Welcome to the Farming Locations Guide for Diablo II: Resurrected. In this guide, we will cover all relevant end-game farm spots, their exact locations, and much more!
Act I AreasAct II AreasAct III AreasAct IV AreasAct V Areas
Back in Patch 2.5, Blizzard added a feature where certain zones could be Terrorized, increasing monster level and therefore the loot that can drop in them. In order to unlock Terror Zones, the player who creates the game must have completed that difficulty level and defeated Baal. So, Terror Zones will primarily be for end game farming in Hell, although perhaps players may want to use them to gear up as they transition to a new difficulty level.
As of Patch 2.6, Terror Zones appear in offline games as well.
Terror Zones in Diablo II: Resurrected
How Terror Zones Work
There are multiple indicators in-game on the auto-map, in the Waypoint menu and in other places to show what the current Terror Zone is. One example is shown below, where the Far Oasis is being Terrorized.
As you reach the top of the hour, you will get messages in your game window showing you where the new corruption has struck.
Here is how the level boost works. It is based on the level of the player who created the game and the difficulty level, but will never be lower than the base level of that zone. In other words, if a level 75 player creates a Hell game and a level 85 zone is Terrorized, Standard Monsters will still be level 85, not level 77.
Normal
Standard Monsters: +2 player level up to 45
Champion: +4 player level up to 47
Unique: +5 player level up to 48
Nightmare
Standard Monsters: +2 player level up to 71
Champion: +4 player level up to 73
Unique: +5 player level up to 74
Hell
Standard Monsters: +2 player level up to 96
Champion: +4 player level up to 98
Unique: +5 player level up to 99
List of Terror Zones
Here are the zones that can become Terrorized. Each hour, the zone which is being Terrorized changes, so if you don't like the current Terror Zone, it will change at the top of the hour. It does not help to make a new game or switch characters; you will just get another fresh version of the zone you did not like.
All of the Act Boss Zones can be Terrorized. Most of the Terror Zones also contain a "Super Unique" monster such as Bishibosh in the Cold Plains or Corpsefire in the Den of Evil. These monsters pose an enhanced challenge and can drop the new and highly desirable Sundered Charms in Hell Difficulty for players over level 75. So, if you are in a farming game, check the Terror Zone and unless it is rife with an undesirable immunity for your build, it is worth your time to clear it.

How Item Farming Works in Diablo II: Resurrected
The basics of item farming in Diablo II: Resurrected are fairly simple: You go to a spot and you kill monsters. The
Magic Find
property helps with finding better and rarer loot while farming, That is why you should aim for as much Magic Find on your equipment as you can while trying to keep your character and build intact.
Check out our extensive Magic Find Guide to learn more about the Magic Find property and how it works!
Magic Find Guide
Besides Magic Find, another relevant in-game property is
Area Level
. Every area in Diablo II: Resurrected is assigned to a certain Area Level. Almost all monsters
except Super Unique and Act Bosses
are assigned to Area Levels depending on the zone they're spawning in.
In Diablo II: Resurrected, Area Level 85 is the best zone level, and only a few zones in Hell difficulty are assigned to it. In general, players want to farm in these high-level zones to be able to drop the very best loot of the game.
Many discussions around the Area Level term confuse it with Treasure Class and call the following zones "Treasure Class 85" zones - however, there is no Treasure Class 85. Treasure Classes are item subsets that are assigned to monsters based on Area Level and Monster Rarity.
Act I Farming Locations
Secret Cow Level
Entrance: Rogue Encampment
The Secret Cow Level is one of the most iconic farming spots in Diablo II: Resurrected. Players mostly farm the Cow Level for a chance to find certain runes and runeword item bases because of the sheer amount of monsters.
In order to open a portal to the wondrous level, you need to
a) have killed Baal in the difficulty you're trying to open the portal
b) be in Rogue Encampment of Act I
b) loot Wirt's Leg, a flavor item found on Wirt's Body in the far left corner of Act I's Tristram zone
c) combine Wirt's Leg and a Tome of Town Portal in your Horadric Cube
After entering the zone, you will be confronted with waves over waves of angry bovines. Somewhere in the zone, you will find a fort-like structure that serves as the base of the Cow King, a Super Unique boss.
Underground Passage Level 2
Entrance: Under Underground Passage Level 1, Entrance in Dark Wood
Golden Chests: Yes
Immunities: Viles, Fallen, Skeleton Archers
Similar to the Pit, the Underground Passage layout and its weak monsters are excellent for targeted farming in Act I. However, the fact that you have to a) find the Underground Passage and b) get through Level 1 to get to Level 2 makes this more of a secondary choice in Area Level 85 farming, unfortunately.
