This is a great enchant for tanks, and not just them. It procs fairly often even with an one hander, and slows the targets attacking speed by 20% and moving speed by 60% (not sure about that one).

I've had it on my warrior for several months, and it works on almost all bosses. Only the attack speed slowing proc though, dont think they get affected by movement speed reducements.

Unless it got nerfed it TBC, it's a great tanking and pvp enchant.

Has anyone got an estimate proc rate?

Been grinding for nearly an hour now and not a single proc, I'm a paladin so I doubt im killing the mobs so fast that I've missed it

this has one of the lowest proc rates of all the enchants. I'd pass unless you want the glow

The proc rate is ~1/minute to Lifesteal/Fiery's ~6/minute. It's not a good solo enchant, but in parties it makes it easier for the healers to heal and the tanks to hold aggro, because it slows down the target and generates less threat than Lifesteal/Fiery.

Definitely one of the less popular enchants around.

As a hunter this seemed like the perfect enchant but after reading the complaints above I almost didnt get it. But I decided to farm the mats and try it myself. And now I'm glad I did. You'll be disappointed in the proc rate at first but then you'll start to notice how the proc saved you in certain situations. On 60+ elite bosses that are immune to wingclip I've had this proc and let me escape while the tank regained aggro. And it stacks with wingclip in pvp or will proc from a raptor strike. I guess you get my point. I like it alot and would highly recommend it to another hunter. The mats are not that hard to get or even buy. Plus it looks cool.

Got this on lvl 60 warrior on Phantom blade (looks nice), pretty good for BG cos as u all know any chance to slow is handy, just dont expect it to proc like crazy and you wont be dissapointed.

I just got the loomitzer from AV and im 300 skilled enchanter i havent got Lifesteal or Sader reipes yet.. So i enchanted icy on it.. And damn it never procs. I had fiery on both my daggers before at loved it, but the thought of slowing attack speed and movement seemed great... Bah it never hits, im gonna switch back to fiery and farm scholo like crazy for lifesteal..

I bought the enchant on my mace,my character is a warrior lvl 60.
it procs between 3-5 times in 5 out of 50 fights.
the tooltip itself says when it procs:
"Movement slowed to 70% and attacks slowed by 20%"

that sounds great as a warrior,it is like doing better thunder clap combined with improved Hamstring in one hit,BUT unfortunately this effect lasts about 5 seconds.if you think this will safe your life in dungeons by giving healers more time to heal you then you are better off getting better gear,as this enchant is waste of money,get crusader or lifestealing i fyouw ant to survive.

This is waste of money I'll say... got Icy Chill on both of my swords and it chills the opponents very rarely.

It glows cool, really, but comon' there are better enchant for that money.

i just got this on my 2 handed sword (barbarous blade) and whenever i melee with it in BG or farming it ALWAYS procs, almost 3 or 4 times per fight, and i'm a hunter so it does help in BG when people come up and start hitting me i hit them with wingclip and that and they r slowed even more, but i guess i'm just lucky with the procs :D

I think its funny that no matter what you look up on a WoW help site there is ALWAYS both extremes of opinions so you never know what is true and what isnt. Most of these negative posts are from classes that shouldnt use a melee enchant anyway. However, for a pally, who doesnt have hamstring, this is a nice enchant, especially for bg, and procs nearly as often as firey weapon. Its true that its duration isnt more than 5 seconds but ive come out on top of many a close pvp encounter due to an icy weapon. BTW, on Stonemaul, firey mats are MUCH more expensive than icy mats, so i dont understand or agree with the advice: "go for firey instead, its cheaper", unless your a warrior with hamstring.

This is the same guy from above (:p) saying i just got this enchant for 1 of my hazno sword. Scored big and found an epic that i sold for 160g. Getting loads of gear for the lvl 50-55 region. Im currently 47 (been grounded for a bit lol) and am working my @$$ off on weekends when i can play to get to 50. Anyway like i said above fiery is more fun however i can tell u how many times im stuck like just outta reach and get 1 hit in that does nothing! its annoying... anyway for a rogue in pvp or in instances where the mobs wont hold still, icy is awsome. just a thought gl all

The slower attack speed works on almost all the mobs in WoW even mc/bwl/aq/naxx bosses.

