Am I the only one that wants a PvE server?

The simple solution obviously is to summon
The Cleaner
when ever a civilian is killed ;)
Personally, I've felt that quest givers should be PVE flagged by default (with the exception of the city bosses for obvious reasons). It's not like they take skill to kill and killing them can't provide any sort of achievement. Most of the time it's just people being jerks.
I'd love for Blizzard to bring back the concept of dishonourable kills, somehow - perhaps tied in with the new ranked battlegrounds or PVE currency points.

My proposed solution for guards:
When guards respawn, they have a buff, called something like "Enraged Guardian", which is equivalent to about a 5-10 level increase.
If they die with it on, they come back with two stacks.
By five-six stacks, you'd be looking at raid trash equivalents, and by seven or eight, it would be impractical to kill them.
Problem solves itself; short fights are allowed, long-term farming goes away.

I play on a PvE server, and the best time I ever had was a good-old hold out with a bunch of us horde camping Lion's Pride Inn in goldshire. We used the upstairs for heals, the kitchem for summons, and we held the door quite effectively against quite a group of eighties.
We left the lobies alone, as most of us were mid 70's to 80. And we tried not to kill too many NPC that weren't guards. And this is just something that never happens on PvP severs. It was more fun than any city or instance raid I've ever done.
What your suggesting as "ganking" and "annoying" or a "waste of time," some people consider quite fun.

So, why should one player be allowed to force another player how to play the game or do something they don't want to do?
Person A likes questing in Ashenvale, he likes the stories and the area.
Person B likes to kill NPCs in Ashenvale over and over and over again.
Why should Person B be allowed to dictate where Person A can quest and play the game, when both people pay $15/a month to play? What stops person B from following Person A to all the quest hubs he tries to go someplace else to and going "denied", effectively stopping Person A from being able to do anything except stand around and pick their nose?
Hypothetically, wouldn't make B play the way A wants to play would be some kind of dictatorship as well?

I remember the old days...we would have 40-50 from each side fighting in southshore at towers..... lvl 55-60's would come fying in from all over. The lag was unbearbale but omg the carnage was fun.But that was evenly matched players on both sides trying to whack the hell out of each other..it was epic.
I dont get killing quest givers and flight masters...i dont see the purpose other than to just be a pain in the arse. If you want your PVP jollies on a PVE server than there are more than enough choices form AV battlegrounds on up. You can prove your skill against players of basically the same skill levels and actually end up gaining honor and valuable gear.
Leave the lower level players alone....let them get higher...and then when they actually join the BG you can kill them as much as you want....
But there are only so many BGs, while the outside world offers enless veriety. I love dueling inside an Inn or the Brill town hall.

Not when there's a server that allows B to play the way B wants to
and
servers that let A play the way A wants too without B being able to interfere.
Introducing Sanctuary-style (where all areas are treated like Shattrath minus capital cities and Wintergrasp) servers would harm no one and benefit tons of people.
But then you get childish sociopaths like elbrian who consider it some sort of egregious sin against him to even suggest it or something.

I agree with you Atik. It is fun when it happens, except for when it happens all the time...
It brings some variety into your boring leveling experience..
Sometimes it's nice for roleplaying too..
I can see the problem if they keep killing your questgivers, but once / twice is okay IMO.

To the OP: You are not alone. I played on pvp servers since release until summer 2009. I was a bit iffy about transferring to a pve server because all I ever heard of them was "carebearing" and all that. But I have to say I have actually not regretted transferring to a pve server at all. It lets me have a bit more control over my gameplay. When I just want to quest/level I can, if I want to farm in peace I can, if I want to pvp I just queue for any battleground. I find that the carebear myth is just that: almost everyone I know on my new server enjoys pvp.

