For me the one thing Blizzard could do would be to have an unlock system.
Naxx unlocks Uld, Uld unlocks TotC, TotC unlocks ICC and so on, would it solve the problem altogether, probably not, but it might instill a little more raid awareness in a player, instead of just handing them their gear with emblems and unleashing them on unsuspecting groups.
To me this sounds the a very workable solution to overcoming various problems with the current raid setup. Whilst gear isn't the be all and end all and skill will always triumph over gear, you do need to have a certain level of gear to be able to do certain content. Rather than hand out tokens or whatever for completing 5-mans that are now ridiculously under-tuned for the current item level most players have, making the older raids unlock the newer raids would make it so that people, who due to life commitments can't raid regularly, can still run old content with guildies etc.
The way the current system works is that nobody touches the older raids anymore except to pick up an extra 5 badges once per week. To gear up a guildie for the latest content is nigh on impossible if the guild is still progressing due top raid lockouts etc. with this system people would still be running the older content levelling up guildies.
That doesn't mean someone with a sporadic schedule can't progress - the best bet is to become a social in a raid guild and join guild pugs and the alt run, or to join one of the highly exclusive, highly efficient pugs every server has. But then again, if they say someone's not up to par, invariably that person will have some sort of excuse why it can't be helped they chose not to do what the non-bad casuals in the run managed to do.
I totally agree with Aestu on this point and this is what I personally do. I work in the services so my schedule is very sporadic with me being able to play regularly for a few weeks/months and then maybe not getting online again at all for maybe 4 or 6 months. When I am online and a spot is available for my class I am invited to come along other times I just have to sit and cheer the guild on from the sidelines.

Once again, Aestu brings up valid points, someone can't accept them, ignores them, inc name calling with terrible sarcasm and veiled insults.
All Aestu is saying is that you are not a casual. You cannot be a casual if you are progressing into end-game content - because by definition - casuals do not have time to commit to this game. You have set aside time to play this game and progress, that makes you just like me, Aestu, or any other who's commented on this thread.
The difference is, you try and hide your inadequacy behind real-life issues, rather than looking at yourself and asking what separates
you
from
him
besides just gear. AoA raids 3 days a week, one more day than your own, and yet they have 25m H LK killed and on farm. Why don't you? Why are you not able to do the harder bosses in the game in your limited time like I am?
The fact that you try and say, "well I have a life and you don't, lulz" is complete BS, and anyone with a brain knows it.
Regarding myself, the reason I don't have H LK killed is simple: myself, and my guild,
simply is not good enough for the encounter.
Will we be there one-day? Possibly, but it isn't likely. I openly know when someone is a better player than me - but what makes you a far
worse
player, is your attitude that real-life somehow prevents you from being among the best,
when you're no where near close.

So what i havent downed as many heroic bosses as you have? I outperform my gear level on a consistent basis
Yea if i didnt have my son and college and work on the two days that group one goes i would already have that down as well.
This is also taking a six month hiatus from the game period and deactivating my account.
I used to be a leetist or whatever and thought i was pretty hot stuff, I despised the fact that casuals were able to get so much in game, then, well i went back to college got a promotion at work, and got married.
Looks to me that you're saying that "having a life" is holding you back.
We're saying it isn't; it's your own lack of skill.
If it irks you that me a casual will probably down Heroic LK before you do..... well sorry, find a new game.
Also, you won't.
Stop dodging the rest of my, and Aestu's points, thanks.

"Oy Vey"...this thread is still going!
Let me jump into the fire with just some quick shots.
If someone who doesn't play WoW asked me to describe the social experience of WoW, what the playerbase is like, I would definitely reply, "In my opinion, most people who play WoW are human scum." Not all, certainly, but the overwhelming majority, and I think the character of the game, the general culture, with "anal" spam in trade chat, constant gay jokes, elitism (false or otherwise), e-thuggery and general immaturity reflects the attitudes of the majority of those who play it.
Aestu...seriously...you need help...or a considerable bump on the head. I'm not saying the game doesn't have its detractors..but to lump them in with the majority of people who I have found to be of fine quality...makes me wonder if you ever real talk to people in this game or do you spend your time arguing in trade chat and yelling in raid vent. My guilds atmosphere became so enjoyable that we even had musical evening where members would play instruments to pleasure of the whole guild and play them well...we had a young lady who would play the piano for us after every raid..it was marvelous. Perhaps in your relentless drive to reach the top in this game...you have forgotten to stop and smell the roses and have some how found your way to associating with the minority and think that's all there is.
As for that eternally idiotic statement of WoW players having no life...life is what you choose it to be...making decisions seeking the approval of other people, that's when a person really has no life of their own.
For the posters who talk about not being able to put in the same time as everyone else. I fall into the same category..but I don't begrudge people that can, nor do I want any charity because of it.
This game is what it is...achieving contents requires success, there are different formulas to that end. But you have to choose one of them. I liken it to someone who leaves a baseball game in the 7th inning because he has to get up early the next morning for work. You can understand if that person beefed about always missing a great ending. But if that same person wants baseball to make the game only 7 innings so he can be there for the end...well then that's a another
matter. I personally don't want blizz to dilute contents just because people don't have the time for it(which includes myself at the moment). I try to find a happy medium in this game. Progression/socialization.
I don't let numnuts in this game define my success.
I always accept my place in progression as an achievement where ever it is. Unless your able to commit to the rigorous scheduling of raid guilds and maintain a constant roster, a person may never see such contents as heroic 25man LK, but not downing Heroic LK 25man doesn't diminish anything a player has accomplished and anyone who says otherwise should just simply be dismissed...works for me :P
Once more though I think this thread has strayed very far from the original posters.
He was talking about pugging. I believe to paraphrase, he was seeking at least a minimum degree of ability/success from players before they could pug into ICC.
