Taalem held his heavy crystalline hammer tightly, still wet with the blood of magnataur, jormungar, and wendigo. He lifted his hammer over his head, listening with pride as the spectators from Exodar cheered loudly. Suddenly, the coliseum was quiet. Highlord Tirion Fordring was a about to speak.
“Grand Warlock Wilfred Fizzlebang will summon forth your next challenge. Stand by for his entry!” called the paladin.
Taalem sneered slightly at the warlock. Warlocks had hurt his people enough already, why were they being allowed berth here, in this place of The Light?
“Thank you, Highlord!” the gnome was saying. “Now challengers, I will begin the ritual of summoning! When I am done, a fearsome Doomguard will appear!”
Taalem rolled his eyes. Arrogance was one thing he could not put up with for long. At least he would be able to kill a demon. One less demon in the universe was one thing he could look forward to.
“Prepare for oblivion!” Fizzlebang cried, a massive shape appearing before him.
Taalem gasped at what he saw. It was not a Doomguard that the gnome had summoned. Such a challenge would have been trivial, but it was not to happen today, it seemed. There, as the smoke cleared about it, stood a massive red Man’ari eredar.
“Ah ha! Behold the absolute power of Wilfred Fizzlebang, master summoner!” the gnome laughed. “You are bound to ME, demon!”
“
Fool,
” Taalem thought, preparing to fight.
“Trifling gnome, your arrogance will be your undoing!” the Eredar laughed.
“But I'm in charge her-” the gnome stuttered, only to be consumed instantly in a ball of fel flame.
“Quickly, heroes!” Tirion commanded. “Destroy the demon lord before it can open a portal to its twisted demonic realm!”
Taalem shook his head. This is what happens when one fraternizes with demons. Fordring should know this. He looked up at the massive demon, hammer held high an gasped as he looked into the eredar’s eyes.
“You face Jaraxxus, eredar lord of the Burning Legion!” the demon laughed.
“Jaraxxus…” Taalem muttered slowly. “My brother…” he sighed, and shook his head. “
It has been a long while, my friend,
” he called out in Eredun.
“
Ah…
” Jaraxxus smiled. “
How wonderful… I thought I might never find you, Taalem,
” he laughed. “
So long have you evaded me, my brother. Do you not know how frustrating it is to search for you?
”
“
I have spent many eons hiding,
” Taalem nodded, “
but no more. My people have found their home here. We will run no longer. It is here that we will repay you for your cruelty a thousand fold! The Army of Light is come!
” he cried, lunging forward with his companions at the demon.
“Ha!” Jaraxxus laughed, hurling a ball of flame at the draenei. Taalem saw the fireball coming and quickly muttered a few words, forming a sphere of light around himself, off of which the fire splashed as if liquid.
Jaraxxus smiled and kicked the paladin back against the arena wall, denting the draenei’s heavy chest plate and sending a resounding crash throughout the coliseum.
Taalem shook his head, trying to frame the massive demon that was moving toward him in his still blurry vision. Suddenly he felt a warm security flow over him, and smiled to his human sister in The Light, who was diligently healing his wounds.
“Ah…” Jaraxxus chuckled. “We’ll have none of that!” he sneered. “FLESH FROM BONE!”
Mere moments later, the human priestess screamed in agony as first her robes, then her skin, and then her muscles and nerves were flayed from her bones in seconds.
“No!” Taalem cried out in anguish.
“Yes, your suffering pleases me,” Jaraxxus laughed, “but not nearly enough!” he grinned. “Come forth, sister! Your master calls!”
The eredar shouted a few word in Eredun and immediately a female demon forced her way through the fabric of reality.
Taalem snarled and charged forward, swinging his heavy hammer directly into the succubus’ skull, a satisfying squish confirming his kill.
“You will pay, Jaraxxus!” he cried. “You will pay for every one of the innocent that you and your kind have slaughtered!” he screamed. “FOR ARGUS!”
He leapt forward, slamming the mace down upon the Eredar’s shin, smiling savagely as the fel-hardened bone gave way to his crystalline hammer’s heavy head.
“Bah! Insignificant gnat!” Jaraxxus snarled, limping backwards. “You shall pay! INFERNO!”
Taalem looked up, knowing what to expect. Oddly though, he didn’t see any infernals in the sky.
“Wha-” he started, when suddenly he was thrown into the air as a green-colored infernal busted from the ground beneath him, forming a small volcano where it erupted. Taalem quickly rolled over, getting to his feet and sneering savagely at his new enemy. “By The Light, be purged!” he ordered, thrusting his hand forward. A small chip appeared on the demon’s chest.
Taalem wasted no time in charging forward at the demon, leaping up and bringing his hammer down on the chipped stone of the infernal. “FOR THE NAARU!” he screamed, the infernal shattering in his wake.
Jaraxxus frowned, holding his broken leg carefully. “No! This cannot happen!” the demon growled. “Die, traitor scum!” he roared, gnashing his teeth as he hurled another fireball at the draenei.
Taalem grit his teeth and charged through the fireball, unable to deflect it a second time. He screamed in pain and rage as the fire seared his skin and hair, but continued his charge. Finally, he reached his target, slamming his mace into the demon’s good leg and knocking the eredar off of its feet.
“By the Prophet, I sentence you, Jaraxxus, my brother, to death!” Taalem cried.
“Another will take my place!” Jaraxxus growled. “Your world is doomed…”
Taalem said nothing, merely grunting before bringing his hammer down at last upon the demon’s skull.
Taalem stood panting; breathing… covered in blood and gore and burned terribly.
Suddenly the crowd burst into applause. Taalem sighed, propping himself up on his hammer. The shaft was wet with blood, however, and his grip slipped, causing him to fall. He did not get up.

