Level 1: Allows players to mine Draenic Stone from mineral nodes in Draenor. Draenic Stone can be converted to work orders for Draenor minerals. 7 Work Orders

2 questions:
1 - picking herbs or mining my mine in the garrison raise my skill level?
2 - do i get to loot/skin mobs i capture with the iron traps?

EDIT: another question. When i trap a mob, will it start the work order right away? or have i to go to my garrison's barn to start it?

i dont get it, we can make a herb garden even if we dont have herbalism, but the Draenic Seeds are bop... so how do we get them if we cant gather herbs?

Seems a little lopsided that mining and herbing get guaranteed slots in the garrison, but skinning doesn't.

So for those that have 2 crafting professions, will the barn,mine, and/or herb garden be enough to sustain them?

Doesn't it seem a little off that the herb garden and mine are unlocked at different levels? That's a huge disadvantage for a someone with the a crafting profession that requires herbalism, if they dont also have the herbalism gathering profession. Plus, on the beta, you can gather about 20-40 of each herb from your garden per day, but you can gather 200-400+ of each ore from your mine. Again, big disadvantage for those that need herbs for their primary professions.

I still need to choose a profession to carry out. I'm a level 13 Draenei paladin still around the starting islands and I dunno what's the best skill to take on board?

This is my first time playing WoW and I am on trial mode btw

I'm hoping this Lunarfall Excavation will be a rare and difficult find. If you don't have mining, you shouldn't be able to mine. It seems really unfair. I understand that the ore is used by other professions, but, so are herbs. Letting a person mine for one hour when they don't have mining is just a punch in the chest to miners.

Lol.

This is just like WildStar.
You get your own place.
You can get your own mining excavation site.
You can get your own garden where you pick up plants.

If you are mining, there is a possibility that a mob spawns that grant a lot of mining loot, same with herbalism.

Everything mentioned above is in WildStar!

Not that there is anything wrong with that, it only shows that the WildStar devs were actually on the right path, they were doing the right thing, and WoW devs finally saw that and took action quite fast.

I am looking forward to the new expansion for WoW :)

Does anybody have experience with successfully mining ore from the garrison mine WITHOUT having mining as a profession?...Outside of work orders?

"The Lunarfall Excavation Level 1 allows players to mine nodes in the Garrison if they have Mining or not."

As Engi/JC on main and on a mission to level him, any and all feedback would be great as there doesnt appear to be an abundance of info on the topic and it states in the guide. tia

I have a Tailor who now seems to require an Herbal agent. How do I get my Garrison to provide it if the herb garden doesn't come online until I'm lvl 96? Doesn't that mean I'm gonna be playing catch-up for my last few levels and so will NEVER be able to use any of my creations myself? Is this going to be an epic fail just like Vanilla, BC and WotLK?

gathering professions seem pretty useless now.

i have so much ore which i can't use cause of the daily cds and limited workorders.

furthermore i guess that for blacksmithing and jewelcrafting the lvl2 mine is enough to have enough ore, you only can use:

blacksmithing
20 true iron
10 blackrock ore
5 true iron ore

forge
6*5 true iron ore

jewelcrafting
5 blackrock ore
20 blackrock ore
10 true iron ore

gem boutique
6*5 blackrock ore

-> 65 true iron ore + 65 blackrock ore
which you get from your mine + mine work orders

i guess it's the same for other professions so i see no use for gathering professions anymore (even the small bonuses are gone (e.g..: stamina for mining))

As of WoD, you can now skin anything from level 1 skinning.

I'm a little confused at why you would need gathering professions at this point. All of my (max leve) toons can get enough mats from the garrison alone, wouldn't it be more efficient to have two production skills (ie leatherworking and engineering for hunter)?

All my lower toons are gonna level this way (my maxes are gonna hold on to their gathering skills in case they change it next xpack) but I don't really see if there's anything I'm really missing out on.

I have 3 characters with garrisons currently: a skinner/leatherworker, miner/blacksmith, and enchanter/tailor. The leatherworker and tailor each have a barn, which produces more than enough raw materials to fuel their daily cooldowns and keep work orders flowing around the clock. I suspect that a single mine would produce enough ore to keep my blacksmith going, and obviously with three, I have ore coming out of my ears. I haven't leveled my scribe or alchemist to 90 yet, but I'm not concerned at all about having enough herbs by then, since I have multiple stacks of each already.

I'm rarely, if ever, mining or skinning out in the world. Really, the only time I do it is to gather raw materials to make lower-level stuff (e.g. engineering recipes). So like others, I find myself thinking that having gathering professions is a complete waste now, at least at max level. The best I can think of is flying around low level zones gathering materials to sell, but that just sounds dull.

It appears to me that skinning is the fastest profession for felblight gathering, along with fishing.

I had switched over to no gathering at my 6.1 garrison after seeing that I had a steady supply of crafting mats wo gathering, as others have done.

My main who is a hunter, has gone back to skinning after I crafted all the Hexweave I had saved up tailoring into a dozen or more bags.

I wondered how skinning would compare to mining and herbalism for felblight. I just leveled up a Horde alt who was a miner/blacksmith and jumped over to Tanaan shortly after hitting L100. (had several BOA baleful gear pieces to ease the transition).

Mining produces no where near as many felblights as skinning, although the drop rate seems about the same. But for skinning, you can find areas where npc skinnable animals constantly respawn. I haven't found an area like that for minerals yet, nor haven't seen one for herbs.

So, I've made my hunter my designated felblight gatherer for all my Alliance alts. My Horde alt is on his own and I'm thinking about dropping mining as a gathering profession and switching him to skinning also. It would be nice to have a variety of gathering professions while questing but skinning seems to be far and away the best.

Finding an area to skin where there is water with pools of Felmouth Frenzy regularly spawning is the way to maximize felblight.

You can increase the speed of your Herbalism with Gorepetal's Gentle Grasp (from a cave on the coast in far North-East Nagrand), and your mining with Peon's Mining Pick (from the mountains just North of Southport in Spires).

These work even for your garrison mining and herbalism, so there a must have for every alt.

Such a nice guide which have stood for all Warlords of Draenor and yet not a single mentioning of the 2 "must have" items, Peon's Mining Pick found in this area, and Gorepetal's Gentle Grasp dropped by Gorepetal in this cave.
