Relic of the Past Changes
The continuing development of the Relic of the Past system of upgrading (or downgrading) old expansion profession crafts saw some important changes this week ...
The cast time for all has been set to 2 seconds.
The ilevel of the Relic V has been changed to 87 from 100.
Those items which were at ilevel 100 without optional reagents are also 87.
The Tuxedo Jacket bug where it was worth 34,000g has been fixed by removing the Optional Reagent.
The Outland Tailoring TEST 64 Gun has been replaced with Netherweave Cloth.

Template characters start at ilvl75 and there's really no issue questing when you start at that ilvl. From my understanding ilvl 400 = 72 in Shadowlands, and 410 = 76, so anything that's below ilvl 400 atm is probably worth a look at.
The 8.3 armor tokens though give ilvl 415 loot, so that's going to be around ilvl 78 so if you have some of those, they're going to be plenty fine enough to get you through enough quests early on in Shadowlands to get that gear replaced with quest rewards.
I don't think ilvl 100 crafted gear was really OP, even for twinking since it makes the level requirement be 50, and your ilvl options at L50 go up to 130/140 with Mythic Nyalotha gear. A couple of items may have found their niche in twinking thanks to unique properties on them, but I don't think it would have been all that many. Even easily attainable heroic gear is 115.
Personally I fully expect the shuffle to be neutered. Given how they clearly tried to drain the economy of gold throughout BFA, I can't see them leaving in such an easy AFK gold printing machine.
The value, in my opinion, came from old world items being useful again for levelling. Many people have heirlooms, but not for every spec, and certainly not all reaching up to 120. So while many people might have heirlooms that work until L30 or so, they probably don't have ones that are good until 50. Having reasonably decent crafted items, especially in the 45-50 range could actually be worth something for people levelling new characters so that they don't feel super weak by that point.
But if these items are worse than the random boe greens that everyone will be getting by just levelling through Shadowlands, what's the point? You could just buy those if you're needing a bit of a boost in power. Assuming they fix the vendor shuffle, the only value in old world crafts will once again come down mostly to if it's a good transmog item.
It certainly looks like Blizzard intend to keep the Relic system and it seems a great way to make good use of old items. There is still a lot of potential to make gold and the markets for materials and old world farms are already shifting as speculation abounds.

I went ahead and did some of the legwork since I did't see one around. I'm sure as soon as I post this I'll realize someone had made one long ago. Gives a good chunk of information from GPH with Relic 4 and 5 to Raw Gold and what will give you the raw gold from easy to craft vanilla stuff.

Things are still changing with Relics, so be warned this all may change at the last minute. However, it does appear that the system is here to stay and I welcome that. Personally, I feel the true power is in finding items that will be useful to Twinks and for levelling through the expansions.

Brutosaur or Game Time?
talks about an interesting point this week about even if you have the gold to buy a Brutosaur, would you choose to do something else with the gold? ..
I'm not a goblin, I made my money through the mission tables in WoD and Legion with alts. I have a solid nest egg that I sit on like an angry dragon. The mission tables have been super underwhelming this expansion so my pile has not gone up that much.
I have the gold. However it's a good chunk of what I own, like around 50%. The fact that it's going away and who knows if we'll see it again is giving me FOMO, and I'm a mount collector to boot.
That said, the Brutosaur is currently sitting at nearly $700USD value. Or roughly three years of playing for free. I'm struggling trying to justify the cost and was wondering how other people justified it to themselves?

Don't think of it as a rare mount that's going away soon.
Think of it as a portable auction.
Do you use the auction enough to justify that much, or would you rather hoard it like an angry dragon in hopes that you find something you like more, or are able to spend it on bnet?
If you want the auction aspect of it, go for it.
But there's nothing wrong with not buying it just for the sake of buying it
Throughout the past few months we have seen many strive for the Brutosaur simply because it was moving to the BMAH. This has shifted a lot of players focus to gold making where ordinarily it wouldn't to the extent that many have been burned out and disillusioned by the process.
Was this a good decision? Would you have bought the Brutosaur anyway? What would you do with that gold otherwise?
Speed Druid Setups

I have a level 110 kul tiran druid with herbalism and mining and he is really fun. Are they talking about a way to make flight form even faster somehow?

You get the legendaries from legion and stack movement speed from raids, this is either from legion, hellfire citadel or the azerite items from bfa. You lock a druid at 111 or 115, my speed druid is 110 tho just cause of personal preference.
This is all getting nerfed pretty soon and it's quite an investment of time to complete one to max efficiency so I wouldn't make one at this stage. If you want a way to gather faster use darkmoon firewater but again it's cost vs reward on that one.
The farming meta might be totally different in SL with all the changes so if you're not already into this kinda thing I would hold off for a few weeks until the best methods are established and then just follow along.
Which brings us onto the discussion of what will make a good Speed Druid in Shadowlands? This ties in with the discussion of Relics above and being able to craft socketed items from old expansions and make use of the new
from Shadowlands to increase speed.

Like many things, there are going to be big changes and shifts with the level and item squish coming in pre-patch. Al lot of what we know will have to adapt to the new changes and therefore opening up new and exciting markets for gold making!

What is the best profession for Shadowlands? The answer is: they all are. The question should be: ‘When should I start with crafting gear in Shadowlands or which kind of cooking should I start with?’ Every profession has it’s up & down moments.
See every new expansion as the 4 seasons in a year. It starts with winter, then spring, summer, autumn and back to winter. You will hardly sell a warm sweater during the summer or ice cream in autumn. Nice warm gloves will sell much better in the winter or sunglasses in the summer.
It’s all about the need from the buyers at that moment. That’s why I created a timeline for professions in the first month of Shadowlands.
Will it go a 100% according to the picture on the right? No, but it should give you a good indication on whats going to happen.

I'm not going to ask what profs to chose because we don't really know yet and it will depend on my server. I'll probably just make an educated guess and stick with it,
What I am interested to get some guidance on however, is how best to approach the start of an expansion from a professions perspective.
I assumed I would start with gathering professions while I level then swap at least one of them to a crafting profession once I have reached max level and finished a lot of the initial world-quest type of content.
Say for the sake of argument I chose Inscription. Is it worthwhile buying-up lots of herbs to power-level inscription ASAP so I can start profiting early from selling the desirable inscription items to the hardcore raiders as soon as the raid releases? Or should I gather-up as many herbs as I can myself to level it organically?
I imagine the herbs will cost disproportionately more at the start of the expansion but then so would what I would be making to sell. I got lucky and got a BOE from mythic Nyalotha this tier so I have a little bit of cash to kick-start my enterprise if I need it. I don't really spend much gold generally while playing so I might as well use it for something!
Are there any other pieces of wisdom you could share with me?

Generally I start off with inscription and whatever my main characters armor type is. Being able to craft your own armor early on when your trying to get into Mythic dungeons week one is often pretty useful. Also the armor in general tends to sell very well. Inscription is for the darkmoon cards, they have pretty much always been the number one trinket for every class going into the first raid which means they pretty much always sell like hotcakes.
Once the raid season starts I generally swap to alchemy for the flask duration and to craft my own potions as it saves me a huge amount those first few weeks while the flasks and potions are insanely highly priced.
With less than 6 figures in the bank you would probably be best off gathering to start. "power-leveling" profession is not cheap first few weeks of an expansion, and I feel there will be greater competition this expansion when selling crafted items as less are locked behind rep walls. Thus making it hard to get good return on your large spend to powerlevel. 50-60k per hour wont be too uncommon from skinning herbs and mining for the first few weeks. Decision is yours.
