I have been browsing items to see what I can get for my Shamy & DK... a lot if the time I mouseover an item... looks GREAT, open it... "No longer available to players" is there a setting I missed so I can filter out the junk like this?
Hammer of the Twisting Nether
,
Totem of Flowing Water
to name but two of these items. I makes browsing the weapons/items on the site very difficult and frustrating...
LoL... and as I was typing this I found it. However my question is still "Why are they shown by default?"
Instead the "No longer available to players" option should only be a "off" switch. I reference this site quite often and if I have to apply the filter the whole time it will get tedious.
I don't know how the queries are structured, but I am sure that the default flag can be set, shouldn't be too hard.
( Before I get a lot of "how would you know?" flames, I am a Web Developer I have a very good idea of how these things work. )
Just a mention, not saying "Implement or I will leave". Would make things easier, esp for new users.
Anyways, besides this the site has saved me an insane amount of time and gold. Thanx!

Yes... New users won't be looking for the filter list... I didn't start using it till recently, when I started filtering out items with "where stat < xx" and as I stated, I did find it. Was just suggesting that it should be a standard filter. :)

In other words you want it to default to something like
this
.
In which case I agree.

I've been saying this for months, however since there is technically already a way to achieve this (though not by default) it is lower priority.

Understandable. As I said, it is not a deal breaker, just a mention. If the search had delivered a result I would have just added my post to that. This is the kind of site that all MMO's need IMO. I am not trying to start a flame war, nor is this a hate post...
Don't really care where it is on the priority list... just as long as it is. hehe.
Anyways, later.

Yeah, it won't be too difficult to work in anyway at some point, since all of the items flagged 'not available to players' and 'no longer available to players' are listed manually.

I'm wondering, would this change affect the regular search if implemented? Because it would be a bit annoying to search for an item you know of (without any filters) and not be able to find it. If this would be the case, maybe they could be shown at the bottom of the search results, or simply a button:
"Click this to include items no longer available to players."
The way I see it, it's best to include as much as possible when searching,
then
filter out the extras on a second search if necessary.

Well, my guess would be that if an item is directly searched for it would come up in results but if it was a filtered search then items that are no longer available would not show up in the listview unless toggled on somehow. I wouldn't want to waste screen space on having a checkbox specifically for what we'll call 'unavailable' items (which would include those that were never available and those that are no longer available), so you'd just have to add a filter option to show hidden items (yes/no). So it would just be a case of a filtered search versus a regular search query, and have it apply the different options to each.