Really great! I never thought of something like a brother relationship with a boss. Good thinking! Though maybe you could be a little more descriptive.
But the Legion he commands!

Nicely written, I must say. It is always interesting to take a fragment of a universe one knows well, and show it in a new light, through a different medium. A little how Blizzard took the Warcraft universe we knew from the strategy game and made it in interactive in WoW.

The only finger I can put on it, is basically that the Argent Coliseum is presented as
a group
of heroes battling different encounters, to prove their worth, whereas this story presents it as Taalem single-handedly decimates the encounters - which is slightly unrealistic (even for WoW-standards).
Otherwise, I liked the way the real sayings were mixed in ... and the fact that it was a double-defeat.

Oh... right - my bad. Didn't actually notice the priest-part that well. My argument falls short in that case, hehe :)

I liked that. Gonna remember it every time I do that fight now.

Great story, and much more dramatic than the actual fight, where Incinerate Flesh on a priest is a mild inconvenience, at best.

Gotta stick to Lore.
May not hurt in game but in Lore, you're screwed :P
The lore and the game are connected, though. Incinerate Flesh isn't instant death; hell, even the Paladin in this story could have paused for a couple of seconds to drop a Holy Light or two on the priest, and she would have been fine. :)
But that would have ruined the dramatic tension, so I understand why she had to die.

From a lore standpoint, incinerate flesh as well as other boss abilities are actually weaker, I think.
Some might be weaker, but with flame covering your body, especially demonic flames, your screwed either way.

Some might be weaker, but with flame covering your body, especially demonic flames, your screwed either way.Indeed. In addition, I was more inspired by the boss's quote ("Flesh from bone!"), which made me think of actual flaying of flesh from bone, than the name and effect of the spell.
Either way, I think it's within reason to believe that he could do that if he wanted. He is an Eredar Lord of the Trifling Gnome, after all.

Dramatic tension makes for a much better explanation than lore; as already stated, despite Jaraxxus' cries, the spell sets you on fire, rather than instantly stripping the flesh from your bones. The spell's nature is also that the damage doesn't happen immediately; you're fine for a few seconds, but unless you have been imbued with the holy light, so to speak (i.e. overhealed enough to meet the requirement) you burst into flames and explode, possibly killing anyone near you.
Thus, from a lore perspective, our brave Paladin would have been toasted along with the Priest. Of course, from a lore perspective the Priest would have had enough time to call upon the light to save herself (i.e. casting Greater Heal a couple of times, or Penance, if she walked the path of Discipline), or the Paladin could have saved her (or the Druid/Shaman who was doubtlessly in the arena with them, off-screen).
But as a writer, I believe that dramatic tension is king, especially when the lore being glossed over is fairly minor (the effect of a single spell from a boss with no real metaplot significance). When asked how fast the starships in Babylon 5 could travel, J. Michael Straczinsky famously replied that they travel "...at the speed of plot".
Lore-wise, if an eredar could simply cast a spell that strips the flesh off of people and kills them instantly, he would:
1. never stop casting it.
2. certainly would not be defeated by a Paladin less than half his size.
Game-wise, this isn't the case for obvious reasons.
Story-wise, sacrificing the priest gave the story a sense of urgency, and established the high stakes of the situation: when Jaraxxus killed the gnome, it was kind of funny. When he killed the Paladin's little buddy, it got
personal