I've been using fiery enchants on my weapons since, probably level 19. I would defintely say that Fiery procs far, far more than Icy. Whereas Fiery procs, probably 4-5 times a fight on a 2.20 speed weapon, Icy procs 1-2 times on a 1.90 speed weapon. I've switched them back and forth between MH and OH, and it makes no difference.

Not only is this one of the best looking enchants (yes, it's aesthetically pleasing), it also is very valuable with the amount of added "survival ability" it brings to the table.

Unfortunately, this does not stack with the warrior ability Thunderclap. Kind of a bummer.

it might be because it would look to cool and blizzard doesnt like things looking to cool its the same with zangthaz the lasher the glow it has ceeps the fiery look away its really gay and makes most people sad

This enchant barely ever goes off, its MUCH better to get ANY other enchant but this, its only good for the looks imo...

Fiery enchant on the weapon, Frost Oil placed on it afterwards. Frost Oil actually procs more often than the Icey enchant, and you'll have the Fiery for the damage.

Silent Fang

(40.6 damage per second)
Durability 90 / 90
Requires Level 57
Chance on hit: Silences an enemy preventing it from casting spells for 6 sec.
Sells for 5 Gold 68 Silver 80 Copper to vendors

The enchantment glows a VERY VERY BRIGHT WHITE!
It slows the targets movement by 70% and slows the targets attck speed by 20%. The proc goes off at least once a fight I have found. I have had it go off the most 4 times in a fight. Its extremly useful and I like it very very much.
THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN GET THE ESSENCE OF AIR, is to have a very high alchamist transute an essence of water into an essence of air. If you cant find one look to pay anywhere from 30 to 50 gold for one essence of air. Yes they are that rare.

My pallys an enchanter. He enchanted my warriors duals with fire and ice. There might be a little benifit to working the 2 together for a melee character. In reality though, if you combine the fact that u have to pay 30-50g for essence of air, the chill doesn't last very long, and there are just better weapon enchants out there, then i don't see the value of it. It sux that i got this formula, and probably will only use it this one time.
I do think it procs a little more often than I thought it would, but unless I'm staring at the targets status bar, I can't tell when it goes off.

i can do this enchant and its way worth it for all melle classes nice ass glow aswell as good proc ability on stormscale it sells for bout 50-60g which is def worth it but fiery wep is also good fiery wep is good for pallies and roue icwey is good for all fiery do = dmg and warrior dont rely on dmg trust me i roll one

LOL Thats crazy the prices ur posting I got Essence of air for 20g the rest I found. Guess I'm lucky :) I'm on the Khaz'Goroth server and the Icy Chill goes for 35g if you don't have mats.

i have this enchant on a polearm, Blight with 2.70 speed, and i honestly can't recall if i've ever seen it go off... =(

on the other hand, i have Fiery Weapon on another polearm, The Needler with 2.20 speed, and DAMN but that one goes off all the time, at least several times per fight! and it looks better imo... =)

I really don't think its worth it.
the proc. chance is (as mentioned before) INSANELY low.. I would say fiery wep. enchant is better AND cheaper :P but the icy chill glow looks sooooo much better then the normal demonslaying/fiery glow..
so it's a look-good enchant ;P (not for use on very slow weapons, like 2 handed ones, due to the low procc. rate)

PvE: low-cost options for temporary 2-hand weapons seem to be icey, firey, and +7. +7 is solid -- I don't trust fire damage.

But the only time this enchant's likely to proc from what I've heard is when I pop retal in a hard fight for quick hits, and that's the only time any cheap enchant could save my butt.

So does it slow attack speed?

Edit: Wait, the description at the top of the enchant info page says it does. Why hasn't this come up in the posts? Anyway I'm sold on it now, time to hit Silithus...

