Blizzard has released new video footage of Diablo IV! The videos show many different elements of the game including character creation, combat gameplay of all three classes available in the recent Press Preview test build, and a tour around Kyovashad, main city hub of the Fractured Peaks zone.
Diablo IV First Impressions
Unlike all other Diablo games, Diablo IV character creation offered many customization options. In the PR Preview build, we were also able to choose many more different faces compared to the videos shown below. There are options for jewelry, tattoos, facial structure, and much more.
Barbarian Character Creation
Sorcerer Character Creation
Diablo IV's Dungeons and events in a group were a lot of fun for multiple reasons. The combat pacing felt good and rewarding, and you were able to combo abilities even at Level 25. Monster difficulty on World Tier II felt like a light challenge, with some champion monsters being a bit tougher depending on monster affixes like Fear or Vampiric. Be aware that this footage provided by Blizzard shows Level 40 gameplay, which is not very different from what we've experienced. Each of the class videos show multiple abilities and skills, but be aware that there are many different ways to build your character, so no one video can give a comprehensive picture of all the possibilities.
Below is some Barbarian Gameplay. You can see primary abilities in action, plus Battle Trance and Berserk. It's classic Barbarian mayhem.
Barbarian Dungeon Gameplay
Below is a Rogue specced largely into melee but including a little crossbow action. Stutter Step and Energy Regeneration effects are also triggered. We love the flexibility of this class so far.
Rogue Dungeon Gameplay
Below is a slightly different Rogue build, with a little more ranged focus. You also get to see a new mechanic, Execution, which gives you a small chance to kill an enemy outright.
Rogue Event Gameplay
And, finally, a classic Frost Sorc build. You can see combination casts making use of chills and vulnerability, the strong crowd control of the spec, and the beloved Frozen Orb. While Fire and Shock are also in game, we didn't get footage of those in action.
Sorcerer Stronghold Gameplay
The city of Kyovashad, main city hub of the Fractured Peaks zone, felt like a hopeless place. With only a handful of citizens and an asylum as one of the major points of interest, it perfectly reflects the dark tone of Diablo IV. Running through the city felt good, and most NPCs were located in the city center and easy to reach. One great detail we loved was the dynamic switch between weather effects as soon as you entered a building - effects like these felt very immersive and RPG-like.

Prologue Scenes
Watch out, soft spoilers ahead!
Diablo IV's prologue hits the first note of the game's dark and cruel storyline. Starting out in a dark cave, our character gets thrown into the story pretty much immediately. We don't want to spoil the story even inside this spoiler tag - but we can promise that both fans of darkness and the light will get their fair share of stellar story-telling.

Without surprise, Activision-Blizzard is a decade late when it comes to customization. Really disappointed about it, hope they will add more through time.
But that's something shared accross every Activision-Blizzard IP. They never understood how meaningful it is to the player to be able to fully and deeply customize their character(s). I really chuckles when I read they want a cosmetic-only shop. They want to make a monetization system based on something they can't even begin to grasp the very concept of.
Customisation in diablo games is the biggest waste of dev times. They should have given 3 presets and been done with it. You will never see all this specific bs from up high, as well as through all the armour. I hope they refrain from wasting precious time om such useless features in the future.
They're only 'useless' if, for example, when you 'inspect' other people's stuff, you just see the general skins the game throw at first (like in DI). In DI you customize the character, starting with the presets, but your portrait picture is the same as the preset, not the final one, plus, there's no option to hide, for example, helms.
In WoW you have tons of customization options, not only on the characters but also their garments, and recently you don't even waste 1 gold of your in game money for it. And you play with camera 'away' from your and other's characters. It's the inspection system that makes you 'see' others mostly, but in there you can approach your camera to see others too. In diablo games maybe they should rework a bit more the inspection UI too.

I'm honestly curious, why do you care about it in a game like this?
Character identity. In previous games we played classes, if you and a friend both played a barbarian the most you could do is pick a gender. That's fine in of itself I'm not creating a story I'm playing the barbarian's story. Diablo 4 gave me the impression that we'd be making characters look distinct as to make them more personal, though watching a quick youtube video I guess when they said, ' Diablo 4 has the most amount of customization compared to any of its predecessors' they really meant the armor appearance.
I, as the one testing the PR build for Wowhead, can tell you that we had like 6 or 7 different faces available per gender available in character customization.
Still feels a bit light, the narrowness of the other customizing tabs is also irksome. I'm not a programmer, so maybe it is difficult but jewelry should have subcategories, like eyebrow, ear(s), and nose. Four years and it looks like I'm gonna have to pick between freckles or eyeliner for my Necromancer in a time where other games would give you both and a little extra. Again I set myself up for this, they never promised a robust character creation. Just feels like a 2008 character creation menu in what looks like 2022 game.

The barbarian gameplay is embarrassing to watch. Agron literally showed us nothing but auto attacks. The fact this was posted as gameplay showcase is mind blowing. The rogue gameplay seemed to be the only person who has ever played a video game before. Unbelievable.
What? Why would you want a showcase video full of visual diarrhea, animation cancelling, and weaving?
It's.. a showcase. You're to look at the animations, environment, response times of the action abilities, etc. Can't see what the boss and mobs are doing if you're lighting it tf up.
But they're gameplay videos, not environment videos. And there are hardly any animations shown as the Barbarian is just spamming one skill.
