wtf my dps is 1,3k at lvl 72. but ill be 3rd on dmg meter. why?

Because other people deal more dmg then you did. DPS and damage done are two different things, and your/other persons' dps meter was probably filtered on dmg done.

Do you mean on the Damage Done meter on recount?
If you have high DPS and you're not winning on Damage Done, this means that you don't have a good % of Time On Target. You're moving around, or not hitting, etc.
Also keep in mind that Paladin tanks will often beat you on the Damage Done meter until you're raid geared, as their abilities are short cooldown aoe's (but probably won't beat you on the DPS meter).

This conversation has happened b4, they are both important. A combat rogue that can hit 13k DPS on the heart to hit hard mode XT is beneficial, as is a sustained 7k dps muti rogue that pushes the kill b4 enrage after his health jumps up. Both DMG done and DPS output correlate to the same goal, kill the boss, both are tools used by raid leaders and guild masters to determine the preformance and improvement of the people they play with. Say one is better than the other is rediculous, they are both useful stats to gauge yourself by. The most useful stat though is if you got the job done, did you meet your goals for that raid for yourself, and down the bosses you set out to down in the way you wanted to. That is what really matters at the end of the day.

I have a question that is sort of related and, as with all my posts in this past two weeks, bear with me as I am literally a noob.
In a group, I usually have the best vantage point since I circle around the tank and I am looking back at the casters and ranged DPS. If for whatever reason they start getting attacked (specifically, the casters), who is supposed to go get the mob(s) in question? Presumably, I would assume the tank should go get them, but does the rogue have any responsibility at all? In other words, what is worse: leaving the others to fend for themselves or coming off and losing some DPS time? Is it more important to levy damage wherever necessary or to stay handcuffed to the tank and work with what he/she is working on?

If it is trash mobs, I try to throw a blind or if on CD, gouge (hey, those few seconds can be a lifesaver to some) at the runaway mob. But it is DEFINITELY the tank's job to get any mobs that leave his attention and run towards another raider. And I only do that for raiders I care for, so the stuck up pricks or straight noobs can just go fend for themselves.
Not much you can even do if it's a boss....
btw, this is a derailment no matter how you look at it :p

If you are talking about the thread being jacked, sorry. I am a bit old; having gnawed my teeth on USENET and I was always taught that it is better to threadjack a thread (the less egregious the better) than create a new one. It, assuming everyone is bringing good questions and answers, can kill two birds with one stone.
Then again, that was when bandwidth was a serious issue.