Edit Again: I saw it go off once. ONCE. It has a cool glow, but that's all it's good for.

i see it sell for 55-65 on eldre thalas and anyone that i know that has ever got it says its not worth it and fiery blows it away. It has a horribly low proc rate for its price and it only last about 5-7 seconds (7 being very generous)

Just to add,

For me, the proc rate seems a bit slow,
and to note, the length of time the spell lasts on the mob is about 10 seconds, if that.

Also, if you have a weapon that has a natural proc, you can enchant this to it and have two procs. but not two enchants.

Does anyone know if a Frost Mage using this enchant on his weapon would be able to freeze targets via the Frostbite talent?

Frostbite: Gives your Chill effects a 3%-15% chance to freeze the target for 5 sec.

I dont think most of you get what this enchant is even for. The purpose is not like fiery for damage or something, but if you are a rogue duel wielding icy weapons in pvp its a great advantage to slow the people down like that, dont imagine it from your point of view imagine it from theirs!

PS you might just not notice it proc in pve a lot, but it does!

Okay ppl keep saying that Icy is great and this and that, but here's the honest truth:

First off, speed reduction debuffs do not stack,

Okay now that we have that set, lets take a look at the different melee classes, Rogue, Warrior, Paladin ( i would include shamans but i've mostly seen them Cast and not Melee in PvP, and i know nothing about shamans in PvE). Now lets take a look at what slowing effects rogues have, well for one they can kidney shot, for two they have crippling poison, which procs quiet often ( about as much as Fiery does at 52). Warriors get Hamstring, and some finishing moves, execute. Paladins do not get a slowing spell, however they do have hammer of wrath, works out just as nicely and has a large range. Now, i've just pointed out native ways that a meleer would slow someone down in PvP and PvEm why would you want to go with something over 40 extra damage, that procs about every third hit, two weapons with fiery that's 80 dmg every third hit ( that converts into +26 DPS). And if your a rogue, proc enchants are NOT what you want for PvP, you want stat enchants. You shouldn't be hitting a clothy more than 4 hits anyway.

And Fiery should be cheaper too.

P.S. Fiery can crit for 60 damage.

ICY wouldn't proc for me, now it does. I'm going to describe what changed to get it working with my 1H sword. It may sound strange, but it made the difference. Now it usually procs once per fight, sometimes twice. I've even seen it proc for longer than 10 sec but that was probably two fast procs in a row.

I first started using it on a Rune Sword (rare) in my off-hand. At that time I was almost always in Arathi Basin battleground. My main hand had a Dazzling Longsword (epic), buffed with Fiery Weapon. Fiery proc'd multiple times in combat, but Icy never seemed to proc. I tried putting it in main hand and using a shield, but it wouldn't proc in the BG. I'd stop after a fight and look through the combat log but it just never went off.

I took it out of the BG, used in main hand with a shield in off-hand, but same thing except I did see it proc maybe once or twice in 5-10 combats, very feeble. I'd read this thread and saw others as frustrated as I was with the lack of proc'ing, but then others who said it was doing ok, so I decided to try another configuration, and that's when it started working. What I did was put it in main hand and got another fast sword, but not Epic, only Rare, with Crusader buff in my off-hand. As soon as I did that (not in a BG though), the damn Icy sword started proc'ing almost every combat, and sometimes twice. The off-hand Hanzo sword also seems to proc Crusader about the same, almost every combat, sometimes twice in a combat. But when Crusader is in main hand and Icy in off-hand, Icy doesn't like to proc, just like before.

RECOMMENDATION: if Icy won't proc for you, make sure it's in your main hand if you're dual wielding. If you're not dual wielding, try it outside a battleground. Call me crazy, but I think being in a BG suppresses it somehow.

Hope this makes sense. If I find other clues to the Icy mystery, I'll update this post. For now, I'm keeping Icy for main hand when dual wielding, since Crusader seems to proc ok in off-hand.

On my 47 Shaman, this enchant proced on average one time every four mobs.

The proc consists of a 30% movement speed reduction and a 25% attack speed reduction for a duration of 5 seconds.

Given that the mats on my server total 20g+ I was less than impressed. If it had a damage addition to the proc it would be worth it but unless your plan is to only pvp you should probably use something else.
