For those who don't know this instance is east of Childwild post in Western Plaguelands ( WPL ) . lvl 57+ with cool gear .
If you are good at pulling, you are good at this instance.
Aside from Darkmaster Gandling and Alexei Barov, all you have to do is pull one or two people at a time throught the whole instance, and if you are careful, you can easily get through this instance only killing 2/3s of the monsters. Just pull with a ranged weapon, and make sure you time it right. DONT rush into things. Believe me, thats how you wipe. Rattlegore is ANNOYING but if you have a good tank he is pretty easy. This is Very do-able with 3-4 casters only. Just have a warlock "Tank" with his Voidwalker, and let him get agro for a sec. Then, DPS HARD. they should go down pretty fast if you are pulling only a few at a time.
For those who dont know Scholomance is originally based apon an old Transilvanian myth where "Scholomance" was school on an island in the middle of a lake in which every year 5 people would enter and be taught everything there is to know by non other than the Devil himself. Well 1 of these 5 people would not leave every year cause the devil would keep one for well obvious purposes. The defender of the school was told to be a dragon which rested at the bottem of the lake around the island.
Just a little insight into a true Scholomance myth.
*possiblity of mistakes in lore*
@ level 70
easily cleared with a rogue & mage
Solo'd at level 60 Pre-BC.
Level 60 Warlock.
Today I went here solo as a 70 warrior with good success. Was able to eliminate Rattlegore, Jandice, Marduk, Vectus, Ras, the Ravenian, Illucia Barov, and Lorekeeper Polkelt.
My gear is so-so - still wearing a few greens and a couple old-world epics. I couldn't beat Jandice without using Recklessness. The fight with Ravenian was really close. Otherwise, the bosses I took out didn't present much of a challenge.
I summoned Kirtanos, got him down to about 20% health, and decided not to try again; it's definitely a winnable fight, though. Krastinov carved me up like the black knight. I'm sure Instructor Malicia would have gone down easily, but being magic-impaired as I am, the scholomance cultists guarding her created an impasse. I didn't try Alexei Barov, as the first two guards in his room were strong enough to send me to the graveyard (I screwed up fighting them though); a priest or paladin, at least, could surely solo Alexei, but I don't suppose any warriors will be doing it.
- Ranthen (Elune)
Am able to solo most of the content as a 70 feral druid, dps/tank cross gear.
Haven't tried summoning Kirtanos yet.
Janice is a bitch. I can get her down to 10% before dying with frenzied regen and pot, but the million copies take their toll on me.
Rattlegore is solo-able if I can pull it without his add (easy, just have to wait until its farthest away and then moonfire)
Ras is a joke and drops 2 shards for me
Every boss except for Lorekeeper is a piece of cake. The only reason Lorekeeper is a problem is because of the room of 347634 zombies, but it would be easy if you have a way to remove the disease they inflict.
The interesting part is the Darkmaster. If you want to fight this guy then you have to clear EVERYTHING in the six rooms, or you WILL die. If you solo this guy, he is going to teleport you to the different rooms. He'll then run after you, aggroing the the non-elites that spawn when you get ported. Yes, they will continue to spawn. They hardly hit at all, but it can get very annoying as the fight goes on (they hit for about 6-10 when roared on my bear, but after 3 minutes you'll be dealing with at least 12+ adds, and it will continue to go up). The fight will actually take around 4-5 minutes at least, so be prepared for a long bout with him. And if you didn't clear all the elites before fighting the Darkmaster, be prepared to die. It will probably be too much for you since you'll end up porting into each room and will aggro a few things you left over.
Solo'd it with enhance shammy with T4 / equivelants gear. Just be careful to pull 1 pack at a time, because even at 70 they all hit pretty hard. The only mobs I struggle d with were the caster mobs before Instructor Malicia, they have bolts and "shock" spells and can reduce your HP very, very quickly and before you notice you are dead :) At low HP they transform into shades which can only be killed by magic attacks, so rogues / warriors, beware.
