Rise of Azshara introduced a new optional gearing system to the game:
Benthic Gear
. With it, players are able to create items with unique properties that are active in Nazjatar and the Eternal Palace raid.
In this article, we will take a look at these items and why so many raiders of different skills are creating them.
Benthic Gear Basics
Benthic items are created from
Benthic Tokens
(i.e.
Benthischer Helm
). Those tokens are rewarded by many activities in Nazjatar, rares, world quests, random mobs, and you can purchase tokens in Mezzamere/Newhome from
Handwerker Itanu
/
Finderin Palta
for 5
Prismatische Manaperle
each.
Learn more details about Benthic Armor in our guide.
Aside from Azerite slots, each slot has a couple of Benthic gear options, with different effects, so every time you convert a token to a piece of gear, you may get different items.
Each piece of Benthic armor has stats pre-assigned to each effect, so you can't create different tokens to hope for better stats in a certain piece of gear. Benthic armor also cannot Warforge or Titanforge. However, it can receive a socket and a tertiary stat, like Leech or Speed.
When you create an armor piece, it will always come at item level 385, with normal slots being able to be upgraded with the use of
Prismatische Manaperle
to item level 425 and Azerite slots up to 430.
Strength of Benthic Effects
The main attractiveness of Benthic Armor is their special effects for Eternal Palace. Some of the effects like
Tiefenjäger
from Benthic Boots that increases your critical strike damage by 3% is really strong, especially for specs with high crit chance. Or
Schaden gegen Entartungen
that increases your damage by 2% when fighting against
Orgozoa
and
Za'qul
.
These effects provide, on average, 1% to 2% damage increase, which is pretty big for a single item. However, they come with the downside that these items will be at most item level 425, unlike other items that can Titanforge up to 455 during this tier.
So, in the end, it comes down to the question if those extra effects can justify the possible item level gap.
Benthic Lottery
In short, the answer is yes, most Benthic pieces, together with their best DPS effects, can outperform their raid counterparts, even in their Mythic version, or at max Titanforging (ilvl 455). This victory comes from the fact that you're sacrificing only a couple of stats in a single slot to provide such a boost to your overall damage.
The final nail in the coffin for other sources of gear is that Benthic Armor can gain a socket when you create it. This means that, besides getting items with really strong raid procs, you also can, fairly easily, get those items always with a gem slot, which is pretty strong in itself, with most specs able to get around 1% DPS increase from the new epic gems like
Spiegelnder Sandspinell
or
Meisterlicher Meerescassis
.
For instance, you can look at
a simulation for Benthic Bracers
that while you gain 0.6% DPS increasing your raid wrist from 425 to 445, it still pales in comparison to the increase that the best Benthic Effects provide, even that they are tied to non-optimal stats in the base item.
Another example you can look at is
simulations for Benthic boots
, for classes with a high average crit chance throughout the fight, their effect can be powerful. This strength, however, varies from spec to spec and even is gear dependent.
Farming Prismatic Manapearls
With all this talk, you must be asking what can you do to get all this Benthic Armor. Well, for starters, it may take a while. In order to reach item level 425 from 385 in a non-Azerite piece, you must spend 0
Prismatische Manaperle
in that piece. Plus, as mentioned above, it is highly recommended that you create the correct piece of Benthic Armor
with
a socket. The chances of that aren't the best, so that process alone might take a while, with each attempt costing another 5
Prismatische Manaperle
.
Note: For players with multiple characters with Nazjatar unlocked, note that the Benthic Tokens are Bind on Battle.net Account, so you can technically farm them on alts and send them for your main to open them and vice-versa.
Nazjatar World Quests and Emissaries
The easiest and most reliable sources for
Prismatische Manaperle
are World Quests and the Nazjatar Reputation Emissary. Those will always be the same for every character and can be done quickly without much trouble.
Note that Warmode bonuses apply to
Prismatische Manaperle
as well.
Nazjatar Dailies
Daily quests available in your faction hub in Mezzamere/Newhome may occasionally also provide
Prismatische Manaperle
. However, the reward from those quests changes from character to character, so while one quest may reward 5
Prismatische Manaperle
to some players, others may get from it. Bodyguard quests also reward
Prismatische Manaperle
.
Nazjatar Rares
One of the easiest methods to farm them is sitting around Nazjatar and killing all rares every day. While not a guaranteed drop, each rare can give 1-5
Prismatische Manaperle
each on your first kill of the day, so if you're looking to get Manapearls, it is a good idea to hang around Nazjatar and fly around killing rares as they appear.
Algans in Nazjatar
One of the unknown methods to acquire
Prismatische Manaperle
is to kill Algan mobs in Nazjatar. There are two different versions of them in Nazjatar:
Widerspenstiges Algan
and
Verschollenes Algan
. They roam around the zone and can be found in many different places: Ashen Strand, Spears of Azshara, Dragon's Teeth Basin, Coral Forest, Kal'methir, Zin-Azshari. Below you can see the areas they can be found on.
Algans have a chance of dropping
Prismatische Manaperle
but can also drop full Benthic Tokens and other useful Nazjatar items. A good way of finding them is either configuring your favorite rare scanner addon to track their IDs (151166 and 152549) or get a WeakAura for it, like
this one
.
While they can be farmed for long periods of time, players have reported that there may be a cap on how many
Prismatische Manaperle
s you can get from them. It isn't clear if it is a daily or weekly cap, but there are large fluctuations in the quantity you receive from Algans after some farming.
