New Legendary Ranks
There are two new Legendary Ranks that have been added in Patch 9.1. Below are all the ranks and Item Levels for Legendaries.
Rank 1 - Item level 190
Rank 2 - Item Level 210
Rank 3 - Item Level 225
Rank 4 - Item Level 235
Rank 5 - Item Level 250
Rank 6 - Item Level 260
You can compare these new Item Levels to known Item Levels in Patch 9.1.
No Soul Ash Required for New Upgrades
From datamining, we've determined that the Rank 5 and Rank 6 upgrades on the Patch 9.1 PTR do not cost any additional
to upgrade. Legendary Ranks 1 through 4 have their costs unchanged. This means that once a Legendary hits Rank 4, you can use your
to make a different Legendary and there will be a different method to upgrade your Legendary in Patch 9.1.
We've listed the total amount of
listed in the database that is required in order to upgrade your Legendary to each rank on the Patch 9.1 PTR:
Rank 1 (Item Level 190) - 1,250
Rank 2 (Item Level 210) - 2,000
Rank 3 (Item Level 225) - 3,200
Rank 4 (Item Level 235) - 5,150
Rank 5 (Item Level 250) - 5,150
Rank 6 (Item level 260) - 5,150
Because the Rank 5 and Rank 6 total costs in the database are the same as Rank 4, this means that no additional
Upgrading Legendaries in Patch 9.1
So how do you upgrade a Legendary in Patch 9.1? The system is currently not available for testing, so other than
we can only speculate based on the new items and tooltips in this build.
You'll probably need a new higher Rank of a base crafting Item, which will probably obtained from crafting professions again. It seems to be a slightly more involved process this time, especially for Crafters.
A crafter will need to get an amount of
. This item is not currently BoP, which means you can buy it off the Auction House, but the only known source at the moment is Dailies in the Maw, but it's unclear how often it drops or if there are other sources (Thanks to
for finding this current source).
A crafter can then use
to create a
Rudiment der Ursprünge
using a recipe from an unknown source.
Rudiment der Ursprünge
The crafter can then use the
Rudiment der Ursprünge
as an optional reagent to assumingly craft a higher item level base Legendary Item.
This process is definitely more involved for Crafters, which should be rather lucrative since all players will want to upgrade their Legendary! There may be more requirements or steps but this what our current speculation is at the moment.
Conclusion and Thoughts
This is likely a good thing because even if you've completed Torghast every week, you are likely not even close to creating all your Legendaries for your spec. If Patch 9.1 required players to spend more
on higher Rank upgrades for Legendaries, there's no way you be able to craft all the Legendaries you want.
This may also be why the
cap was removed a couple weeks ago, because the
will not be as relevant in Season 2 and Patch 9.1.
will purely be used to craft new Legendaries, rather than upgrading old ones.
Of course, this is subject to change in the future as this is currently datamining on the PTR. Blizzard may decide to readd the
cost if they wish. If the costs change for Legendaries do end up requiring
