We've updated our
Gearing up in Battle for Azeroth
guide for patch 8.2: Rise of Azshara and Season 3! Although we still don't have an exact date for 8.2, last week's announcement of
Season 2 ending soon
, and a
release candidate build
on the PTR today means the patch is coming sooner rather than later, so what better time to refresh yourself with all the new and improved sources of gear?
Click here to view the guide!
New Gear in 8.2
Benthic gear
is a new catch up mechanism in Nazjatar, first of the new zones coming with the patch. While the items start as gear tokens like similar systems in the past, the initial 385 item level pieces can be upgraded using a currency obtained from doing activities throughout Nazjatar, increasing the gear first to item level 400, and then all the way up to 425 - a serious boost for those who want to put the time into doing everything the new zone has to offer. Even better, every piece of Benthic gear comes with one of several different unique equip effects! Read all about it in the
Benthic Overview
. Did we mention there are also two new world bosses roaming around?
Mechagon
is the
other
new zone coming in 8.2, with its own set of rares, quests, collectables, and more secrets per square inch than any other area in the game. Along with that, players will obtain a new customizable trinket, the
Rechengerät im Taschenformat
, which can be fit with over 30 different punch cards offering combat procs, stat bonuses, and quirky utility effects. See them all in our
Pocket Sized Punch Card Guide
.
Essences
, while not quite gear, are still going to be big part of power progression in the new patch - with 21 different Essences, four ranks of each, and three slots to use them in, there's going to be a lot to collect, optimize, and strategize around over the coming months. You can get started with our
Essence Guide
detailing all the ranks and drop locations, or start coming up with your own combinations with our
Essence Calculator
.
Once Season 3 starts, two weeks after 8.2, you'll also have...
Azshara's Eternal Palace
, the number one priority for raiders. It features 8 bosses, more azerite, a lot of unique equip effects, interesting trinkets, and everything else you'd expect from a new raid tier, culminating in a fight against Queen Azshara herself. Mythic difficulty will start at item level 445, and you can see all the new shinies in our
Eternal Palace Raid Gear Guide
.
Operation: Mechagon
, an 8 boss mega-dungeon similar to Karazhan from
Legion
, with its own set of challenges and rewards. Like other dungeons, it has weapons, armor, and azerite, but it also features a new system of cause-and-effect set rings: one sets a condition, like
when you attack an enemy from behind
or
use an ability while your health is below 50%
while the other ring will cause an effect such as
then gain Haste for 15 seconds
or
absorb Magic damage for 8 seconds
. You can also get punch cards, items with unique equip effects, new profession recipes, Heart of Azeroth Essences, and some brand new engineering themed transmogs; see them all in our
Operation Mechagon Megadungeon Loot Guide
.
Increasing Item Levels
Aside from all the new gear, virtually every current activity in Battle for Azeroth will drop better rewards in Season 3, to keep up inflation from the new dungeon and raid. This means that...
PvP
World Quests
Daily Emissaries
Faction Assaults
Normal, Heroic, and base Mythic dungeons
Mythic+ Keystones, with a brand new level 10 affix,
Betörend
Warfronts, with a new Heroic difficulty for premade groups
Will all have their rewards increased by ~30 item levels once the season begins. As in Season 2 before, the new content will of course be more lucrative, but this will help keep those activities relevant and benefit new players, those that don't push the hardest content, or alts as they gear up in the new patch.
And More
New crafted gear, potions, and flasks, lots of collectables, secrets, reputations, mount equipment, unlocking Flying... 8.2 is one of the largest patches in WoW history, so even if planning out new gear upgrades isn't that exciting for you, there's are still plenty of other things to get excited about. Check out our 8.2 Hub, the
Rise of Azshara Overview
, for a full detail of all the new places, questlines, collectables, lore, and other features coming in Rise of Azshara.
