Matches
Day 3
University of California - Irvine vs California State University - Chico
Neltharion's Lair, +14
UC Irvine pulled ahead early, with high damage from their tank allowing them to take down Rokmora swiftly. CSUC utilised their movement buffs to get to the barrels faster, but UC Irvine's more ambitious pulls kept them ahead until Ularogg. UC Irvine guessed the wrong idol twice and struggled with some deaths, forcing them to reset the boss. Due to these errors CSUC killed Ularogg first, narrowly avoiding an extra phase. By the time UC Irvine killed Ularogg, CSUC were about to pull Naraxas. UC Irvine was able to catch up considerably, getting Naraxas to 31 percent of his health by the time CSUC took him down. With CSUC hitting their required kill percentage early and experiencing a full team wipe, UC Irvine were able to pull ahead and win the race.
Upper Karazhan, +14
UC Irvine chose to stealth pass early packs, but wiped after pulling mobs with The Curator. This allowed CSUC to take down the boss first. The teams were at similar points by Medivh, but UC Irvine were able to the boss narrowly ahead of CSUC. UC Irvine extended their lead by Mana Devourer, pulling the boss much sooner than CSUC. The team powered through the chess event and had Viz'aduum at 36 percent of his health by the time CSUC began the encounter. UC Irvine defeated CSUC 2-0.
University of California - Berkeley vs Irvine Valley College
Neltharion's Lair, +14
Irvine Valley's high single target damage and use of a warlock gate allowed them to take down Rokmora while UC Berkeley still had 15 percent to go. Irvine Valley struggled with deaths on their way to Ularogg, allowing UC Berkeley to pull ahead. UC Berkeley extended their lead as the dungeon went on, getting Ularogg to 80 percent of his health before Irvine Valley began the encounter and taking Naraxas to 55 percent of his health before Irvine Valley reached the boss. UC Berkeley were still in the lead by Dargrul, where Irvine Valley struggled and eventually wiped on the boss. UC Berkeley were able to win the race convincingly, with a clean run and a great time.
Maw of Souls, +14
Irvine Valley struggled with the Sanguine mechanic early on, with mobs taking longer to kill than anticipated. UC Berkeley were able to get Ymiron to 52 percent of his health by the time Irvine Valley began their attempt. UC Berkeley continued their lead with some ambitious pack pulls on the way to Harbaron, despite a couple of deaths. The team pulled Harbaron first, with Irvine Valley wiping on the boss and UC Berkeley taking him down before the opposing team's second attempt. UC Berkeley's lead slowed down while battling Heyla due to deaths but the team stayed in the lead, taking the series 2-0.
Day 4
California State University - Chico vs University of North Carolina - Greensboro
Darkheart Thicket, +15
Despite a messy start, UNCG took down Glaidalis before CSUC. CSUC struggled on their way to Oakheart, incurring several deaths. UNCG pulled further ahead, almost halving Oakheart's health before CSUC began the encounter. CSUC fell further behind with a team wipe on the way to Dresaron right before UNCG began their battle with the boss. All hope was not lost for CSUC, as they caught up considerably and pulled Shade of Xavius before UNCG, taking the boss to 45 percent of his health before the opposing teams' attempt. CSUC had accrued more deaths throughout their run however, making the final seconds of the race crucial. Despite their strong start, UNCG fell short by a few seconds and CSUC won the first race.
Cathedral of Eternal Night, +15
Both teams wiped on mobs before Agronox but CSUC started the encounter first, killing the boss not long after UNCG's pull. CSUC struggled on their way to Thrashbite, adding deaths to their tally. They maintained their lead however, and killed Thrashbite first by a large margin. Both teams struggled with deaths on the way to Domatrax, although a wipe from CSUC seemed to be intentional as it allowed them to skip some mobs. CSUC pulled Domatrax first, taking the boss down to 14 percent of his health before UNCG began their attempt. CSUC's dominance continued for the remainder of the dungeon, killing Mephistroth first to win the series 2-0.
