Hey everyone, and welcome to another bit of WoW History! Every week, we look down at important events that happened in WoW (or Blizzard!) for that week.
How's everyone preparing for Christmas? As we approach the holidays, we check out a few Micro Holidays and the Holiday that started all holidays in WoW, the Feast of Winter Veil!
2016
December 12th, 2016
On this day, 2 micro-holidays were uncovered on the PTR:
Un'Goro Madness
and
Glowcap Festival
!
Un'Goro Madness happens between
March 17th and 19th
. The Dinosaurs of
Der Krater von Un'Goro
are growing extra restless, so players are invited to the lush zone to tame them down! During the holiday, elite, max-level dinosaurs will roam around the zone.
Together with the elite dinosaurs, we'll see updated versions of classic Un'Goro rares (such as
Gelegemutter Zavas
), new renditions of classic Un'Goro fixtures (like the ghost of
Dadanga
, killed during the Cataclysm) and other assorted rares. Killing any of them gives your entire party
Dinomojo
, used to give you random evolution buffs, like
Anpassung: Gifthaut
.
Glowcap Festival happens in
May 27th
. On this day, the sporelings of
Sporeggar
in
Zangarmarschen
hold their annual mushroom festival, where they will revere
Fshoo
, the Great Glowcap. Fshoo will spawn in the middle of Sporeggar and grow, eventually wilting away. You can keep Fshoo alive by healing him or using items like
Sack mit Heilsporen
and
Pilzlebenshalm
, lootable nearby.
Once Fshoo eventually dies, you'll receive Sporeggar reputation for every stack of
Fshoo wächst
it had on its death. This makes the micro-holiday a nice and quick way to grind Sporeggar reputation to Exalted.

Un'Goro Madness
and
Glowcap Festival
holidays!

On this day, during the Legion beta,
Sturmheim
became available for testing!
Stormheim is a Vrykul-centered zone that focuses on the conflict between the Horde and the Alliance. Sylvanas wants to find a way to create more Val'kyr, and Greymane finds this to be the perfect opportunity to finally get his revenge over the death of his son, that happened during the Worgen starting zone questline.
Along the way, you learn more about vrykul lore, interacting with their deities and even going to their purgatory! The zone is home to the
Die Hallen der Tapferkeit
dungeon as well as the Warrior Class Hall. The storyline of the zone is finished in the
Die Prüfung der Tapferkeit
raid, which wasn't included in the expansion's launch.
Check out our Stormheim preview, with all the interesting things you can find there!
December 14th, 2015
A hidden toy was finally found on this day! The
Faszinierender Fruchthut
made an appearance during the Warlords of Draenor beta, but remained literally hidden in plain sight for pretty much the entire expansion. The item can be found in
Tal der Vier Winde
at the coordinates 52,63, under the
Haufen mysteriöser Früchte
.
This item puts the fruit hat on top of your head and has you dancing the conga! It works with other transformations (a highlight being with Pepe via
Transdimensionale Vogelpfeife
, making him Pepe sit comfortable among the fruit), and if used on your Garrison, your followers and the NPCs will slowly join you on the conga line!
Check out when this was reported.

December 13th, 2010
On this day, Blizzard implemented a new PvP System:
War Games
, where players can challenge each other to Battleground or Arena matches for fun.
Those can be created with the PvP interface or by using the text commands /wargame or /wg. Using these commands, you can challenge another group of players to a match in any of the current battlegrounds or arenas, maybe to settle up something, maybe because you're bored: those do not give honor or rewards.
This system was expanded from Arena Skirmishes and was launched with PvP Season 9. Before Warlords of Draenor, you could only challenge people from your own realm, but this has since been changed so you can also challenge someone via battletag, and with it, people from other realms.
Check out when this was reported, as well as any questions you might have about War Games!

Patch 1.2.0 is here!
Mysteries of Maraudon
is the first content patch in the history of World of Warcraft. Highlights of the patch include:
New Dungeon:
Maraudon
-
In the depths of
Desolace
, lies the earthen tomb of Zaetar, fallen Keeper of the Grove and Son of Cenarius. Zaetar rejected his heritage once he joined together with the earthen
Prinzessin Theradras
, and together, they gave birth to the misshapen Centaur race, who slew Zaetar for being part of their cursed creation. Theradras, afraid of Cenarius' wrath, stole Zaetar's body and brought it to the secret sanctuary inside Maraudon, where she watches over to this day.
Gurubashi Arena:
The arena located in Stranglethorn Vale is now a free for all PvP area! Later on, the chest event would be added to give the place a bigger reward.
Cloak and Helm graphics:
An option was added to the Interface, allowing you to not display your helm or cloak, if you so wish.
Feast of Winter Veil
Together with Patch 1.2.0, the first WoW event was launched, the
Winterhauchfest
! The event is the in-game counterpart of Christmas and other end of year events. The Smokywood Pastures, composed of the Jinglepocket and Copperpinch family of goblins appear in all capital cities to share their holiday goodies!
During the Feast of Winter Veil, several WoW bosses also appear to share on the holiday cheer, wearing santa hats and even dropping their
Rote Wintermütze
s! And on December 25th, the giant Christmas Tree in Ironforge and Orgrimmar will also have gifts for your WoW characters!
The event has several quests for holiday fun stuff that can be seen on our
Feast of Winter Veil guide
.
