Frances Townsend Stepping Down As Chief Compliance Officer for Activision Blizzard

Executive Vice President for Corporate Affairs and Chief Compliance Officer Frances Townsend stepped down from her position at Activision Blizzard yesterday. As reported by
The Wall Street Journal
, Townsend will become a senior adviser to CEO Bobby Kotick and the rest of the Board of Directors, while her former duties are being split between Senior Vice Presidents Jen Brewer and Luci Altman.

“She tirelessly and successfully navigated a challenging time for the Company with leadership, conviction, and grace,” said Mr. Kotick in the email.

Bloomberg further reports
that her many duties included focusing on customer safety and the security of personally identifying information, as well as looking into loot boxes, Townsend is most keenly remembered for her
tone deaf response
to the
sexual discrimination lawsuit
raised by the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing last year. Sparking
immediate backlash
from fans and employees alike, particularly when coming from an executive who had only served with the company for about three months at that point, Townsend initially stepped down from her role as the
Executive Sponsor of the ABK Women's Network
, though she remained involved in the legal situation - reporting
dozens of employees fired or otherwise disciplined
after a short internal investigation.