Countess
Entrance: Tower Cellar in Black Marsh
The
Tower Cellar
, located in Black Marsh of Act I, is the home of the Countess, a Super Unique boss. The 5-level dungeon has been the go-to zone for players who try to target-farm certain runes. The best strategy to find the Tower Cellar entrance is to circle around the Black Marsh waypoint.
Between all difficulties, the Countess can drop the following runes:
On Normal, the Countess can drop anything from El to up to Ral runes.
On Nightmare, the Countess can drop anything from El to Io or Ko runes, while every rune above Io will drop less often.
On Hell, the Countess can drop anything from El to Ist or Lo runes, while every rune above Ist will drop less often.
The range of runes appears to be different between her normal (Io in Nightmare/Ist in Hell) and bonus rune drops (Ko in Nightmare/Lo in Hell). If you're looking for a complete rune list, check out our comprehensive Runes Guide for Diablo II: Resurrected!
Runes Guide
Mausoleum
Entrance: Burial Grounds
Golden Chests: Yes
Immunities: Skeletons, Zombies
The Mausoleum can be found in the Burial Grounds, the quest zone for the Blood Raven quest. It is the first Area Level 85 zone available in Hell and thus very popular for entry-level item farming. It also only contains Lightning immune random unique bosses.
Pit
Entrance: Tamoe Highland
Golden Chests: Yes
Immunities: Fallen, Dark Stalkers & Skeletons, Dark Archers
The Pit is the most popular non-boss farming spot in Act I. Most of the mob types spawning in both levels are easy to kill, and the size of both levels makes farming this zone more than worthwhile. Besides that, it is yet another Area Level 85 zone, making it an easy choice for all builds that are on the hunt for best-in-slot items.
To find the Pit entrance, you just need to follow the road from the cloister entrance which is easy to reach via the Outer Cloister waypoint.
Andariel
Entrance: Catacombs Level 4
Andariel, the Act boss of Act I, takes second place on the "most popular Act bosses to farm" list for Diablo II: Resurrected. In the remaster of Diablo II, the infamous Andariel Loot Bug has been fixed - but that doesn't make Andariel a less-desired farming target for end-game characters. If you want to know more about farming Andariel, please check out our in-depth guide below!
Andariel Farming Guide
Act II Farming Locations
Stony Tomb Level 1 & 2
Entrance: Rocky Waste, outside of Lut Gholein
Golden Chests: Yes
Immunities: Skeletons, Mummies
As one of the first optional zones in Act II, the Stony Tomb is a perfect place to farm up a storm. Thanks to Patch 2.4, this Area Level 85 zone has very few immunities and lots of room for character and minion movement. The only downside, if there are any, is that traveling through Lut Gholein to the Rocky Waste can take a bit longer than expected.
Ancient Tunnels
Entrance: Lost City
Golden Chests: Yes
Immunities: Skeleton Mages, Plague Bearers, Mummies, Invaders
Hidden behind a trap door, the Ancient Tunnels in the Lost City zone showcase the first Area Level 85 zone of Act II. Similar to Mausoleum and Pit of Act I, it is significantly easier to farm this underground map compared to much more dangerous zones in Act IV or V.
The only real downside is the spawning pattern of its entry location - but similar to the Tower Cellar of Act I, running wider and wider circles around the Lost City waypoint will certainly help.
Maggot Lair Level 3
Entrance: Maggot Lair Level 2 & 1, Far Oasis
Golden Chests: Yes
Immunities: Scarabs, Larvae/Maggots, Locust Swarms
You might ask yourself one question: Who in all the hells would farm in the Maggot Lair?
Well, the answer is simple: Maggot Lair Level 3 is the second Area Level 85 zone of Act II. Characters with Teleport or linear damaging abilities such as Javazons or Bone Necros can easily navigate through the first two levels. Level 3 can also contain a ton of Super Chests, and there's the Super Unique boss called Coldworm that is very easy to kill.
Arcane Sanctuary
Entrance: Palace Cellar
Golden Chests: No
Immunities: Ghoul Lords, Khazra Clan
Arcane Sanctuary is a zone that a majority of the player base absolutely despises.
However, it does contain a lot of Super Chests, and Sorcs of all sorts have a wonderfully easy time teleporting from chest spawn to chest spawn. That is why Arcane Sanctuary is especially valuable for targeted high-rune farming.
