BlizzCon 2011: Opening Ceremony

We have our team at BlizzCon down in Anaheim and some of us are watching the stream at home. We're bringing you the latest and liveblogging the opening ceremony plus the World of Warcraft panels. Since this is the first BlizzCon without leaks, this should be a pretty huge opening--it's confirmed there will be a new expansion for World of Warcraft, but it also looks like there will be tons of new other announcements.

Notable highlights:
Free Diablo III to WoW players via new 'Annual Pass'.
Mists of Pandaria confirmed. Level 90 cap. New class is monk. New race is pandaren.

Opening Ceremony Liveblog
11:00AM PDT Mike Morhaime is taking the stage and the crowd is going wild. All he's doing is talking about history and BlizzCon's phone app.
11:11AM PDT Players will be able to try out the new multiplayer content for Heart of the Swarm. They have also revamped Blizzard DoTA. Now Morhaime is talking about esports and the over $2 million USD they've given away this year alone for Blizzard competitive gaming.
11:16AM PDT Diablo III's collector's edition will have: Diablo III artifacts, a World of Warcraft pet (

), and new SC2 portraits. It will also have a soulstone USB drive with a stand that looks like Diablo's skull.

Diablo III will be free to World of Warcraft subscribers!
WoW Annual Pass: starting today, you can buy a 12 month subscription that can be billed monthly. By making that commitment to subscribe for 12 months, you get D3 free at launch. You will also get access to the next expansion beta for WoW as a tester. Finally, you get the exclusive new in-game mount, Tyrael's Charger. Looks like Invincible model only golden hued with Tyreal-esque light. Pass is available now.

11:28AM PDT Metzen is now showing a new cinematic for Diablo III. The Black Soulstone. It's edited to not show too many spoilers.
11:35AM PDT Blizzard DoTA looks fun. Now time for Heart of the Swarm trailer.
11:40AM PDT World of Warcraft players, he's talking to us. Lots of promises. The true villain is going to be war itself. "Red and blue are about to get it on."
11:41AM PDT Looks like it will be Mists of Pandaria--"land of balance" and "hope."
