Leveling and Paragon Adjustments

Levels 1 to 50 — The traditional level journey is still intact. This is where we receive the bulk of our Skill Points. World Tiers are being replaced with Difficulties, but they will operate more or less the same in terms of progression. It's currently unknown how and if Capstone Dungeons are being updated to be in line with these changes, but it's only logical they too receive updates.

Levels 50 to 60 — During these levels, players will earn 10 additional Skill Points, adding to the current total of 50.

At Level 60 — Players will start earning Paragon Levels. Each Paragon Level provides a single Paragon Point, and the total number of Paragon Points is being increased from 200 to 300. This means that there will be 328 total Paragon Points, i.e., 300 from Leveling, 24 from Renown, and 4 from the Altars of Lilith. Additionally, Paragon Levels earned by your main character will be given to any alts on that same Realm once they reach level 50.

Paragon and Character Level Split

Paragon and character levels are now split out, with Levels 1–60 representing character level. This means you can earn an additional 10 Skill Points, opening additional avenues of character customization. Starting at Level 60, players will begin to earn Paragon Levels which can be used to unlock Paragon Nodes.

Characters above Level 50 will have all their experience-based Paragon Points converted to a Paragon Level. Here’s an example of this change:

If your character is Level 100 currently, once these changes go into effect, your character level will be reduced to 50, and all 200 Paragon Points your character has earned with be converted to Realm-wide Paragon Levels. If your character is Level 50 and below, nothing will change for them.
The number of Paragon Points that can be earned by leveling has increased from 200 to 300.

Developer’s Note: The changes to leveling and Paragon were made with the intent of getting you to endgame activities and gear at a more rapid pace and making it easier to ramp up your alt characters for the fight ahead.

The only viable reason to do a level squish and redistribution of talent/skills is for future expansions beyond the new VoH. If you compare Blizzard's Warcraft expansion history of levelling, new races (consider the new race in warcraft to the new class added in VoH) and their talent tree to Diablo 4's, I see plans for much more content coming in the future. Previous Diablo's (2 and 3) had expansions, just one each though. With an open world and a push at the MMO feeling you see how this creates avenues for more content to be developed that can be appealing to more players of diverse interest in what Diablo 4 offers.

I just hope that with all of these changes, as I'm not seasonally inclined at all, that your main toon won't be a wasted project full of useless equipment because of changes to skills, paragon boards (they are capped at five now I believe to be attached, including the starting board) and of course all of your hoarded equipment over that last 14 months.
