Catchy title, isn't it? Feel free to watch it there on the TED site, or you can view it here after the break.
Do give it a watch and come back here to offer some comments. But before you do that, think about the following for a second: most of us here are gamers. In fact, probably all of us are currently or have been at some point. Some to a greater extent, some to a lesser, but we all share the same...let's use the word "passion". If you have seen the video, you may recall that the Jane talks about a form of insecurity gamers tend to have in real life, relative to the online one. Which is true, I think - I feel confident that my paladin can take on this pack of thugs/villains/monsters, but I wouldn't be so brave if I personally had to complete a similar task. So here is what I would like you to consider before posting your comments:
How can you know you are
not
the strong and brave warrior, or the intelligent mage, or the cunning rogue, or the swift hunter that you are in the game? Have you really tried putting your actual skills to the test the way you do in the game? If your skills failed you, did you get up and try again, and again, and again, until you succeeded? My paladin sure didn't fall into depression when a group of enemy players ganged up him me and stalled his progress; why did I get depressed when my co-workers mistreated me, and got me in trouble with the boss? Why didn't I show them that I am, in fact, better than that?
I know I am getting a little excited and/or emotional here, but I want to inspire you a little. So, enough of my yapping. Watch the video if you haven't, get a little optimistic about yourself and the rest of the world-wide gaming community, and
