It is my conclusion that Takk has either multiple spawn points or a large roaming area. At lvl 19 i went to the coordinates outlined by thotbott, 61,14ish i believe, and i camped out for like 2 or 3 hours and didn't see Takk at all. So i got bored and decided to run up and down the ridge and kill stuff to pass the time. As i went north, to like the second or third clearing, there he was just walking around. So i attempted a tame and basically got ripped to shreds, and by the time i had retrieved my body he had been killed. So i came back at lvl 20 and camped the spot i had found him in for several hours to no avail. Then as i headed south towards thotbott's coordinates, he was in one of the other clearings, laid a frost trap, and got'im. So the moral of the story is, if you don't find him in one spot, just peruse that ridgeline.

IVE DONE IT FINNALY FIGURED IT OUT!

30 Minutes to get Takk

Step 1: Keep Killing Everything around you this includes the birds to! BUT their levels dont change suddenly like the raptors do.
((the lower the level mobs usually starts at about 16-17 raptors for the first 15 minutes of killing))

Step 2: Takk Will Appear Right Next to The Little Lake/Factory Place
((How you will know he is going to spawn soon is more raptors than birds will respawn and the will all be level 18))

Step 3: Tame his quick little butt and have your self ONE of the fastests pets until 30 because he can't learn dash but you dont get dash until then anyway

Got my hunter friend to come frost trap it while I was taming it. Here are it's pet details:
Power: 68
Damage: 26 - 34
Armor: 1094
Health: 491
That is with no beast training. I love it =D

I've goen through more pets than I can count, but I initially kept Takk for the simple fact that he had cool colors. I went through turtles for tanks, cats for BG's, scorpids for DPS, and after all these trials I found Takk to be the best all-around pet. I'm at 40 now and have had him since my low 20's. Once trained this pet has served well on all battlefields. He hits hard enough, is fast enough, and can take enough damage that I'd recommend him to anybody as a main pet. And if you're a troll, why not, your mount will be a raptor anyway, might as well run with a pack of 'em.

Hunters: This dinosaur shares the same model as the Deviate Stalkers in Wailing Caverns (the ones that stealth before the instance entrance).

They are much more common than waiting for this to spawn, and with the normalisation patches there's no difference between those raptors and Takk the Leaper.

I've heard a lot of stuff about getting Deviate Salkers instead of Takk the Leaper, or Corrupted Scorpids instead of Death Flayer, and that's okay, if you're a wimp. If you tame Death Flayer instead of a Corrupted Scorpid, you can say, "I caught Death Flayer intead of wussing out and getting a Corrupted Scorpid" or "I got Takk the Leaper because it's there", and that is what makes a true hunter. /bow

Takk The Leaper, what a lot of people like me want to go with their Humar, Well Takk resides at places near 58,7 East of sludge Fen. He moves so he won’t be directly in one spot unlike lazy Humar which sleeps -_-“, Like any other rare spawn he has a LONG spawn rate. What you should do is log on in intervals instead of wasting time Patrolling the grounds to find him. Be careful though as he is an elite also and hits HARD.I personally gave up on him but friend accidentally finding him told me to get my but up there and tame him. (Note: If you want to do something constructive level wise you can grind on the raptors that surround the area but beware some will call for help o.o, they also become adds when you do find Takk while taming so you can kill two birds with one stone)

Finally caught up with her again only to see her under attack by some orc warrior. Fortunately, he couldn't kill her, so she survived for me to tame (lvl 21, concussive shot and freeze trap - no worries)

No sign at all of the speed buff after taming, it really has gone I think, but she did get the jump on me beforehand and speed was nothing short of shocking there, literally came rocketing at me in a high speed charge - guess that's where the name comes from. A real shame that feature has gone now as a pet ability, and no dash for the raptor class to replace it - ah well.

Looks cool anyhow.

Next stop: Washte Pawne !

The last 2 days have been pretty good. Yesterday around 10:45pm I tamed Humar the Pridelord and today around 4:15am I was able to find Takk the Leaper and make him mine too.