The fastest way to Scholomance from Stormwind. Is to fly first to Aerie Peak (Hinterland) and then walke ore ride true Plaguemist Ravine. The rute starts at 25:46. Its no mobs a long the ravine.
lvl 70 hunter
first time in this instance. never entered it before and i have cleared all bosses except kirtonos.
the reason i havent tried him out yet is the blood of innocents doesn't drop for me. thought i can loot it off jandice barov or gandling but there was none.
i didnt have the key though. just lockpicked it with my rogue from another account. is the key necessary to loot blood of innocents or do i have to do some quests to have it drop for me all the time?
get in without the key:
you and a friend duel outside
the one who loses has to run to the top and jump off so you die
(be as close to the door as you can)
and then run back and rez behind the door and let everybody in
I got in at lvl 48 for a twink run dunno if you can get in lower
Soloed with a 70 enhance shaman 0/40/21.
I'm pretty geared and in pvp gear as well. I didn't get crit much and bosses weren't much of a struggle. The hardest part was fighting multiple mobs so I avoided most of the trash. I wiped once on a 61 elite Risen Construct in Rattlegore's room because I didn't take it seriously enough, but otherwise wasn't in too much danger. It took me about 1 hr and 20 min and altogether I made 60g on coin and vended BoPs. If you're 70 and tired of other farming spots try this out. It's tough and fun but it can be done. Now on to Stratholme!
Suarez - Darkspear
It's very easy as a rogue using S1 arena gear to take down every boss in the instance.
However, you'll need to invite a caster friend to get the last boss to appear because some of the trash mobs turn immune to magic and you must kill these or he won't spawn.
I've tried Scholo with my lvl 70 Arcane/Fire mage
I had the blood of innocents so i tried to kill Kirtonos, i wiped in like 5 hits... :(
I'm 3/8 epic and rest is all blue (D3 stuff etc)
The mobs themselves were not a problem, but i suggest that a cloth class( except warlocks cause they nerfed ^^) take another one with them :) cause as mage it is hard to grind the place :)
just a small warning if be sure you check out the rewards for the quests in the outlands because you might get the item you want from here and then replace it a few levels later when you reach outlands and all that time and work will be a waste!
70 BM hunter 3/5 t5 and ssc/tk items
easy to clear ,died on rattlegore because i pulled an extra add..but still easy
not alot of money, but some nice items for alt:P
could you run this with a 57 shadow spec preist healin ina group?
What does the usable torch in Jandice Barov's room do? I pulled it myself and could'nt see anything happen.
I solo'd Gandling last week as a Lv 70, mid Kara Geared Hunter. I fully expected for myself or pet to be transported, however tanked and spanked the entire fight as normal. - No teleport.
A month prior to that, a Pally friend and i were in and each of us got teleported one after the other. Came back to find my pet carrying on like the good soldier he is, all by himself. I just let him get on with it, hit mend pet and he finished Gandling off.
It's worth mentioning that if you're trying to solo Gandling, you need to kill the trash in one of the rooms, the thrash that gets immune to physical attacks, to get Gandling to spawn.
When you fight him and he teleports you, he drags all the mobs in the rooms with him if you haven't killed them.
I have a level 70 full epic druid and I can solo this place full clear in under an hour, Walking out with on avrage 40g+ Not to mention the blue boes/shards/green/demats/and vendor junk. Well worth the gear check to do, I have never died in here, And if you are good enough like me you can Sell runs to people for 45+Gold
Soloed on a 70 Retribution Paladin, Wearing all PVP gear (All Vindicator stuff, some S3, some S2, S1 weapon) Was no trouble at all. The only boss that posed a threat was Doctor Theolen Krastinov. He attacks fast, hurts a lot, and enrages. He also does some stuns, making healing a bit difficult. But, a couple heals and a Bubble + bandage + heal and quick work was made of him. The last boss was a joke, since he tries to cast spells most of the time you resist like 80% of them and take very little damage.
