Shadow War Bugs in Diablo Immortal

This week was the first instances of the Shadow War, an event for members of the Shadows faction to practice tactics for the Rite of Exile. The events, which happen on Thursdays and Saturdays, mimic the structure of the Challenge of the Immortal. In a normal Cycle of Strife, the Challenge of the Immortal will happen if the Shadows win more than half the battles of the Rite of Exile.
In the Challenge of the Immortal, Dark Clans face off against one another in a special PvEvP encounter, facing a raid-boss-buffed version of The Immortal that players fought in the introductory questline. With a maximum of 30 players per side in the main battle and two support battles, up to 90 clan members can participate the Shadow War at a time.
The part of The Immortal is played by the Dark Clan Leader for each side, with your Dark Clan racing to kill your opponent's Immortal, before the opposing Dark Clan defeats yours. Fighting in brackets across two days, the winners of Thursday's matches will face off against each other again on Saturday to determine first an second place, while the losing teams fight against each other for third, with a weekly ranking of the top 10 Dark Clans determined from there.
This battle is a lot of fun... if you don't run into one of the many problems and bugs that have been reported. If you want to read more about the event, check out our complete guide. Now, on to the bugs.
Shadow Faction Overview in Diablo Immortal
Shadow War Bugs
It's important to keep in mind that the Shadow War was added to the game after the last round of Beta closed, so this was not tested by players before launch.
Wait... We Won!
There have been several reports from Dark Clans on the forums that they actually won all their fights by dominating percentages, but for some unknown reason, the credit for the win was given to the opposing team. This has affected several different servers, so it doesn't seem to be a local issue.
The Miraculous Heal
Several other players have reported that they've had their opponent's Immortal down to a sliver of health, and suddenly that Immortal heals to full health. The timing of this is so specific on so many different reports that this doesn't sound like some kind of game mechanic or equipment issue at work. It sounds much more like a phenomenon that most video game players are familiar with: the unexpected boss reset.

No Leader, No Working Immortal
This happened in our own Dark Clan. Our Clan Leader was not able to attend Saturday's Shadow War, but we had several officers at the event. We outnumbered the opposing clan 2:1. However, we lost, because our Immortal was created as an NPC that just stood there and allowed itself to get beaten to death by the opposing clan without resisting.
In fact, leading into the early stages of the fight while we were just getting formed, we noticed that where our Immortal's portrait should be, there was just an empty frame. Our opponent's Dark Clan Leader appeared, but there was no one on our side:
We noticed this early and were speculating on whether they'd give us an NPC Immortal or if they'd convert one of the officers present into the Immortal. We got an NPC Immortal, but it wasn't controllable by any of us -- and it just stood there doing absolutely nothing. Even though we had superior numbers, the opposing Dark Clan beat us by defeating our Immortal first because they were fighting a mannequin.
Lesson learned: if our Dark Clan Leader has to be away, we need to switch leadership to someone who is planning to attend. But the system should have a Plan B, such as turning an attending officer into The Immortal instead. Emergencies come up, people can't get connected -- there are a lot of reasons why someone who had planned to attend an event can't follow through. The whole clan should not be punished for it.
Unlike the other bugs, at least you can do something about this one until it gets fixed.
Immortals and Item Set Bonuses
Players have also noted that some equipment bonuses worn by the Dark Clan leaders are affecting the already souped-up raid boss abilities given to them as The Immortal.
As an example, one Reddit post recounted that the opposing Dark Clan Leader/Immortal was wearing 4 out of 6 set pieces from the
범접할 수 없는 협잡꾼
set. The 2- and 4-set properties are as follows:
2 Set Items Equipped:
Each time you take damage, you have a 20% chance to gain a shield that absorbs damage equal to 13% of your maximum Life. Cannot occur more often than once every 9 seconds.
4 Set Items Equipped:
Shield's damage absorption increased to 33% of your maximum Life, and you can move unhindered through enemies while this shield is active.
As reported by the Redditor, this version of The Immortal became untouchable indeed -- with the super-buffed Life already given to the leader through The Immortal raid mob buff, their Dark Clan could barely dent him.
Legendary Items aren't a concern. Since most Legendary Items modify class specific abilities, they don't really matter to The Immortal. However, Set bonuses in particular are meant to apply to a wide variety of classes and specs. If set bonuses are allowed to apply to The Immortal, with all their buffs, the key to winning this battle may not come down to clan effort, but about whose Dark Clan Leader has the best and most powerful set items.
범접할 수 없는 협잡꾼
in particular seems tailor made for this task.
Are Legendary Gems also playing a role? We don't know the answer to this, but it's clear set item bonuses are working together with The Immortal power.
Blizzard needs to look at the interactions of player equipment with The Immortal buffs given to them for the Shadow War. At what point is it strategic, and at what point is it simply going to make the battle impossible to win, even for the strongest opponents? If the shielding buff in particular is allowed to stand as something that works with The Immortal in the Shadow War (or even in the real Challenge of the Immortal), pretty much any Dark Clan Leader is going to have to be wearing that even to be considered a viable Dark Clan Leader. If you had two such unkillable Immortals in one Shadow War, that could redefine the endless sloggy raid fight.
