Note: I learned English myself from the net, so sorry if some of this doesn't make sense.
Now, this is something that struck me recently. I've been an impulsive WoW gamer since 2/3rds of vanilla. Sometimes i get borderline bored and quit wow. I did always come back thought. My payment history lists about 6 or 7 months off WoW since the end of 2006.
See, since the launch of Cata I was a bit bored. I'm not really an achievement hunter, i played A LOT on my alts. I have 10 characters on Hellfire EU over level 70. Most 80+... So, one fine day in January 2011 my game time ran out. I thought to myself... "F**k it!" and simply deleted WoW from my system. Poof, just like that. To be honest, I didn't even feel the need to come back.
Now, I am quite the geek. It's probably not the addiction that gets me to play games on the PC, it's mostly to do with the fact that I simply don't have anything else worthwhile to do and I'm a bit "scared" to pick up a hobby, thinking i'd be forcing myself to do something I may not like, making me feel bad in the end anyway.
Now, these couple few days for some reason i've been going on the battlenet forums, reading a bit up, because of boredom mostly, and I just want to play a bit for the kicks of it.
Now this up there is mostly the reason i came here. I don't really know any gamer in real life to consult, so I figured i'd ask you guys (or gals, of course).
Should I come back and waste my time on this game or should i pick up a worthwhile hobby or a sport
, seeing how if I come back i'd probably play for a good while and i wouldn't have time or dedication to do anything besides playing Wow, seeing how i'll have a full time job in a week or 2.
Should I ignore this impulse to come back and play WoW?
Now, don't confuse this with addiction calling me back. ;) It's just that i'm bored and would for example love to play a BG or 2 on my 80 mage, or try to level up an alt or something. I'd probably get bored again though.
TL;DR: WoW or Hobby/Sport for Summer?

I don't understand how people can't manage to do both ? Lead an active lifestyle and continue play the game you love? Don't tell it can't be done because I am doing it..
I play Co-Ed sports, I work out , full time job and I still manage to play WOW and Raid?

What I have never understood about these posts is that asking a wow message board if one shoud play wow is like asking a bunch of people at a bar if you should drink.
If you want to play play it, if you don't don't. Trust me nothing has changed. There have been tweeks, new gear and different excuses to mash your buttons but the basic game is unchanged, GO kill things, get better gear so you can go kill things and get better gear so you can go kill things.

Try it, then decide. Give it a go for like a week or so.

It's already too late, he's come to the boards for advice! Naw seriously, the boards are what fuel the addiction. I quit from time to time as well, due to lack of content, not enough time in my life, etc. If I find myself doing other things and not logging on much during the month then I generally suspend my account and just take a break.
Breaks are a good thing for WoW, as it lets you reset sorta and after a while you kinda want to play again. I generally wait as long as I can until I can't stand not playing and then jump back in. If it becomes boring for that month I'm back, I re-suspend my account.
It's not really a big issue and some people make it out to be a bigger decision than it is. As others have said, you either play or don't. You coming here basically begging people for reasons why you should come back kinda shows which decision you will probably make.

Kid, life is way to short for you to be "scared" to try new things. If you adapt that attitude, you'll never experience a lot of new things you may end up liking. You'll just be a scared turtle, never leaving your own comfort zone and never fully experiencing life. Get out there man! As the latin phrase goes, Carpe Diem, Seize the Day!

Do what you feel like doing. Thats just the wisest rule to live by anyway. Just start playing, if it isnt fun, dont do it. Its really that simple.

I take breaks every 6 months or so. When I feel like playing Wow again I do what I'm about to suggest:
Resub for a month, if at the end of that month you don't feel like playing, let sub run out again.
