Leveling a pally for the first time and only up to level 27. Ive been reading alot that Ret PVE dps is subpar and Ret PVP is inadvisable.
Now there are also people saying you cannot/should not PVP a DK in Blood but I do that and have yet to get beat 1 on 1 by anything. So maybe Ret isnt that bad if used by the right person.
Is there anyone that is actually somewhat successful in PVE and PVP Retadining? And if they do just suck does anyone know is Blizzard has plans to unnerf them or are they just going to do like they have always done and nerf every other class instead?

If you go onto the general forums, there are comments made by ghostcrawler on a post there. It seems clear ret is going to get buffed, looks like though mastery as well as a few other things.
Other classes are going to get nerfed also it looks like, but some are also getting buffed, as blizzard is trying to get to class balance (an act that is very hard to achieve).
From what I have seen, ret is a joke in PvP - The only time I have ever had an issue was when they competely suprised me in a BG, stunned me, poped wings, and blew me up in about 4 hits and no one peeled him off of me.
Right now ret is stupidly easy to control and their damage is all based on procs - that if they line up they are beast, but with offensive dispells they way they are (ghostcrawler talked about nerfing them) they are easy to spam off of you, making you worthless.
Edit: Just a word of advise, stay with the class you love to play, and the spec (though good times and the bad). When it comes the time that blizzard buffs you - and they will at some point, you won't be rusty and probably would be one of the best of that class and spec on your realm. Too many people follow the OP spec or class of the week, and never truely become good at any of them.

Thanks.
And I am trying to find the class i love still. Paladin, Shamen and Lock are the only three 3 classes I have yet to get to 80 (only 1 85). Im not trying to play with whats toughest atm. I actually do like being the underdog most of the time and pulling off wins. Just trying to plan ahead.
I love playing my DK and I am always called upon by my friends to level the playing field. But I see so many people not playing paladins right. They all seem to JUST want to melt face. And I almost never see them helping teammates. I was just wondering if maybe all the NonSkilled Retadins from WotLK cant adapt to the change in CATA because you actually need skill to play. Just a theory. I cant see how a ret pally can get kited around if I hardly get kited to death as a Blood DK. Its just beyond me.

Those people are in every class. Paladins are a utility class, more so than other classes. We tend to carry more things than other classes that can help people, the bad players don't take advantage of this, the good ones do.
You will know you are playing to character to its best potential when you start getting "thank you" and "I love you" comments in pug BGs.

Only way out of magic slows for a ret paladin is Hand of Freedom, which can is popular to dispell or spell steal. After that, you are a sitting target. We have no ways out of stuns. Only way out of fear is to use hand of Sacrifice on a player you think will get hit during your fear. These are popular moves that classes use to help them kite. We have no way out of most of these. We also have to slows to really assist us. Unless you call Seal of Justice, a seal that lowers your damage, a slow.
DKs can become immune to stuns, have chains of ice, a AoE slow. They also have an antimagic shell and a pet that can annoy people and help close distance with its stun. Dks have far more abilities to help them beat kiters than a ret pally does (funny that a dk is a dead pally basiclly, yet a dk is far superior currently).

You can cleanse slows off of yourself. We don't have a slow, but we do have a sprint, which DKs don't have.
I think that sprint needs a buff though. It's not a gap closer unless it's enough to close gaps.

Only holy paladins can cleanse magic effects.

I personally would prefer some survivability buffs for the ret paladin, i have noticed that my mail using and leather using classes have no trouble with survival unless i am insane to take on 5 mobs and i can possibly die if they are lucky with crits and i am unlucky to not get any.
But when it comes to my pally, i seem to have issues not losing health incredibly fast, i mean REALLY fast, faster then i would expect a plate user to lose health, i am not saying they should be super strong and super tough, i just mean if a leather or mail user has practicually no issues fighting the same mobs, while the paladin however almost or does indeed die from a 2v1, so fast like its 5v1.
Maybe i am doing something wrong, i do not know, all i tend to get in replies on the battle.net forums is 'learn to play noob' but nothing grown up or helpful at all.
It was the 20%-40% chance for more abilities to generate holypower that saved me, some of the time, but now its only 15% max, i am so giving up on my pally unless they do buff the survivability or something like that.