Well it is true that this pet has an amazing run speed XD, i am a proud owned of both Humar The Pridelord and Takk The Leaper and as well as Azzere The Skyblade.....all i can say is that Humar And Takk both have the same stats when i compared them at lvl 30 so it dosen't make a difference which one you tame unless you are like me and like colecting rare beasts XD the only difference is that i think that Takk has a slightly faster movespeed compared to Humar,Azzere and Arikara which kept on aggroing XD it might be my imagination....

i have lvl 36+ hunter at the moment and i still have this black beauty! i choosed him over The Rake. had the Rake before, swiched to raptor when i saw him (everybody has the Rake, i hate that). a friend of mine was just killing some raptors on the hill and when he saw Takk, he wispered me and i ran there, ready to tame him. i will probable switch him to something else on higher level, but 'till now he has been a GREAT pet. attackspeed is 2.0, yes, but he deals better damage then Rake, specially when he crits. has a nice AC and nicely HP... looks great and is really cute. everybody just loves him, i keep geting wispers from other hunters "where did u get that?"

i think i'll keep him on my stable anyway, doesnt matter if i one day choose another pet. he's been serving me from lvl 19 to 36+. cant just abandom him.

and yes, his speed got nerfed, he was supper against rogues before that, but with talents, he still runs nicely (fast enough) and after all - you should choose the pet you like the most yourself, not the one everybody else has (or what ever others say - like "this pet sucks" or something like that). they dont have to watch that sweetheart fight for you every day. so take something you love to look at, and dont try to blend in the grey mass...

Ok, so one day i logg on and decide to train Takk a little since i havent use him for a while.

The first thing i notice is that, he is slow then usally! He cant run to enemy before aimshot was fired.
What the heck happen? so i test it out with EotB and yes, his speed look seem to be nerfed, but I cant belive blizz do such a stupid "upgrad".

I rarely see takk as hunter pet on my server (The maelestrom on europe).

So whats good with takk if his speed is gone? dont tell me dps -.-

I just solod this as a lvl 18 Hunter (Without the new abillities). Fight was pretty easy just let the pet tank and when the pet has low hp just Scare Beast and then Mend Pet. I got som Copper and the Greenweave Cloak.

His speed is supposedly "nerfed", however:

Today I logged in and he was as fast as any other pet. So I restabled him and then pulled him back out again and his speed was back up to where it was when I first tamed him.

wow. I have no trouble. I have tamed him 5 different time on cenarius and pernolde. I abandoned him to tame Humar, then ran back. never had any trouble finding him. Once you know where to look, he is easy

i just tamed takk the leaper he was at the spawn east of sludgefen at 12:00 am server time. when i tamed him he shrank to size and blah blah blah all the same stuff but when i set him on another raptor he ran extremely slow compared to what ive read in this forum anyone wanna tell me why?

His spawn tiem is like REAL long maybe about 12-18 hours..
I know it sux but kinda worth it i mean chasing down an epic mount wats better? (unless they patched him up)

I am a level 26 orc hunter needless to say this raptor is VERY powerful and VERY fast i had him attacking an epic mount he hit it 5 times before he disappeared =( Also another GREAT pet Lupos he does shadow damage

If you get this wolf he will be a perfect pet until you start running SFK(lowbie)or if you keep him until ur like 50's and u goto Eastern & Western Plaguelands because of the shadow resistance /sigh hes a great pet

You are partially right. According to time trials, this guy has the same runspeed as Longtooth Runner and KB (still have yet to see KB run full out with beastly swiftness)

Ive never seen or hurd of this pet till just recently, but looks like it would be worth taming for those speed freeks out there.

If he gets a slowdown in speed, or a speed buff or debuff of anykind, you need to dismiss then call him again. that debuggs the speed problem. Its not usually noticable with normal runspeed pets, but with the superspeeders it is real noticable.

ok im a dwarf hunter and i decided to come out and try to find takk but have had no luck will he spawn for alliance?
well after 6 attempts i finally got him woohoo!

So what if this pet has lost his speed boost..he still an elite, and hes still rare (not to mention cool color). If you ask me Takk the raptor is ideal for Warsong Gulch 10-19 and when I get my troll hunter too 19 gonna camp that spot till i get him.

Ok here is my story..

I was in the barrens(lvl 18) and heard talk of takk on general chat. I thought ok ill head up there and have a look..He was there, so thinking that he would be there alot of the time, I headed off, to lvl up to 19.

Got to 19, headed up there and no takk :(... 2 weeks later of checking every now and then(and lvl 20 in amongst alot of WSG)... no sign of takk..I got wind of a lvl 19 named spider in Loch Modan.. Having never been there i did the long run from sepulcher through to LM....took me awhile but got there.... I got the spider... and hearthed back to orgrimmar.

I then got a quest to go to ashenvale to report to splintertree post. I went via the west exit of org(as i think this quicker than from xroads)this took me past bolderload mine and slugefen..(where takk hangs out)..and of course he was there! CRAP! I dumped spider laid freeze trap tamed and GOT HIM!

end of story..

