sat down with World of Warcraft developers Luis Barriga, Cory Stockton, and Eric Maloof to ask them about the Legion companion app, Karazhan, Trial of Valor,
Zügel des lang vergessenen Hippogryphen
and more! Catch up on Saturday's PAX West announcement in our
Patch 7.1 liveblog
.
New Artifact Appearances in 7.1
No definite answer, but artifact appearances are meant to replace the system of new weapon drops; you expect them with new content progression.
Legion Companion App
Cannot be logged in on the companion app and computer at same time. It uses the same login so it's one or the other.
Your login is saved so you don't need to keep relogging back in; it's also supported by the Battle.net authenticator.
Chat functionality was discussed over the course of development, but it was decided to focus on Legion features like World Quests and Missions.
Pet battle functionality was discussed; while the team is focusing on Legion features for now, they are paying attention to how people use the app and if it works out well, keep expanding.
The decision was made to have two separate apps vs one because the team wanted an app specifically for Legion. It may be worth combining the apps in the future.
Mounts
A Nightborne-themed mount is awarded from the 7.1 episodic Suramar content with fancy arcane trappings.
The source for
Zügel des lang vergessenen Hippogryphen
was asked about but no details were given; check out the Wowhead comments on the page to see how users are trying to discover it! While it does look a bit outdated by today's standards, the mount appearance was added to the game
years
ago and Night Elf fans have been wanting this tint ever since.
No mount as of yet for Karazhan, but itemization is something late in the PTR process and is worked on all the way to the end of the cycle. So there's a chance more loot could appear over the PTR.
Trial of Valor
Trial of Valor has no requirements but there is an attunement for Karazhan.
The Stormheim/Trial of Valor story is enhanced by new World Quests in Stormheim.
Karazhan
Karazhan is 9 bosses, almost like a 5-man raid. Has a week-long lockout.
For Karazhan's attunement, you work with Khadgar fighting the Burning Legion. In the pre-Legion quest
Versteckt unter Stapeln
, we escaped demon-infested Karazhan with Khadgar after obtaining
Bemerkenswerte Antiquitäten aus dem alten Azeroth
, and the story picks up from there.
Karazhan sits a little above mythic difficulty and provides players with an upgrade path that's 5-man focused. The idea is that you don't need to touch raids to get really good gear; an attunement is needed so fresh 110 players don't have the choice of choosing between a normal dungeon and advanced Karazhan right at the start.
You can always go back and do original Karazhan. There is a separate side entrance for new Karazhan. (The dialogue was unclear but it hinted that the entrance by the upside-down sinners could be it.)
Scaling and Phasing
There are plans to expand scaling (some speculation included Timewalking dungeons and raids) but the development team is not ready to talk about them yet.
The dev team is looking at different scaling applications in the old world, and there are a lot of questions like "do people choose to turn it on or off?" "how far does each zone scale?"
Med'an
The Warcraft movie has increased interest in Med'an (eg is he retconned, does he exist in our universe), but the devs would not give a clear answer to that question.