The trash mobs are no trouble either, just be sure you don't aggro a bunch of them on accident.
As a rogue you can solo this.
To kill the physical immune shades build up 5 combo points and 5 stacks of deadly poison using shiv. Then burn them to shade form. Watch the poison icon and once you are down to the last poison tic use envenom. This should either kill the shade or bring them to between 1-5% health. At this point you will need to have either some EZ-throw Dynamite II or Strat Holy Water. One shot from either of these will finish the shade.
It is REALLY important that you not try to take two at a time, b/c you will most likely not be able to kill them both without waiting for the holy water to cooldown. So in groups with two shades, sap is your friend.
Don't try to solo this as a protection warrior (lvl70). Everything is a walk in the park, until you hit those Dark Shades (Occultists), which are immune to physical damage. Or you should bring a stockload of non-engineering grenades with you...
You might try to burst damage them down as well (since they transform at ~30%), something I wasn't able to, despite full s3 pvp gear and a big, whopping 2h
easy solo as 70 feral druid, im using tank / dps crossing gear ((tough gear is bout to be meant for T6 even)) only boss there to bring slight troubles is rattlegores hard hits , other r *!@#-easy go
n...jandice barrow ofc...w/o aoe those ghost r painful go
Last night I decided to try to clear Scholo as a level 70 Arms, PvP-geared Warrior. I made no gear changes except for swapping out my PvP trinket for Berserker's Call.
Most of the instance was a complete joke difficulty-wise. Sweeping Strikes/Cleave/Whirlwind was very important in clearing the zone. Rattlegore and the Ravenian hit like sissies on plate, and I resisted most of the caster mobs/bosses spells. Only Jandice threatened my health for some reason, but still dropped her with about 4K remaining.
WARNING TO ALL WARRIORS LOOKING TO SOLO THIS INSTANCE --- if you want to kill Darkmaster Gandling, you need to kill the 6 "minibosses" that surround him, AS WELL AS all of the mobs in Instructor Malicia's room. Why is this significant to a warrior? Because the Occultist mobs in there turn into "Dark Shade" around 35-50% health, which are 100% immune to physical attacks.
At first I thought I was out of luck, and became sad that I wouldn't be able to "summon" Gandling. But then I gave one last effort to kill one and I learned that you CAN kill them as a warrior with heavy burst damage. I'd auto attack them down to 50-60% and then pop Death Wish, queue up Heroic Strike and then MS/WW and hope I get a couple of crits and take it from 50% to 0% in a second. Doing that, you can kill it before it can turn into a Dark Shade. This was trial and error though, and I probably ran out of the instance to reset the pull about 10 times before I was able to kill them all. I had a lot of 2-10% Dark Shades after trying to burst down the Occultist.
So the bottom line is that it's not practical for a Warrior to solo the instance through Gandling. Not unless there's some item you can use for heavy "magic" damage on each of the Occultists. But you can easily clear the entire instance, solo, minus Gandling.
Just some tips what to be prepared for:
Clothies / Magic users:
- Magic IMMUNE. You'll need to melee it down or use the
Wand of Eternal Light
or the healing wand from the Sunwell Plateu trash. These wands got Holy damage and does damage to these mobs. The mobs got ca 2000 hp and hits fast (about 100 damage each hit). The Wand of Eternal Light does about 100 damage to the Aberration.
Doctor Theolen Krastinov
- Hits hard. This boss hits for about 500 damage each hit, and he hits really fast. Especially after he enrages. Some recommended items:
and lots of stamina.
The mobs in
room. - Immune to melee attacks after their health is down to 30%. Items that might help: A friend,
, something that does magic damage, like a combat pet. It also seems like deadly poison and envenom works on these mobs. Or you could just skip them and run straight to the boss. She won't aggro the room.
This is not a "I R GOD!" instance. You will get killed unless you're careful.
