Which realm is best for....

How do I choose which realm is best for me and my guild to move to for a better shot at recruiting and a better more active community? How can I find out about a realm's activity without having to roll a new toon in that realm and scouting it myself?
My guild, Legion of Drewcifer, got started in the humble quiet realm of Kirin Tor(RP), which was fine for this start, but we've quickly realized that the auction house might not stack up to one on a higher populated server, and a lot of the members find KT to be pretty desolate compared to previous experiences.
So how do I find a new home for my fledgling guild to grow? We'd like to find "New" players, or at least new toons, without having to go to a "New Players" server.
Any suggestions?

You can always go to actual realm forums on the official site to ask question and see if their forums are active. As well as looking at specific realms on
www.wowprogress.com
. There you can sort servers to EU and US and also have them show which side is more prominent on the server and see how well some of the guilds have progressed.

I'm completely aware of that, however, on the network I'm on right now, that site is blocked... so I was hoping the Wowhead community could lend me a hand. Thank you anyways.

See, I'm in the military, they block our ^&*! and Battle.net is blocked, along with Facebook, Twitter, etc. Strangely Wikipedia and Youtube aren't blocked.... weird.

Looking at Wowprogress, i'm curious as to how acurate or timely their data is, considering it lists my server, Kirin Tor which is an RP server, as PVP. There is no date or "data last updated dd/mm/yy" type info on the page made immediately visible.

No need to triple post, you can just edit your last response to add more stuff in.
As for how accurate they are, the realm type may not be right but all the raiding data should be fine, as long as players accurately update it. I also thought it was blocked? Guess it was either unblocked or you found a way around the filter.
Yes there should be last updated for each individual guild and their progress, it will say "Last full updated ## hours/days/months ago" on their page. Also make sure you're looking at the right one, the US KT is PvP while the EU is marked RP. I'm not sure which you are since you haven't said, but maybe that can help.

Silvermoon is a great server for horde and alliance. If you roll on our server and go Alliance...yeahhh

A site like this
http://www.warcraftrealms.com/realmstats.php
might be helpful. However, take those results for what they're worth, they should be used as a ballpark figure, not actual numbers. Those numbers are gathered by the community using a UI addon, not official blizzard server data.
I play on Illidan, and the numbers it shows seem fairly reasonable. It is a super high population server, that
HEAVILY
favors the horde. You almost never see Alliance anywhere.
Current Illidan Info from that site
Alliance Update ~ 2012-3-4
Horde Update ~ 2012-3-1
Online Date: 2004-12-30

Total Horde: 41,125 - 97%

Activity Ratio: 1 : 22.5

A new (and better for me) is
http://wow.realmpop.com/
they dig the population via API.
1st they get all chars that publish in the AH, then for every char, retrieve the guild data (via API too) and get the numbers.