University of California - Irvine vs University of California - Berkeley
Darkheart Thicket, +15
Both teams experienced two deaths on their way to Glaidalis. UC Irvine started the encounter first by a large margin, with UC Berkeley only starting after the opposing team had already defeated the boss. UC Berkeley did deal with more mobs before beginning the encounter, however. Both teams used similar strategies for mobs after Glaidalis but UC Irvine maintained their lead on Oakheart. UC Irvine surged further ahead after this, downing Dresaron hastily around 40 seconds before UC Berkeley began their attempt. UC Irvine had taken Shade of Xavius down to 64 percent of his health before Dresaron fell to UC Berkeley and the team completed the dungeon with very little difficulty after this, granting UC Irvine their first win of the series.
Lower Karazhan, +15
UC Berkeley seemed more comfortable early on in their dungeon pick, finishing the opera event nine seconds ahead of UC Irvine. The teams had a similar strategy on the way to their second boss, although UC Irvine struggled with the Explosive mechanic and UC Berkeley experienced a full team wipe with a long run back. UC Berkeley chose the more traditional route in starting with Maiden of Virtue, downing the boss before UC Irvine's first pull and moving towards Moroes. UC Irvine took a markedly different approach, killing the mobs around Moroes and Attumen the Huntsman before attempting the kill on Attumen. Both their Restoration Druid and Balance Druid fell during the fight and the team elected to use their battle resurrections. UC Irvine moved back to Moroes as UC Berkeley headed toward Attumen the Huntsman, wiping on an ambitious two pack pull. In this time, UC Irvine were able to take the lead and kill Maiden of Virtue before UC Berkeley could attempt Attumen again, continuing their winning streak with a 2-0 victory.
Grand Final: University of California - Irvine vs California State University - Chico
Darkheart Thicket, +15
UC Irvine were successful in their ambitious pulls early on, allowing them to start their encounter with Glaidalis first. CSUC wiped on some mobs that UC Irvine did not pull, putting them further behind. While they avoided the mobs on their way back through, UC Irvine were able to take down the boss before the opposing team's first attempt. CSUC took a considerable amount of time to kill Glaidalis, which may have affected their morale for the remainder of the dungeon. UC Irvine began their encounter with Dresaron while CSUC was still struggling with Oakheart. CSUC wiped while the boss was low on health, slowing them down further. UC Irvine had their own struggles with Shade of Xavius, losing all three DPS towards the end of the fight with no battle resurrections available. Their tank and healer were able to drain the last few percent of health from the boss, killing Shade of Xavius and securing their first victory of the series.
Cathedral of Eternal Night, +15
UC Irvine began their run with an ambitious pull again, though CSUC were the team with more early casualties. UC Irvine secured the first kill on Agronox. Both teams were forced to use a battle resurrection during the fight, which would hinder UC Irvine on Thrashbite as they lost their Restoration Druid early on in the battle. The team managed to take down the boss with little hassle however, while CSUC fell further behind. The team wiped on mobs after Thrashbite while UC Irvine had already begun their encounter with Domatrax. UC Irvine struggled with the boss, losing but resurrecting their Balance Druid before their Arms Warrior died with no resurrection available. Their Rogue also fell due to Chaotic Energy, but the team did successfully kill Domatrax eventually. CSUC continued to struggle, with several deaths on and before Domatrax. UC Irvine continued their dominant performance, killing Mephistroth first by a large margin.
Maw of Souls, +15
CSUC tried pulling mobs more conservatively early on in Maw of Souls but still wiped, the last two matches likely having an effect on their confidence. UC Irvine pulled and killed Ymiron while CSUC struggled, accruing eight deaths by the time they encountered Ymiron the first time, followed by three team wipes. UC Irvine increased their lead on the way to Harbaron with ambitious mob pulls. The team were forced to use both their battle resurrections on their Rogue and Warrior when battling Harbaron but they killed the boss while CSUC was still battling Ymiron, keeping them firmly in the lead. UC Irvine began their encounter with Helya not long after CSUC killed Ymiron and although the team's Rogue died while no battle resurrections were available, UC Irvine were able to win the race and the tournament without losing a single dungeon.