There are a couple different tactics you can use as a Warrior against the Dark Shades. I've found that the
Petrified Lichen Guard
is quite weak against them, but there are other tools you can use.
My favourite is the
only usable once every 10 minutes. It does a ton of damage, and most likely will take down a single shade from 50% to 0% by the time it fades/dies from Shadowbolt Volley.
If you're an engineer, you can bring any type of bomb, it works as the magic damage to take down their HP.
Darkmoon Card: Vengeance
Defender of the Timbermaw
; Works, but not worth using as it dies after one single shadowbolt volley
What doesn't work:
Romulo's Poison Vial
Darkmoon Card: Maelstrom
Essence of the Pure Flame
Oil of Immolation
Shard of the Fallen Star
Fetish of Chitinous Spikes
Ramstein's Lightning Bolts
There's also a way to reset the guys if you mess up, and it involves jumping in water (that's all I'm gonna give you.) :]
Hi all i'm a 71 warrior with the dark moon cards crusade and wrath and i want to know if you have disenchant and run this instance after selling and killing every thing in here what amount of gold did you make
money from killing mobs
I've run Scholomance about 20 times, skipping only one boss you make about 10-15g solely from mobs, and about 40-50g from drops. Assuming you have about 40 slots free, you can expect to make 50-65g in a single run. Just make sure you have a lot of room.
Skipping that very same boss, you can make about 1100 or so Argent Dawn Reputation every run, as long as you have your
Argent Dawn Commission
Ok so don't be brilliant and attack the students >.> this is a bad idea even if you are a full group of 70+
This is kind of a strange comment and something someone might have noticed, but that symbol on the rug in Darkmaster Gandling's room, it looks like the Shinigami symbol from Bleach.... yeah kinda weird but w/e. thats what i noticed.
since no1 has put it up yet the rep for a complete run of scholomance is around 2750 not including scourgestones. the amount of stones i end up with is:
50-70 invaders scourgestones.
40-50 minions scourgestones.
11 corruptors scourgestones. (all bosses including kirtanos.)
scholo is easy to run for rep at 80 for the argent champion achievement. takes around 20mins for a full run im a dk frost specc'd but i use dps gear ofc.
also easy to get kirtanos if u do the quest outside of the doors to scholo...kill the butcher, hand in, kill jandice, hand in. then u get the blood as part of that quest.
enjoy, and i hope this helps some people.
Well.. Yeah, it does help. But if you after Argent Dawn reputation you should move on up to Stratholme. Which offers around 5k reputation a run, if you include the scourgestones and stuff. Also net around 100g a run :D
I went in there today to get the achivement. Look about 45 minutes with me and a prot warrior. Probably one of my favorite old school instances.
Note that you dont just have to kill the 6 bosses at the end to summon the last boss, allso the adds at the cambers are needed.
Hope its usefull.
alright i just soloed this as an 80 unholy dk tank in full tanking gear
very easy also quick cash
from the instance and drops i made about 150g and it took me about 1hr so id recommend doing teh quest for the key pretty simple imo
i died once and it wasnt even on a boss(i just accidently pulled a big ass room)
ALSO ITS GUY LOVE BETWEEN 2 GUYS
Just did it 4 man without a healer but 70 warrior i found it very easy with all of the aoe.
i solo it once a day on my 80 prot warrior for de mats and rep, then i run over to strat and do the undead side for the shot at barons mount..both very easy at 80 in my heroic/naxx 10 gear mix. Never tryed to solo it with my hunter but imagine it would be fairly easy with him too(hes only used for raiding i farm with the warrior)
On my level 80 Feral Druid I am able to do a full clear in about 25-35 min. My net total of gold from vendors, keep runecloth for the AH, is an average of 100g. I highly recommend you bring a level 52-62 to loot and leach exp. so you can make the run even faster. The instance can be cleared in under 15 min total if you ignore loot.
This is a great sorce of runecloth for leveling up skills, rep or to make some easy few gold.
