Probably one of the most overlooked skills in PVP. A rogue can distract another player in pvp which forces the other player's character to turn towards the area where you "threw" the distract.

This is very useful against players that are running away from you as well as mis-directing the user from where you are.

Distract is very effective against flag carriers in WSG. Some FC dont even realize they have been distracted and will run back at least 20-30 yeards, and even if they realize it delays their run for at least 2 seconds.

PvE: Use it to stop monsters and such from noticing you or to stop a patrol for a few seconds.

PvP: Use it to stop an opponent from running away or to turn an opponent away from yourself so you can get an ambush.

The ability can also be used OUTSIDE of stealth too, as long as the "distractee"/target isn't in combat. Also quite useful for pickpocketing whilst soloing.

Can also be used in PvE for 'splitting' patrols. For example, if an elite mob is escorted by some others, distract the elite mob only (get the aoe green circle so it just covers him) and only he will turn and stop, whilst his patrol keeps walking.

You can use this skill to spin around hostile players, it flips their direction the same way it does to mobs.

This is a really sweet move, some1 used this on a lvl 40 ogre elite to get to a book case, and w8ed for 2 players of the opposing faction to come in and fight the ogre, while the rogue simply picked the lock on the book case, took the book she needed for a quest, and walked away, never to be seen by those two players, again.
im starting another rogue today, idk whether i should be troll or undead, i think im gonna be troll tho can some1 give me advice?

if used on a hunter with a pet set to 'follow', the pet will spin around and stand still for 10 seconds while the hunter can turn around and continue. great for seperating hunters from their pets for a little while when they run into an AV zerg.

i'm not sure if reactivating 'follow' will fix this - but 9 times out of 10, the hunter never even notices that his pet has stopped following him.

My primary use of distract is against patrols of mobs too large for me to solo.
As they pass by, I throw my distract out of range of most of the group, with the circle just barely touching the mob I want to kill. The single mob will stay, while the rest walk on without it. Simply kill it after they walk far enough away. If you wait more than 10 seconds however, it will run to catch up with the others.
The idea came to me when I was sneaking alongside a patrol, and one of them stopped to try to spot me, with the others continuing on ahead.

I haven't tried this, but just sneaking near a patrol might be an alternative for rogues before they get distract, or for druids in their sneaky kitty form. It would be more difficult however. You would have to get just close enough for a mob to stop, but not see you, and the mob would only stop for a few seconds, so the timing would be even more important. Let me know if you try this.

In addition to the many other fun uses of distract, it enables a stealthed rogue to unerringly approach enemies without being detected. I am almost never detected when using this skill, even when approaching mobs 2-4 levels above me (I have zero talent points in MoD). Almost every single rogue build I have seen includes five points in MoD. This is a complete waste of talents that could be spent elsewhere. Once a rogue has learned how to effectively use distract, he will never need MoD again. Admittedly it is more effective in pve than pvp, but even in pvp, proper use of distract should cause the would-be MoDer to re-think the necessity of allocating their points there.

It can be used against higher lvls while stealthed and some might even come to the conclusion that its a higher lvl rogue nearby and run.

fun for a rogue its more of a fast and skilled thing, i have my rogue distract one of the patrols and leave the other one going, then i pick pocket and kill the mob before the other patrol comes back then i stealth, cause i have 5 skill points on camoflauge when i stealth in 5 seconds i pickpoket and kill the other patrol. sounds kinda conmplicated but if u do it fast and dont get caught its very fun.

this move pwns! so much fun to mess with horde! I was in Booty bay just messing around with this lvl 38 warrior. When the boat arived he headed to it and i fallowed him, and just as he was almost on threw a distract and he missed the boat! then that was fallowed by some orcish (which i belive to be "F**K ALLY") lol gotta love distact!

Dont think so. It makes mobs turn around, but it doesn't make them move away.

I was wondering if this could be used to throw off spellcasters that get u at range. Usually if a mage frost novas u they stay out of bow range and with a 30yd distract u could make them turn around before the spell finished causing the spell to cancel. Could anyone test this?

when using distract against a player, the player does not turn around voluntarily, but it auto-matically moved(this owns for pickpocketing and scaring the crap out of mages)

Very true. In duels i always use this move on mages from a safe distance and watch as they jump around using AoE's and wasting their mana then i jump em making for an easy kill cuz a mage without mana is a dead mage. Also useful for making enemy players stop drinking or eating or both.

It can actually be used to interrupt long casting spells...if some idiot casts it while you arent CCed or slowed or w/e

Mage casting fireball + distract = he turns the other way and he gets "You are not facing your target"...

I LOVE THIS ABILITY.

Owns for both PvP,PvE and gankage...

Another good use for this ability is for fleeing enemy players in PvP combat. Just throw a distract in front of ya, making sure to include the enemy in the target radius and boom, they are running towards ya instead of away =) Also good for those durn blinking mages! *grumble, grumble*

Stay behind The person your gonna use it on and be stealthed or it wont work Belive me i tried it un stelthed he attacked me instancly
