You should've really thought more about the thread topic on this one.
Dont check that very often since it's pretty irrelevant but somewhere in the lines of 600-700 perhaps?

^ this. Your character sheet's melee DPS has very little to do with your actual DPS against a mob. It has far more to do with your abilities and how you use them.

the other 2 posts are irrelevant themselves, the person that made the post wants to know the max not if its important or has much to do with the actual dps shown by recount etc etc,
but i dont actualy know myself, as my ret gear isnt the best available so id only be able to tell you an average and not the highest.

The top 2 posts are saying looking at DPS shown on a character screen and judging by it, is totally pointless.
Before 80, yeah, the DPS shown on a character screen can be a measuring stick to decide which items is better for your dps output. But at 80, you really shouldn't bother at all. Care to hear a secret on how to increase your DPS number shown on a character screen? Stack haste over str.
It's the max dmg and AP that matters on how well you're going to perform on dps because of instant attacks, not the DPS number shown on a character screen.
Also, having uber DPS number on a character screen is pointless when you have 0 +hit, expertise rating.
That said, my DPS number shown on my character screen is about 600-650 with imp. BoM. But my main spec is not ret anymore, so I tend to pass dps gears to my guild mates.
If you're in BiS gears I can see someone having 800 dps with BoM.
then again, maybe not that much.

Eh.. No he doesn't. He's just asking how much everyone else has had or has. So the only thing irrelevant here is you at the moment.
What is the most dps that anyone has had for their Ret Pally under there?
The only question in his entire post.
Which is also why i said he should've named the thread something else than "DPS cap?".

And that's the purpose of these forums - to educate people who don't know better. In this case, it's educating the OP that they're looking at the wrong numbers.
If you want to see what people get in the mouseover, better to troll around Armory.

That's the beauty of it! He didn't ask for us to /facepalm, but we did anyway! Free /facepalm's and free edgumacation for everyone!

svirve did answer the question, actually.
Really, we're trying to point the OP in the right direction. It seems like he thinks there's some sort of "cap" on this DPS number, when obviously, it's completely dependent on what gear is available in the current patch content. It's just like if someone asked, "What's the Stamina cap?" Otherwise, why would his topic title be, "DPS
cap
?"