If you're going just for reputation with the Argent Dawn if you kill everything you get:
Has anybody noticed that Scholomance, even before WoTLK, seems to have the 3 specializations of the Death Knights? Hall of the Damned could be a reference to the Blood, Chamber of Secrets to Frost, and the Vault of Ravenian could represent Unholy. Or it could just be coincidence, but it would be too much coincidence...
Has any one noticed that they put pumpkins in caer darrow, does any one know why they did that?
Truth be told, this place is RIDICULOUSLY easy to solo (if you know what the hell you're doing), but what level of lockpicking is the door outside the instance? Some of us have full inventories with no room to strip down ._.
Oh and to RipperGand: Those are basically the three schools of study in necromancy as a whole. Unholy power in all things, blood as a powerful reagent, and the chill of death. You'll notice that many acolytes of the Scourge use frost and shadow spells, and diseases attack the blood of anyone alive.
And yeah, what's with the jack o' lanterns?
just wondering, how many scourgestones ( any kind) do you get on a single full run?
to get in, when you're boosting a friend, simply duel him on the "west" side of the entrance/metting stnoe, there is a campfire..
duel each other, loser ends up on 1 hp, stands on the campfire, dies, and runs back behind the door, resses and opens :)
I like guides that give room names so I can ensure that I am not getting lost and I can print them out and have them next to my computer so I can lead a group well. Also if I am helping someone get as may quests done in one day and we want to get to certain areas and skip those not yet needed. For that reason I wrote this one up.
After going through the instance gate you enter into an area that of a type of bridge with an iron gate guarded by 4 Skeleton Warriors. After eliminating the warriors and opening the gate you will be entering The Reliquary. This area is where the Blood Steward of Kirtonos resides and where the Blood of Innocents drops. If you want to by-pass most of this room, go left down the stairs to the gate. You will now be entering the Chamber of Summoning which has an alcove or terrace area that holds the Brazier of the Herald. This is where the Blood of innocents is needed to summon Kirtonos.
When you have completed clearing your way to the gate at the opposite end of the Chamber of summoning the next room you enter has no special designation but which I will refer to as the Main Room. There are 3 doorways that open from this room, an open doorway, 1 gated and 1 that appears to be parts of the wall covered with tapestry banners. The doorway is on the right side when looking into the middle of the room is the wall type and leads to Janice Barov. She does drop a tailoring pattern but also if you go down the right side of the room, in the corner is a torch that turns. This does allow access to an Old Treasure Chest that is now available to access in another area of the instance. I have usually found 2 greens in this chest.
When going back to the Main Room you now want to proceed to the open doorway that is the Great Ossuary. This room has another doorway at the far end of the room that you need to go through to get to the lower level and the Bone Room, where Rattlegore is located. You must kill him to obtain the Viewing Room Key that is needed to proceed past the 3rd gate back in the Main Room.
The 3rd gate in the Main Room is not locked but other than the small room on the right that holds the Old Treasure Chest there is a locked door that requires you to have the Viewing Room Key to proceed. After opening this door you will have entered the Viewing Room which has 2 gates. On the opposite side of the room is another gate that leads to The laboratory and Ras Frostwhisper.
The other gate on the left leads to the Headmaster’s Study. There are 6 smaller rooms, 3 per level. On the upper level starting on the left going clockwise is:
The Hall of Secrets – Lorekeeper Polkelt
The Hall of the Damned – Doctor Theolen Krastinov
The Coven – Instructor Malicia
The lower level again starting on the left and going clockwise are:
The Shadow Vault – Lady Illucia Barov
Barov Family Vault – Lord Alexi Barov
Vault of Ravenian – The Ravenian
Once all these 6 minor bosses are killed the Instance Boss “The Headmaster” will appear in the Study Area or center of the lower area of this section of the instance.
I pick up everything and make sure I take my Spectral Essence trinket that lets me speak with a vendor in the blacksmith area of Caer Darrow to sell excess greys or unwanted Soulbound items. This trinket is available upon complete the quest Kirtonos the Herald.