Morel is keep hunting....

Both times i have found him, have been in the same location, east of sludgefen...

Jumps about in that area. He never spawns inthe same place like some of the others. If you have a friend, then Id suggest 1 camp near sludge fenn and the other camp further east..

Hes a right tough one to collar..8 hours later, i finally got mine, however, it was also then that I learned hes not a static spawn, as a druid happened along and when i asked him to not kill any black raptors he said "takk.. he was over here awhile ago"

needless to say after he showed me and after much thanking i whacked my head on my desk for not checking that particular place more often that night..

Takk is now in the training routine.. gunna be my partner for several lvls here.

For some reason, I had it in my head that Takk was lvl 17. Needless to say, I felt pretty stupid after running my lvl 18 Dwarf all the way to The Barrens to tame him, then realizing he's lvl 19. But more surprising, was the fact he's now an Elite. When did that happen? Am I wrong in remembering that he was just a Rare before? He's listed as a Rare in the info here (other than at the top of this page), and I recall taming him pretty easily with my Orc hunter at lvl 19 or 20.

The only thing i use is takk and ressan and personaly i think they are the best PVP pets of course i got resan to late and he really low lv but grinding well help him^-^

i am lvl 45 now and after trying allkind of pets, i think i will change my opinion on this one and keep Takk 'till lvl 60 for sure. he has very high DPS (as raptors are one of the best DPS pets, as you know - slow attackspeed(2.0) = high DPS, and even higher crits). i only think that a bear or a turtle would keep aggro better than he is and i havent found any bears or tourtles that would look cool. anyway - he's great PvE pet as i said. i tried talents, buusting up his runing speed (30%) and now he is running better, even catching running players (alliance, as i'm a troll) which he didnt manage to o well before since he ran as fast as a normal player.

about his location. it's hard to describe it, but the map shows the right place. he's UP on the hill, not on top of it, not on the ground either but in the middle. theres one tree (north-east side or the mountain) and i've always seen him there. everytime i pass the place i go and check on him, usually i kill him, just to keep him mine :) tho he's become pretty popular amond horde in our server, seems that people finally get it, that he's worth keeping (since im not a big fan on cats, which everyone else has, he keeps aggro much better than any cat and he deals ALOT more damage than any other cat).

Takk has high DPS - attackspeed 2.0
medium armor
low health (on lvl 45, almost as much as me, and im on agility gear atm).

oh yes, and he has about 5 hours respawn time

Good pet, saw like right after i got 19. I had spirit Ressurected because i got the level and was finsihed where i was. I was running up north to go the the mine when i saw. I accidently got killed so i rezzed again. I repaired my stuff and stabled my White dino (Corrupted outta Durotar, way better than most of them), and ran after it. Some guy tried to heal me when i was taming and then he figured it out lol. Anyway i tamed with about 50 health left(He IS elite if its rare - elite itll just say rare) I compared and he was way better than my white dino, thus better by far than the regular dino. Too bad the ones in WC look the same, but they cant beat how good he is.

Camped this guy for 5 hours last night, became very impatient as i wanted a raptor for a pet, and i was determined to get takk. It became time to log off, and so i did.

Woke up next morning, logged on, scouted around and there he was. Freeze trap and tame. Jobs a good one!

I got bestial swiftness, and plus his speed buff, he almost runs faster than a mount.. great for pvp!

It didn't take me long to find him. It took me bout 5min. I found him on da east side of da big mountain, below a tree... oh, track beast and aspect of da pack helps.

Takk The Leaper sucks then if it has 2.0 speed.

There are plenty other monsters that have 1.3 like for example Black Wolf (Worg) from the silverpine forrest.

I'm really impatient to level up and tame this fine beast - I've seen her in the hillside spot mentioned earlier, a little plateau with one tree just above the roadside hut.

I keep hearing mixed reports about her abilities though - someone said she actually has some kind of a speed buff that she applies every now and then under certain conditions, so its kind of unpredictable.

Or has this or anything else been taken away ?

Does she still have some ability to be worth abandoning my well trained red raptor for ?

He doesnt have any of the learnable abilities as bite or claw. Blank skillbar except normal stuf. This is as of 13/3 2006

yo I found this pet when I was on my druid completing the water form quest and I saw him and it was weird that he was the only elite around so I got on my hunter and tamed him and his armore is actually not that bad.

I found Takk the Leaper on my first try @ 10:45! I'm very surprised at how many people say how hard it is to find him. I found him near Crysa the flying pet tamer.
