"It does not appear we have a choice," Vashadya reminded Kitanga, struggling to come up with an alternative, "we can but hope for a familiar face to take them in."

Crack
.
Thin as a hair, the fracture ran down the length of the Copper King's tinted sunglasses. With a crash like a shattering mirror the glasses fell to pieces. Eyes like a pair of golden disks suddenly flashed and glowed with a burning light in the dragon's sockets, boring down on Snowmane.
"
No.
"
Words electrifying the air with temporal magic, the dragon's robes flew back like soaring wings. A sudden sensation of motion occurred, but only as they both jerked to a halt. "We have arrived," the dragon intoned, reaching up and indicating. Above them was a great snarl of thread, all spawning from a single point and crawling along each other and others like a cancer. As they both drifted about this, the threads seemed to fade into each other showing a desert and many people assembled.
They halted once more. Hands thrust before him, palms upturned as though beseeching the threads which surrounded them, the man towered over Snowmane and the sundial she held. Like a snake the thread of Snowmane's fate unwound itself from the dragon's finger and curled into a ball between his hands. With sharp, deft gestures the dragon's fingers began to move as though he were directing an orchestra, and the thin thread he had plucked from the sundial shot into a mass of thread directly over them, where the snarl was worst. There it began to mass upon itself. Crossing and tying, the threads built upon each other into a single great knot.
As it did so, one of those threads which formed the snarl began to grow tenser, more refined as it uncurled itself from its limpid fellows.
The dragon's voice boomed and whispered in the electrified air, his monotone never changing, only the volume lending the perception it was.
"As it has been written. The weave is maintained.
Your place is assured in the fate of this world.
"
With a final curl the last of the spare thread had wound itself about the knot. Yet if one were paying attention, the threads which it entwined sagged the merest fraction. The dragon's pupil-less eyes remained fixed upon the worgen, looking upon the thin thread coming from Snowmane's chest where it then rose into the knot.
"One cannot be cut off from the past. One carries it always.
The future is written.
But ware," the dragon leaned forward, his skin now carrying a metallic tint, Snowmane's face reflected in the golden disks of his eyes, "
Ware those who would rewrite it all.
" Power crackled all around them. It crystallized, forming something like sand whcih glimmered and sparked form the magic like atoms charged.

Snowmane stared, her fur standing on end as she stood, completely overwhelmed. "Okay, wow, holy $%^&..." she stuttered, looking back at the dragon. "Okay, is it over now? Any more surprises I should know about?"

Hands who showed the beginnings of claws grabbed Snowmane by the head. The dragon forced her with unnatural strength to look once more into the dial.
It looked back.
"
The future is never determined.
Nor is past. Only the present.
One day you will be called on for a favour
."
An eye of glass and gold stared out of the image at the worgen. Simply a single, solitary eye. Cracks began to form, splaying from the pupil in a spider's web as a fire of silver tipped darkness burned about it. Ethereal arms of shadow and quicksilver reached from the mirror, grasping at Snowmane's fur.
The dragon had by now released her head. His hands were once more occupied with the thread, adjusting and righting it with precise gestures so it did not intersect those it was not meant to. His eyes however, still glwoing with that timeless glow, remained affixed. The sand that had formerly surrounded them had too began to coalesce, forming glass eyes that hovered about the worgen in their midst, staring, waiting.
"
A favour, which depending on your answer, will decide the fate of not only this world, but countless others. A reality
. There are those who know
how to watch
. Watch the possibilities, and adjust them to achieve the desired end."
They were moving again. A sound came from somewhere ahead. A sound of pistons, of force, and of blades being drawn and withdrawn.

Snowmane instinctively recoiled from the mirror, feeling like she was in some kind of nightmare. Her breath was growing rapid, and her heart was pounding in her chest.
"Are we... Are we almost done?" she mumbled, staring at the huge, splintered eye in the sundial, and then at the floating eyes surrounding her. "I don't like this..."

The dragon lowered his arms.
"Yes."
With sudden force the arms grasping Snowmane wrenched the worgen forward and into the depths of the sun dial.
"You are done."
Then she was back in the three sided chamber, as though she had never left. The sundial before her, no more than a piece of stone and steel. In the corner Varyn looked at Mordecai as though wondering if something was supposed to happen. And last, the Copper King stood before her once more, his glasses whole, peering through them lethargically at the worgen.

Snowmane, wide-eyed, immediately collapsed to all-fours, breathing heavily. She simply stared at the ground for several seconds, trying to wrap her head around what had just happened, before finally pushing herself back to her feet. She wiped her sopping brow and promptly took out her flask and drained what was left.