How to get in,any class no key.
Face the enterance to the building scholo is in.
Go in, turn right, go forward, turn left, turn right then up the stairs, keep going and turn right. You'll notice more steps, that lead to to roof. Go to the end of the roof on the left, and look down, if it's the scholo enterance, jump off it and lose around 20-30% health.
Continue to jump off. Once you die, run to your corpse. Enter building, turn left, run through the locked gate and click ressurect.
Note my directions are based off my mind they might be a little inaccurate.
If you're in a big room with no roof, then that's the wrong turning, simply walk out and go the opposite direction
Thanks to bullshift on Darksorrow for this tip!
Easy to solo as an 80 Frost Mage in quest/crafted blues. Only problems were the Risen Abominations/Aberrations (I didn't bring a holy wand and my weapon skill was too low to damage them). Other issue was I started AOE'ing the little dragons and ended up pulling Rattlegore and his buddies up from below. Other than that it took longer to loot everything than kill it.
Strat is probably more productive in terms of total gold, cloth, and stones, but Scholo is a lot faster. I still would have made more money doing dailies instead though I think, so only do this if you're leveling up an enchanter or getting the achievement.
i got hated by gadgetzan so i couldnt get the key what can i do?
The Cult of the Damned
, originally led by Kel'thuzad (a soul conscripted like so many of its other members, by the subtle beckoning of the Lich King enclosed inside the Frozen Throne), the catalyst of the destruction of Lordaeron, and those responsible for the death—
and raising, through necromancy
—of thousands, even millions, of men, women, and children. They are an arm, a separate section, to the Scourge, and a vital one at that: they are the mortal servants of the Lich King. And they do things which the undead cannot, such as infiltration in Valiance Keep (
The Hunt is On
) and in Sholazar Basin (
Exterminate the Intruders
"The Cult of the Damned has grown large in scope. Nearly every city, from the capitals to the small hamlets and hovels of both the Horde and Alliance, have Cult members hidden amongst their citizenry. Do not look so surprised. The Cult only wears a uniform for ritual and ceremony. It is quite possible that you have interacted with one during your adventures and not even known." (
) A major part of a Cultist's job, depending on their placement inside the organization, is infiltration of places (as listed above); largely, this is accomplished with an Orb of Illusion, an item given to every Initiate: "These artifacts are used to disguise a cult member, allowing them to gain safe passage, infiltrate, or simply blend in with an enemy." (
Drag and Drop
While the Orbs of Illusion may hide the visual effects of one's participation in Cult affairs (such as necromancy), there are certain things that simply cannot be hidden, not when an Oculus of the Exorcist, which allows those wielding it "to detect recent users of Cult of the Damned necromancy." (Item:
Oculus of the Exorcist
During its earlier years, the Cult preyed upon the outcasts in Lordaeron society—the abused, forgotten, unpopular, the failures—to fuel their agenda with willing, and wholly dedicated, individuals. They offered them anything—fame, power, glory, and money—to motivate them. Yet, simple devotion and a pledge of fealty is not enough; "pledges to the cult are forced to drink a concoction that steals their will and enslaves them forever to the Lich King." (
Using a plot of land owned by the Barovs, the Cult of the Damned opened up a clandestine academy named, Scholomance: here, Initiates of the Cult were trained in the art of Necromancy, indoctrinated with the dogma of the Cult, and fully converted to the ways of the organization. Cultist have a fascination with undeath; their greatest desire is to become undead (the ticket to immortality). And as such, their greatest punishment (and greatest motivation) is the threat of death without rebirth.
The Cult used the Plague of Undeath, a magically-enhanced disease which not only murdered its hosts but raises them as the undead, to destroy both of the Kingdom of Lordaeron. The grain shipments, using Andorhal as its main hub, was the device by which the Cult employed to spread the regnant Plague of Undeath. With each fallen foe, the Scourge grew—and the necromancers of the Cult were vital to achieving that overwhelming advantage against their enemy.
