Leveling 85-90

I leveled my worgen druid to 85 in Cata and put him on hold. I am now getting around to hitting 90.
My friend recently leveled as cat in Mists and said it was slow. That concerns me, because I thought leveling my rogue was slow compared to my casters (warlock and shaman).
I'm wondering if cat or moonkin is the best leveling spec. I have never played moonkin, but I'm not afraid to try.
So with the interest of leveling fast (not max raid/dungeon DPS) with few difficulties/corpse runs, would feral cat or moonkin be best?
Thanks!

I would strongly suggest you to go feral tank. This has at least 2 good advantages:
1) Insta random dungeon que.
2) Great ability to AoE pull quest mobs.
At any point you can spec feral cat if you dislike tanking since gear is absolutely the same, except trinkets.
Good luck!

That is a very good point about the dungeon queue. However, I tend to not run dungeons as I level. I take it tanks are in higher demand in Mists? It seemed healers were more in demand in Cataclysm, at least from what I recall.
As for the gear, I suppose tree/moonkin and cat/bear are indeed specs that go together well!

Whenever I play, it seems there is a Call to Arms for Tanks... sometimes even a healer, but LFD always seems to be lacking Tanks...

So, you already do have level 90 characters? You know, there are things you can get to make your Druid levelling experience a breeze. Or, well, one big thing.
This. Get this.
It's like the god mode cheat for the Druid class. You can not describe anything as "slow" when you wield that. At 85, everything you touch explodes, and at 90 it is still a decent pre-raiding weapon.
My Druid was the second char I got to 90, after my Monk. I levelled as a guardian, and I would recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone. Bear druids, when levelling, have terrific survivability and generate very satisfying DPS. A quest needs you to kill 12 mobs? Just run around until there are 12 attacking you, and then kill them all at once. Boom, done. Any rare mob you meet is breakfast for you. Rare mobs, with rested exp, are worth half a million EXP. Dungeon queues are, naturally, instant.
Also if minimizing corpse runs is something you care about, I believe that between levels 85 and 90, outside of dungeons, I died less than 10 times. And the only deaths I usually get are to fall damage anyway.

I've levelled 2x Cat druids to 90 (Horde & Alliance separate servers) & can't say it was slow.
I did start to level the 2nd as Moonkin but found it noticeably slower & switched it to feral. Cat druid still has swipe for multiple mobs - high energy cost but pop tiger's fury when low. Use instant Healing Touch when Predatory Swiftness procs - no downtime to eat/drink & shapeshift to bear if you've pulled too many & things are getting hairy (no Bear/Cat pun intended).
I'm not a dungeon runner particularly at 85-90. I usually do a random here & there to get some of the dungeon quests in, so just queue as Feral - Slow queues, but as I'm questing anyway I don't care about that.

I can't speak to leveling as a chicken or another class, but I started leveling 85-90 as feral, but switched to guardian about 87 or so. Like Thror and others said, it made the kill x amount of things so much easier, just pull everything you can see and kill them with your mangle, thrash and swipe spam. I very rarely died as either feral or guardian, so you don't have to worry about that slowing you down.

It isn't as fantastic as that Archaeology spear linked above, but there's a similarly powerful weapon for fledgling caster druids:
Dissector's Staff of Mutation
. The best (and worst) part? You can just find it out on a rock in the Dread Wastes. After a couple of days of hunting it, I finally got one of my very own. Slapped a
Jade Spirit
on it and mailed it to my level 86 druid, who proceeded to heal the bejeesus out of some Dungeon Finder groups.
Although Balance is slower as folks have pointed out, I don't enjoy melee so I'm sticking to my
laser-chicken
guns. Spamming Wrath and Moonfire, and liberal use of Ursol's Vortex or Mass Entanglement, makes questing and pulling large groups a lot of fun.
