with your other gear. That and personally I hate maces so would go for the sword just to avoid the looks.
Only protections hammer of the righteous work with the actual DPS of the weapon. Others work with weapon damage. Compare the tooltips for
HotR
and say
Crusader Strike
.
Meaning that if you ignore hit/expertise and other stats, Demise is a bit better than the claymore for your skills.
If your hitcapped with the mace, id say it would give you better dps. If your not, the go for claymore.
