In Patch 1.1.0, Blizzard majorly buffed the loot drop rates for Nightmare Dungeons including a major buff to the completion rewards, an extra bonus to the Ancestral and Sacred item drop rate, and an overall chance for extra equipment. Let's take a look at all the changes.
Blizzard
Items
Drop Rate Adjustments:
Increased bonus to drop Ancestral and Sacred items in Nightmare Dungeons from +5% to +10%.
Removed a 20% chance to drop an extra equipment item from Elite monsters outside of Nightmare Dungeons and Helltide.
Increased chance to drop an extra equipment item from Elite monsters in Nightmare Dungeons and Helltide by +10%.
Nightmare Dungeons now have a 50% chance to drop a 2nd Legendary item upon completion.
Nightmare Dungeons now give 3 rare items upon completion, up from 1.
Patch 1.0.3 resolved a lot of the issues players had about
Nightmare Dungeons being lackluster for experience farming
, but additional concerns have arisen about loot acquisition compared to other endgame activities. The loot explosion when opening a Helltide chest or a Tree of Whispers cache often felt more impactful and easier to achieve then completing Nightmare Dungeons.
The above Diablo IV Patch 1.1.0 changes look to really address those concerns by making Nightmare Dungeons one of the most lucrative activities a player can be doing in Diablo IV.
At the higher World Tiers, the Ancestral and Sacred item chase becomes your primary source of upgrades. The higher acquisition rate in Nightmare Dungeons should make the endgame activity feel more lucrative.
The completion rewards for Nightmare Dungeons lacked the loot explosion feeling found in other activities or in previous incarnations of the Diablo franchise. An additional legendary drop roughly every other dungeon and the flat additional rare item drops should hopefully return more of that loot explosion feeling and help players find more upgrades for their time spent.
The shuffling of additional item drops into Helltides and Nightmare Dungeons and out of the outside world should help incentivize those activities for players.
As we head into Season 1, it remains to be seen if these changes are enough to elevate Nightmare Dungeons as the premier endgame activity or whether more is required. Be sure to checkout the