That's right, there is no progression, but maybe I wasn't clear with that part - it helps the immersion. When I can get 8, 9, 10 of my friends/guildies together and attack Stormwind, I can really feel that there's a
war
going on, because there
is
. Alliance will gather and attack, and keep gathering until they can overpower us, and we can usually warlock-port in some more people we recruited from the guild. It really feels like we're soldiers who are part of a larger war between the Alliance and the Horde.
When I kill an NPC that helps your side, I can imagine the fuss it would make - killing auctioneers shuts down your local economy, killing the village head causes chaos, killing flight masters halts transportation. And while PvP may not be as measurable as PvE (eg DPS meters) it still feels epic to test out how many guards I can kill alone, or how long I can trash auberdine for example, until another 80 or two goes to defend their faction.
I agree. When all of us installed this game we chose our SIDE.
Why would I attack Goldshire?
BECAUSE I DONT LIKE YOU.
Why would I kill the lvl35 thats flagged for PVP?
FLAGGED AT 35 = IDIOT
There are PVP players and PVP guilds on PVE servers. Many times we will destroy a town to DRAW OTHER 80s OUT. I could care less if you cant fly or quest to be honest. When the alliance attack us, we respond. When we attack you, we expect, and usually get, a response. Thats what we want.
BGs and Arenas dont change. You can only capture so many flags or assault WG so many times, before it gets boring. Making the alliance miserable, and drawing out 80s who want to fight, make the game more fun.
World PVP FTW!

I personally would love a true PvE server. I don't like PvP - mostly because I suck at it - and would prefer to steer clear of the effects of it when possible. I don't have an 80 to log into if someone is camping the spot I'm trying to level at. That's right, I do not yet have an 80 character. Shocking, I know, that there is somebody left in the world who is still trying to get their uber, but there it is.
I personally don't give a rats patootie about the Horde. I play WoW because I like the other aspects of the game. If there were another game out there with the positives of WoW but without the PvP I'd jump on it. Unfortunately, there isn't. It would be nice if Blizzard would create a couple of servers for those of us who really aren't interested in toppling the horde etc. Why should I care about killing a couple of players in what is at final analysis an un-winnable and un-losable battle?
It has been my experience (as a middle aged woman who played D&D when it first came out) that many people use fantasy-based games to express their frustration over the powerlessness in their own lives. People with menial, thankless jobs who will never wield any real life power, angry teenagers, and others who just don't 'cut it' in modern society are the ones who act like sociopaths in games like WoW. It allows them to work through their frustrations without picking up a gun and shooting up a Burger King. Unfortunately, the rest of us suffer when these people (and not all people in those categories act like this, though many do) set out to be as nasty as they can.
So, yes, I would love a true PvE server where I can play "my" game without having to contend with idiots. Will it happen? Not likely.

I don't like you either! I have the death sentence in twelve systems!

Isn't that the idiot from the bar in Star Wars?

Alright, now to make an actual contributing post.
I would love, very much, for there to be a sanctuary server. That pretty much sums that up quite well.
On the other hand...
I would also like there to be a War server. Open PvP absolutely anywhere, as realistic as a PvP realm can get. However, I think there should be a bit of a rule change with those servers. Based on what somebody said earlier about patrols, I think they should exist because of killing. Basically, double the level difference between the two targets is the chance of a patrol spawning in response to the attacks.
Level 80 ganks a level 20 (NPC or Player)? Well, 60 (80-20) x2 is 100% chance, a patrol spawns in the nearest town and heads in the direction of the murder. Patrols last about an hour, spreading out from the point of death to hunt the killer. The more murders, the more chances for patrols, the more get spawned and hunt. ALL existing patrols would get another hour of up-time for each murder in the zone, so it would eventually get very very hard for people to be sneaking around. This would be especially true since more high level guards would be spawned in cities.
Since it's a War server, make NPC's like these guards actually drop special PvP oriented loot, grant honor, or something. Give an excuse for the server to have a real all-out war as people are constantly trashing each others areas to spawn these guards and fight them. Even offer faction rewards if you can wipe out entire towns or maps. Of course guards and NPC's would need buffing to make this work but...could be fun.
This would give people who despise PvP in any way shape or form their Sanctuary server, and would give people who crave PvP even more than the regular PvP servers something to sink their teeth into.
This whole post was supposed to be an edit to my previous one...oops >>

It is getting worse by the day...they have daily quests just to kill 20 players of the other factions.......and they now travel in groups, since the latest fix blizzard did nothing to make the PVP less a pain for those who want to just play the game...do dungeons, and raid.
They are adding to a world that is already divided enough....there are REAL people behind the players character. Well for me an several of my friends who truly love the game are quitting..we will not be a part of something that breeds hate in our young adults.
What does "anything goes" do for a world already going to hell, will that make the mind of the younger folks better humans in the real world? I think a big fat no....
