Main and Secondary Names in Forever for Character Creation

This can be good but also so bad....

- How do we /w ? Do we need the 2 name? So it's useless to hide one? If we don't, how do we know we /w the good person?

- Do other people can still see our 2 name whatever our settings are?

It will probably end like this for 90% of player:
YourName Paladin
YourName Hunter
YourName Warrior

This is my question, too. As an RPer, my characters *do* all have surnames except for one - and as long as my secondary name doesn't have to be unique, just the combination of names, I'll be thrilled...BUT...the whispers? The mail? The /friending? How is that going to work?

It's fine, if I have both names displayed, because that makes sense that it'll be /friend Susie Smith...but what if it's the character that doesn't have a surname (and therefore doesn't display the throwaway secondary name)? How do people know that 'Jane' is actually 'Jane Doe' for targetting her? Or will I just give up the option of ever being whispered, mailed, or friended? What about on the AH - will both names display there, even if I have them turned off? What about if I play different modes - can I have 'Jane Doe' RP mode, and 'Jane Doe' hardcore mode?

The questions are numerous.

Why tho. Every normal name is already taken and now you have to find two "ok" names to make a character :S
Cool idea, but extra complications

Its exactly for that reason that you have 2 names. The combination will be unique allowing us to have 100 Alex characters in the same region with a different last name. I'm kidna bummed cuz I used to have a great name. Now anyone can have it.

Notice that the setting for not showing the secondary name is in the Nameplates section. I assume your secondary name will still show in the tooltip, so people will be able to /w John Smith even if your nameplate only shows John. Obviously, that would imply that your secondary name can never be made entirely invisible.

This is messed up if it isn't added to retail, especially since AFAIK RP addons that add last names have been broken since Midnight launched. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but MyRolePlay and other RP addons are broken in Retail, right?

This would be hard to implement on retail cause you would force everyone to rename all at once.

^This is what will happen. The reason for the dual names is because instead of 10 realms with 10 "Alex" names, we will have 3 realms that will support only 3 "Alex" names. So people have less unique names at their disposal.

Although I'd prefer 1 name myself and finding great one, feeling proud of it, at least I won't have to preorder for the name save.

Blizz shot themselves in the foot with this dual name, 50% of the people pre-ordering would have done it for name reserving, but now there's no need for that. Combining two names make the uniqueness so rare that there's low change someone will take your wanted name.

I have a few questions:

Can you hide your Main name and Only show your Secondary Name? (Currently from my understanding that is not a thing.)

Is the first letter of the Secondary name still required to be a Capital letter?

Can you still not have a Space in the Secondary name?

Are you still only allowed to have a Capital letter at the beginning of the Secondary name? (I asked these questions as instead of a last name, it would be neat to write in your own title. Ex. Blah the Bland)

Is Hardcore naming separate from the other Rulesets? (I am hoping not, so a need to rename your character after death is unnecessary.)

I love that idea, this option should be added in retail too. For now I'm using TRP3 addon to make my characters less anonymous. I'm not a RP person, but I'm a lore freak and I like when my alts have both first and last names. Having this option in game would be great, this addon weights a lot ;)

I like the idea, but I also think that this can open things up to identity theft. As in, someone could create the name of a major guild, or guild GM and then just put something like "bank" as the second name. There's gonna be a lot of people sending mail and trading to the wrong person.

Nah, just auto-populate the last name with the same first name and make sure it ships with last name hidden. Then people who want it can set it and turn it on.

Disabling your second name in the settings does not disable your second name for other players.
