I'm not from the US, why would I? Most people outside the US probably don't even know what it is, and why should they?

That seemed fairly vitriolic.

Agreed.
OT: I watched it, mainly for the commercials, but I did enjoy the game.

Since I've enjoyed this thread as far back as I've participated in it I'd rather the questions stay relevant to the entire user base here, not just a specific large minority of it.

Or you could have said no like adamsm did, since the question was whether you watched it or not.

280 questions in, it's getting hard to come up with something new every day. Feel free to e-mail me suggestions as others have before.
Relationship questions leave out people not in one. Religious questions leave out people who are not religious. Political questions leave out people who don't follow politics. Questions about work leave out the unemployed. Questions about kids leave out those who have no interest in them. Various food and drink related questions can not apply to the whole user base as well. Not every question will be something you relate to. Feel free to not get involved with the questions you don't like, but there have been and will be questions that not everyone relates too, and most people are able to handle that without getting indignant.
There are some people who are very excited about said game and will want to discuss it. Personally, I'm not one of them. Didn't watch it, don't know who is playing, don't care. But there are people who do, and today's question was for them. Alternately, someone not from the US might take the opportunity to ask them what the big deal is that everyone treats this game as a holiday, and compare it with how sports are treated where they are from.(##RESPBREAK##)8##DELIM##ElhonnaDS##DELIM##

In fairness, the Super-Bowl is one of those non-global significant events that a large part of the sporting-friendly global community will pay attention to. Similarly, the English Premier League, the Commonwealth Games, the Tour de France, the F1 championship, and any World Cup events, as evidenced by all the non-US people here who are also responding positively or negatively.
I didn't watch it, but only because I was working at a client's office today. Ordinarily, we'd have it on the big TV in our office here in Sydney, Australia.

Comments like this make me chuckle; if you are in a first world country, unless you live in an Amish like settlement, you more then likely know full well what the Super Bowl is, if only because it's when all of the new commercials come out.

Not a big fan of that particular sport, so nah. I never miss the FIFA championship, but that's about the only sports event I watch.
My dad is a huge fan of the superbowl though, and when they had that powershortage right in the act they do in the middle of the game, my dad yelled out jokingly: "GOD DAMN YOU CHAVEZ!"*
(*)Explanation for those who're not Venezuelans: Ever since Chavez nationalized the one and only power company in the country, the electric service has gone to hell, and as a consequence, we have frequent, scheduled power shortages over here that last up to 4 hours. There's hardly any week were we don't have at least 3 of these.
So, my dad was basically joking "dammit chavez, you're not just happy to cut the power here, you had to cut the power on the super bowl too?"
It made me chuckle :P (of course, non-venezuelans would probably not get the joke as much)

Indeed. Considering all the publicity it gets, its impossible to not know what the super bowl is, even if you don't like it. I live in a second-world country (bordering on third world thanks to our government) and I'm not a big follower of sports, and I know fully well what the Super Bowl is.
Also, its a little odd to think that only US folks would like American Football, I mean, Sumo is a really cool sport and extremely popular in Japan, and while fans of that sport are mostly japanese, that doesn't mean not a single non-japanese Sumo fan exists in the world.
Soccer (known in latin america as Futbol) isn't very popular in the US, and yet most US folks know what the FIFA Cup is. My dad is venezuelan like me, and he loves American Football.

Wink wink, nudge nudge?
Oh, didn't watch it. Found out who was playing, who won, who sang and about the power outage from facebook though (ironically, from someone complaining about how he learnt all this stuff from his facebook feed).

I turned the TV on, watched about 5 minutes, then watched Lois and Clark instead and napped. Wasn't feeling good at all yesterday and slept the majority of it.
