If you are a Christian organization going out to public housing projects to convert children to christianity, then you
are
forcing your religion on people...
Really?
So, if I go to a public housing project, and the topic of religion comes up, and I explain what I believe Christianity is in the hopes that some people that aren't Christians will convert, I'm forcing my religion?
You wouldn't be going to a housing project with the purpose of converting others to your religion. Did you even read the article?

How is trying to convert people to christianity equivilant to FORCEING them to convert to christianity.
Perhaps, it isn't? But, that would make you wrong, and you'd never admit to that.

They are going there with the purpose of converting children to their own religious beliefs. Children are already vulnerable, but those who are poor and have unstable families are even more vulnerable than most. Religious groups trying to take advantage of them in their position is just shameless.
Laihendi may be stubborn... he actually considers himself fairly open minded. Either way, it is pointless for Laihendi to post in this discussion anymore. He has made his case, and you and Absol ignore it. Have fun with this thread.

"They said they have a policy now whereby we can't come in and talk about God or Christ," Koehn said. "We can come in and play games and talk about moral things, but we can't mention the name of God."
They're banning themselves basically. They can't keep their mouth shut and just help other people, instead they put their religious goals of converting people before actually helping them. They're worthless humans.
Quoting myself so that you read it again and realize that these people are terrible. They have the opportunity to help people, but instead they decline because they can't push their religion on others.
They should be banned.

They should be banned. They have the opportunity to help people, they DO, then they give the opportunity to accept thier religion, which is optional.
Did you read the story or just see 'christian' and start foaming at the mouth.

I'm arguing about how you're defining what forcing religion is. The article has nothing to do with that.
"Then at the end, there's an opportunity for the children to respond to an invitation to accept Christ as their savior," he said.
That is how they are forcing religion on the children.
They assume the need saving. They tell the children (maybe not in these words) that they are doomed to a life in hell if they don't choose their god.
What if it was a sect of Islamic extremists? They would be doing everything exactly the same, saying how their religion could save them whilst helping them, only their method of being saved is to blow yourself up aggainst the oppressors. What about christian extremists (or any other religion)?

opportunity =/= force
Also they gain parental consent beforehand.

I'm pretty sure the article doesn't say that (though I skimmed it, so a quote would be nice). So where did that little piece come from?
Otherwise, I'm curious to see why the Supreme Court found it illegal.

Ok, I
checked the related court case out
, and found that the actions of the school were said to be in violation to the first Amendment, and quite specifically free speech.
not only to convert them to Christianity
Media hyperbole.

It is amazing that everyone in this thread that agrees with the ban does so because they disagree personally with what the individuals were doing, not because the actions were illegal, or inappropriate for public ground. If the situation were a bunch of muslims preaching to kids, I would still be saying that they should be allowed to, as long as they aren't doing anything illegal.
This is, another example of people willing to give up thier freedoms just to hinder someone else's freedoms. Don't you people
think
? Can't you see past the fact they are christian, and look at the unconstitutionality of the ban itself?

/facepalm
Three Questions:
1) What would randomness be without the debate or otherwise quality threads?
2) Why?
3) Who the hell are you?
Win. I really don't see how telling someone about your religion is "forcing them". that they are aiming at children, might be a bit wrong, I dunno. What scares/ makes me ponder is that they are so sure that "Jesus is their saviour", how can I know that I am right and that they are wrong?