Act III Farming Locations
Arachnid Lair
Entrance: Spider Forest, right at waypoint
Golden Chests: Yes
Immunities: Spiders, Larvae, Fiend Bats
As one of the spider caves, Arachnid Lair features a plethora of everyone's favorite insects. After 2.4 upped this to an Area Level 85 zone, end-game characters couldn't ask for a better spot to farm: Its entrance is right at a waypoint, its layout is just the right size, and there's also a golden chest available!
Swampy Pit Level 1 & 2 & 3
Entrance: Flayer Jungle, near waypoint
Golden Chests: Yes
Immunities: Gloams, Mummies & Stygian Dolls, Zombies
As one of the most unpopular zones in Diablo II, the Swampy Pit has still received a level increase with Patch 2.4. Now an Area Level 85 zone, only the most well-equipped character should come in here for farming. Gloams, Stygian Dolls, mediocre layouts, countless gutters, and tight hallways will make your life miserable one way or the other. The big upside? The level face-lift affected all three levels that feature extremely high monster density - so if you can take the heat, you'll definitely have a field day in there!
Lower Kurast
Entrance: Border of Flayer Jungle
As one of two major Super Chest farming locations besides the Arcane Sanctuary, Lower Kurast has always been a farm favorite for end-game characters. In our in-depth Lower Kurast Farming Guide, we go over the optimal route to get the best out of your Lower Kurast Run!
Lower Kurast Farming Guide
Ruined Temple
Entrance: Kurast Bazaar
Golden Chests: Yes
Immunities: Spiders, Ghoul Lords & Hunters, Yetis, Night Lords
As one of the many old temples of Kurast, the Ruined Temple doesn't really hold much for adventurers. However, the number of temples that have been upgraded to Area Level 85 with Patch 2.4 could make farming these small and low-density areas worthwhile - and, in Ruined Temple's case, for one reason in particular: Battlemaid Sarina, a monster level 87 super unique boss.
Disused Fane
Entrance: Kurast Bazaar
Golden Chests: Yes
Immunities: Spiders, Ghoul Lords & Hunters, Yetis, Night Lords
The Disused Fane has a very similar layout compared to the Ruined Temple and can be found in the same zone. As already said, upgrading these two temples to AL 85 could become worthwhile for farmers focusing on Act III farming spots.
Forgotten Temple
Entrance: Upper Kurast
Golden Chests: Yes
Immunities: Scarabs, Blood Bats, Serpents and Archers
As one of the Area Level 85 zones in Act III, the Forgotten Temple has its place in the end-game farming route. However, its relatively small map size makes it less worthwhile for multiplayer characters.
That, however, doesn't affect Offline players who don't need to search for its entry over and over again, turning the Kurast zones into popular farming locations for Offline players and holy grail fanatics.
Sewers Level 1
Entrance: Kurast Bazaar or Upper Kurast
Golden Chests: No
Immunities: Mosquitoes & Stygian Dolls, Skeletons & Zombies, Ancients, Gloom Bats
There's no doubt about it: The Sewers of Act III are one of the most hated zones in all of Diablo's franchise. Funnily enough, the first Sewer level has become an Area Level 85 zone with Patch 2.4, bringing some much-needed diversity to Act III's farming route. And guess what - if you take care of the Stygian Dolls, we might look at a very decent farming zone in Diablo II: Resurrected from now on.
Disused Reliquary & Ruined Fane
Entrance: Kurast Causeway
Golden Chests: No
Immunities: Scarabs, Blood Bats, Serpents and Archers
These two underground temples that can be found on the Kurast Causeway are Area Level 85 zones as well. Similar to the Forgotten Temple, their map sizes are not very big, so players might want to include all the other Kurast zones such as Travincal into their route.
Mephisto
Entrance: Durance of Hate Level 2 & 1, after defeating the Council in Travincal
Mephisto, Act boss of Act III, is the most popular Act boss to farm in Diablo II: Resurrected.
The main reason for that is that spellcasters are able to get Mephisto stuck in several places of the level. That way, basically every ranged class is able to finish him without much effort or gear. One of the "golden spots" is located at the entrance of the left vestibule in the final level of Durance of Hate. Do you want to improve on your Mephisto farming? Check out our Mephisto Farming Guide below!
Mephisto Farming Guide
Act IV Farming Locations
River of Flame
Entrance: City of the Damned
Golden Chests: No
Immunities: Abyss Knights, Pit Lords, Fiends & Maggots, Grotesque
As one of the very few open Area Level 85 areas, River of Flame is a great fit for melee and minion farming builds. Most players that do Chaos Sanctuary runs will also clear River of Flame because the two zones are connected.
