The first two weekends of the Mythic Dungeon Invitational showed us the best of China, APAC, Europe and North America. Last weekend, the regions went head to head in the Global Top 8. Check out our recap to learn who was victorious and the top matches.
The Mythic Dungeon Invitational was a huge success for viewership, pulling nearly 60k Twitch viewers during the finals. This surely isn't the last of MDI--in an

, Morgan Day even talked about potential combat resurrection improvements for future tournaments.

The teams that placed 5th-8th received $2,500 USD, the teams that placed 3rd and 4th received $10,000 USD, the team that placed 2nd received $20,000 USD and the winning team received $50,000 USD.
Quarter Finals
Premonition vs MMT
Premonition pulled ahead early on Vault of the Wardens, with MMT experiencing multiple deaths towards the end of the fight against Tirathon. Premonition did have to use their only combat resurrection on their Warrior during the first boss fight, which became troublesome when the Warrior died early against Inquisitor Tormentorum. Despite the DPS loss slowing them down during this boss fight, Premonition stayed ahead and maintained their lead for the entire dungeon by quite a sizeable margin.
Premonition lead by a similar margin throughout the race on Darkheart Thicket, with high healer damage and proficient movement contributing to their victory. Premonition won the series convincingly, with a 2-0 victory.
Honestly vs Team Bigpull
Honestly maintained a small lead against Team Bigpull on Vault of the Wardens. Team Bigpull fell behind after some early deaths and were almost able to catch up, killing Ash'Golm only nine seconds behind Honestly. On their way to Cordana, however, Team Bigpull struggled to drop out of combat with some enemies and the whole team fell. Honestly won the race from here quite comfortably.
Team Bigpull had a stronger run on their dungeon pick, Court of Stars. Despite the race being somewhat close early on, Honestly experienced a team wipe on some mobs before Flamewreath and fell too far behind to catch up.
Team Bigpull started off strongly on Upper Karazhan, defeating Curator one minute and 14 seconds faster than Honestly. Honestly made an impressive comeback, defeating Medivh five minutes and 57 seconds into their run, ahead of the opposing team's six minutes and six seconds. Despite Team Bigpull's slightly better split time on Mana Devourer and Honestly's two deaths on the way to Viz'aduum, Honestly was a phase ahead on the final boss early on and were able to take the series 2-1.
Team MPE vs Free Marsy
Free Marsy took the lead early on Vault of the Wardens, with their high damage on Inquisitor Tormentorum putting them further ahead. Team MPE manage their mob pulls quite well, however their decision to resurrect their Warrior on a boss fight with 3% left was not ideal. Free Marsy were able to win the first race with a clean run.
Team MPE had a much more difficult run on Neltharion's Lair, with two full wipes on Rokmora and many other deaths. Impressively, the Blood Death Knight took the final 19% health from the boss alone. The team continued to struggle, wiping early against Ularogg. Ultimately, Free Marsy's better decision making brought them victory, winning the series 2-0.
Raider.IO vs Friends With Affixes
Raider.IO demonstrated why they were the favourite to win the tournament, with a strong performance against Friends With Affixes. Friends With Affixes struggled with deaths on Vault of the Wardens, eight of which occurred before taking down Tirathon. The team were unable to recover, and Raider.IO won the first race.
Raider.IO were ahead early on Court of Stars, pulling Gerdo first by a large margin. Despite Friends With Affixes catching up towards the end of the dungeon, Raider.IO won the race by one minute and 13 seconds and took the series 2-0.
Semi Finals
Premonition vs Honestly
Premonition pulled Agronox first but due to a full team wipe, Honestly were able to get the first kill. Honestly wiped due the
Explosiv
mechanic not long after this, however it was not as punishing since they had reached a checkpoint and did not have far to run back. Honestly were able to win the first race by 35 seconds.
Premonition were initially behind on Black Rook Hold, but led by five seconds after defeating Illysanna. The team looked very comfortable in this dungeon, and won the race by 26 seconds.
Premonition did not look as relaxed on The Arcway, with a team wipe from Explosive shortly before Nal'tira. They tried to compensate with larger pulls, but this did not always work out in their favour as they continued to struggle with the Explosive mechanic. Honestly took the series 2-1, and was the first team to reach the Grand Final.
Free Marsy vs Raider.IO
After a slow start, Free Marsy took the lead and killed Agronox 10 seconds ahead of Radier.IO due to a team wipe. They continued to surge further ahead, getting Mephistroth to 55% health by the time Raider.IO had defeated Domatrax.
Free Marsy's run through Lower Karazhan was not as successful, with the team falling further behind Raider.IO as time went on.
The race on Maw of Souls was one of the closest matches in the tournament, with the result coming down to the last few percent on Helya. Free Marsy annihilated Ymiron, but Raider.IO took the lead and had drained Harbaron to 8% of his health before Free Marsy pulled the boss. Free Marsy were able to make up for this with larger pulls on the way to Helya. Raider.IO had slightly miscalculated the amount of kills they required to meet their kill percentage and needlessly spent time on extra enemies. Free Marsy took the lead once more and while both teams held Helya at 83% health at one stage, Raider.IO did not have the damage to take the lead. Free Marsy won the series 2-1, making it an all APAC Grand Final.
Grand Final
Honestly vs Free Marsy
The all APAC, all ANZ Grand Final started off shakily with Seat of the Triumvirate, a new dungeon in Patch 7.3. Neither team seemed to have run the dungeon in advance, with observers reporting many people getting their Mythic achievement for the dungeon after the race had completed. Both teams struggled with deaths and full wipes, but Free Marsy struggled the most. The team had accrued 14 deaths before defeating the first boss and wiped several times throughout the race. Honestly surged ahead but were not immune to wipes themselves, wiping with 9% left on L'ura. The team won the race however, taking 43 minutes and 13 seconds to do so.
Free Marsy also struggled on their first dungeon pick, Eye of Azshara. The team almost caught up to Honestly and were only one percent behind on Lady Hatecoil at one stage, however they struggled after some deaths on the boss. Honestly rushed further ahead, winning the race with almost a clean run as their Warlock died in the final seconds.
Free Marsy's second map pick was Halls of Valor, which was reset early because Free Marsy was unable to release their bodies after a team wipe. After this reset, Free Marsy somehow seemed like a different team. They took an early lead, which they maintained throughout the rest of the race. Honestly began to catch up during the boss fights but this wasn't enough, and Free Marsy claimed their first win of the series.
Honestly chose Upper Karazhan for their first dungeon pick and were ahead for most of the match. They began to fall behind as they tried to meet their required kill percentage, and Free Marsy defeated Mana Devourer only three seconds behind them. Both teams then fell at similar times, with Free Marsy requiring assistance to release their bodies again. Honestly wiped a second time, increasing the death penalty differential between the teams. Despite Honestly defeating Viz'aduum first, their deaths cost them the match. Free Marsy won the race with four seconds to spare and tied the series 2-2.
On The Arcway, Honestly was dominating the race until the final boss. Free Marsy completed as much of their kill percentage as early as they could, allowing them to catch up later in the race. Honestly pulled Vandros first, bringing the boss to down to 86% health before Free Marsy's pull. Free Marsy damaged the boss impressively fast, overtaking Honestly at 51%. Although the team did have a slightly easier run with the portal part of the encounter, the team was already ahead (however this could have been influential in a slightly closer race). Free Marsy defeated the Vardros, while on Honestly's side he still had 12% of his health. Free Marsy turned the match and the series around, and are the first winners of the Mythic Dungeon Invitational!
