Whether you're new to Sanctuary or a grizzled Diablo veteran, it's been a while since we've sunk time into Diablo - and that means some of us can use a refresher. Here are some tips and tricks for beginners and veterans alike to make sure your Diablo 4 experience is top notch!
Focus on the Main Quest
There's so much to do and see in Sanctuary it makes sense people would get distracted - even the most dedicated gamer can have something shiny catch their eye, and before you know it you have no idea how you got somewhere or why you're holding 12 of the same mace.
Focusing on the Main Campaign has a huge amount of value, though - especially since once you complete it, you unlock the Main Quest Skip (and other QOL improvements!) for your entire account, no matter the difficulty or character type. It takes roughly 35 hours to complete the Main Quest going at a decent pace, so settle in for some story and save yourself the trouble later!

Don't Worry About Missing a Legendary
With everything happening at once in the heat of battle, it's entirely possible you'll miss a Legendary dropping every once in a while - or, you'll be just about to pick one up as you're disconnected from the server. Don't fret - Blizzard has you covered.
Your Stash, ready and waiting for all those Legendaries you missed!
Any missed Legendaries or Uniques will find their way to your Stash automatically, saving you the heartache of missing out on epic loot. Check it often - you never know what might have dropped just off screen that you didn't notice.
Side Quests Are Totally Worth It
You may be thinking to yourself, "Didn't you just say to focus on the Main Quest?" Absolutely - but that doesn't mean you can't squeeze in some Side Quests along the way!
Instead of running around the zone you're in like a headless chicken, try to focus on picking specific Side Quests to complete that are near your other objectives. For instance, if you need to run a Dungeon for a certain Aspect, check to see if there's a Side Quest that can be done in or near that area (or if a Side Quest starts within the Dungeon itself). This way, you're basically getting free experience for something you've already done, and since that experience scales with your level, it really adds up fast.

Elixirs Exist
Something new to the Diablo franchise, Elixirs function much as they do in other Blizzard games: drinking one gives you a buff for 30 minutes, depending on which type of Elixir you imbibe. While the buff itself can be useful (usually some type of Resistance), the real reason to remember Elixirs is that every one of them gives you an experience bonus that persists through death while the Elixir is active.
While you'll sometimes receive Elixirs as rewards from Quests, don't fret about running out - a trip to the Alchemist will let you craft as many as you want, so you'll never lose out on that sweet, sweet experience while leveling.
You've Got Built-In GPS - Don't Forget To Use It!
Many players have lamented the lack of a transparent map overlay, but not many have realized you actually have built-in GPS on your map. Simply Right-click on any location you'd like to go to, and you'll plot a navigation line showing you the shortest path to your destination.
This line is visible on your minimap while the main map is closed, making it perfect for players on the go. Just pin and profit!

Salvage vs. Selling - What To Do With Your Gear?
While many players worry about their Gold income, hold off before you sell all your gear - you may want to Salvage it instead.
While the endgame of Diablo 4 heavily revolves around crafting, which requires quite a bit of Gold, you won't be doing as much of it while leveling (at least not to high scaling price levels). Materials are just as important as Gold, and in many ways are harder to come by - you should consider Salvaging your gear at a Blacksmith over selling it outright, at least some of the time. if you're TRULY hurting for Gold, a few trips with a full inventory should fix that issue quickly.

Waypoints Are Important - But Your Town Portal Moves With You
It's incredibly easy to miss a Waypoint during your travels and having to make a long trek back to somewhere you needed to be - so make sure you pick them up as soon as possible (especially ones in hub cities!).

That being said, if you miss a major Waypoint, don't panic - your Town Portal teleport defaults to the main hub town of every zone, so no matter where you are you can still get to civilization in a bind. Just don't forget to grab it a second time!