Chaos Sanctuary
Entrance: End of River of Flame
Golden Chests: No
Immunities: Storm Casters, Doom Knights & Venom Lords, Oblivion Knights
The second meaningful farming zone of Act IV and home of Diablo. Similar to River of Flame, builds that prefer more open areas will love to farm this zone.
However, a certain amount of defense is advised because mob types like Doom Knights, Storm Casters, and Venom Lords can deal terrible, terrible damage. Another newly introduced disadvantage is that the Oblivion Knights seem to cast Lower Resist in Diablo II: Resurrected, making players much more vulnerable to magic attacks.
Act V Farming Locations
Eldritch & Shenk
Entrance: Border between Bloody Foothills and Frigid Highlands
Immunities: Enslaved & Eldritch & Shenk, Skeleton Archers
The Frigid Highlands showcase one of the coolest farming spots in Diablo II: Resurrected. As soon as you port to the waypoint and make your way north, you'll find the Super Unique boss Eldritch.
After you've made quick work of him and his minions, move back south into the Bloody Foothills to meet the second Super Unique boss Shenk.
That way you can handle two bosses basically at once - and while they may not be part of Area Level 85, they're still worth being farmed just because of the easy routing.
Abaddon
Entrance: Frigid Highlands
Golden Chests: Yes
Immunities: Skeleton Archers, Stranglers, Balrogs
As one of the three "Hell-like" zones of Act V, the Abaddon is one of the numerous new Level 85 zones of Patch 2.4. Similar to the Stony Tombs, they offer a lot of space for melee characters and summoners alike. As with all Act V zones, the monster types are always a bit more dangerous compared to all other acts - however, those should be easily manageable once you're used to Abaddon's layout.
Pit of Acheron
Entrance: Arreat Plateau
Golden Chests: Yes
Immunities: Salamanders, Unravellers, Blood Lords
The Pit of Acheron shares looks and layouts with Abaddon and Infernal Pit. The thing you need to look out for in this case is the Blood Lords, mostly because their Frenzy-fueled attacks hit like trucks.
Infernal Pit
Entrance: Frozen Tundra
Golden Chests: Yes
Immunities: Salamander & Fire Boars & Doom Knights & Stygian Dolls, Enslaved & Ghoul Lords & Oblivion Knights
Last but not least, the Infernal Pit is the last of the three "Hell" zones that have been raised to Area Level 85 with Patch 2.4. Funnily enough, this dungeon can spawn Stygian Dolls of Act III - so if you already have flashbacks to running through the Sewers and the Swampy Pit, you should definitely think twice about running Infernal Pit!
Pindleskin
Entrance: Anya's Red Portal in Harrogath
Immunities: Skeleton Warriors, Pindleskin
Pindleskin is, without a doubt, the most popular Super Unique boss in Diablo II: Resurrected. He's located in Nihlatak's Temple right behind the red portal that Anya spawns in Harrogath.
The main reason behind Pindleskin's popularity is that he's Treasure Class 87 - that means that his loot table includes almost every possible Diablo II item.
Drfiter Cavern
Entrance: Glacial Trail
Golden Chests: Yes
Immunities: Moon Lords, Khazra Clan & Infidel, Skeleton Mages, Ghosts
Just like the Icy Cellar in the Ancient's Way, The Drifter Cavern can be found within the Glacial Trail. While it doesn't hold a super unique like the Icy Cellar, it's still worthwhile to farm this new Area Level 85 zone - mostly because it spawns a lot less dangerous monster types and also holds a golden chest.
Icy Cellar
Entrance: Ancient's Way
Golden Chests: Yes
Immunities: Vipers & Frozen Creepers, Gloom Bats, Gloams, Stygian Dolls, Hell Lords
The Icy Cellar might be one of the more exciting additions to Patch 2.4's Area Level 85 pool. Despite the fact that it can spawn multi-immune Gloams and Gloom Bats, its layout is easy to handle and to abuse as a ranged class. The sole reason to run Icy Cellar more than the other 85 zones is the fact that it always spawns a super unique boss called Snapchip Shatter that can drop the maximum rarity of loot in the game, Treasure Class 87!
Worldstone Keep Level 1 & 2 & 3
Entrance: Arreat Summit after defeating the Ancients
Golden Chests: No
Immunities: All
Baal's retreat concludes our Top Farming Hot Spots list. Worldstone Keep inhabits the most dangerous monsters of Sanctuary - in return, players are rewarded with a whooping three large levels of Area Level 85. Combined with the fact that many monsters there are Monster Level 87+, the rarest items like Tyrael's Might can drop here.
