If it is a normal raid I would probably stick it out but LFR, I say leave after any boss you want. Will get replaced quickly enough by the finder tool

It's polite to stay in a normal, or at least tell the group up front you're leaving after a certain boss, but it's not a bannable offense to bail.

Normal: Try not to ditch. It won't get you banned but it might lower your reputation with the realm community.
LFR: This depends. I personally try to stick it out, but if I reach a boss I already "looted" that week, then yes, I just ditch.

as people said, normal it is very polite to stay till the end, and on LFR leave whenever you want.
reasons: normal raids its harder to replace someone who leaves. you have to go back to town, sit in trade, and unless it was a dps could easily take 5 or more minutes to replace, by which point another person or two will get lazy and just leave causing you to find more, and a nice domino effect occurs causing the group to have to call it. In LFR that problem doesn't exist because it automatically finds someone for you, and the place is so easy its rediculous, and with a half decent group you could probably do most bosses with 15-20 people as long as you have the tanks and at least a few of the healers.

Obligation is to strong of a word for what we are discussing. Lets say courtesy. No one is forcing you to run LFR more than once per week, you can only loot bosses once a week anyway. If you get pulled into a group that is passed the first boss you are closer to finishing the run. Now if you needed something off the boss that was missed, correct me if I am wrong here, isn't DS in LFR split up into 2 sections. If you signed up for Seige of Wrymrest you do the first 4. Whats another 2 or three bosses, that you have already downed. Now dont get me wrong the are things that come up to where you have to leave, and if it becomes a wipe fest there really is no reason for staying.
Do you think about what your saying, the average lfr group takes 15mins a boss give or take (trash, brief explaination, complaining about dps below tanks, ect.) so what your really saying is whats an extra 30 - 45 mins. Well I don't know about you but thats enough time to cook a meal for dinner, have 3 beers several smokes, drive @ speed limit 75km's.
Or you could sit through 2 or 3 pointless bosses that you have no need for when you could leave and someone could fill your spot in a matter of seconds...
Which seems the better option?