Currently, the only two members of the Cult of the Damned that are not inside the game-world are Ul'haik Hadanot and Pai Stormbringer; they are Next-in-Line to ascend to undeath, making them the mortal leaders of the Cult, and the only two members of this organization that are not dead, in the literal sense.
More information will be added in the future!
We did this on dungeon finder, but then people went so we were left with 3 people. Lvl 58-60
A ret-pally (also acted as healler)
and me on hunter lvl 60
It took ages, but man when ur having fun with people its worth it.
How I got the quest to start the Scholomance Key chain.
The door to Scholomance dungeon requires the Skeleton Key and to get that key you need to complete a chain of quests.
To start the chain I had to travel to the Bulwark which is on the border between Tirisfal Glades and Western Plaguelands. At the Bulwark I first had to do a couple of quests for High Executor Derrington. Once I had done these quests I was then given a quest to go to Apothecary Dithers, who is standing next to the High Executor.
Apothecary Dithers then gave me a series of quests.
What confused me was that I thought I could just go up to Apothecary Dithers and start the quest chain. However it did not work that way for me.
I tried to solo this last night with my level 80, 4k gearscore prot warrior. Killed Rattlegore along with a half dozen of his cronies at the same time and don't remember taking significant damage. Pulled entire rooms all at once and was just fine. Killed Jandice Barov at the same time as about 50 other undead and it was alright, just as it should be. Everything was a breeze till the shades...
As someone else mentioned, you can run into the room below and jump in the water and after a moment they'll reset. On most of them I was able to hit them hard enough or kill them fast enough that they died after a few tries. Yet there kept transforming before I could kill them... over and over and over again. Even if the very first hit took them down to 20% or less health, they'd still somehow manage to get the transformation in and become physical-immune. I finally gave up and left without the achievement.
The Crystal Spire buff that you can buy in the Un'Goro Crater will kill them, albeit very slowly at just 11 damage each time they hit you (and you don't block it). I managed to kill ONE this way just because it was already down to only about 400 hps, and it had to turn my back to it so that it could hit me.
I haven't tried using a shield spike, but it doesn't sound very magical.
the last stop before hitting tbc ones(instances) , this istance is pretty long , but it has pretty drops .
I advice for druids shamans and paladins to get it done around lvl 56-60 as you can get a relic blue quality
I've never done this place because the quest line is too long. Plus, I have no clue where to get the metal for the key. Anyone know where to get some?
Since the cataclysm, it requires level 33 to enter.
Anyone actually know if the old D1 drops still come out of this place anymore or have they been removed?
I've recently been gearing up my level 40ish alts here for pvping to 45. An easy way to farm rep, exp and gear for lowbies is to have a friendly high level(in my case a level 80 rogue on a second account) come in and just run through the instance while my alt is sat at the entrance.
Then you can pick and choose which bosses to go for, clear trash if you want the rep(i kept forgetting tabards). Then just rinse and repeat, got my hunter decently geared and working on my priest now. The only problem with this is the Dark Shades in the room with Instructor Malicia. If you're not a spellcaster, or if you can't drop aggro, run into the room below(which has water and contains the Ravenian). The Dark Shade can't follow and so it resets.
Oh and I've not actually seen any loot drop off The Ravenian, Loremaster Polkelt or Lady Illucia Barov. Might just be me though only done 10-15 runs so might be bad luck i guess.
Helpful hint if you are lvl 65 or higher when you get to The Coven room just walk past them and kill Instructor Malicia. No shades to worry about. I did this on my hunter.
****UPDATED INFO FOR CATACLYSM****
1) availability: just entered this instance on a lvl 43 priest, so no longer restricted to 45 and above- tho i can't say how low it does go. Dungeon finder says 38-48, so i wouldn't be surprised if lowest level is 38. A lvl 85 guildie ran me through and had no issue whatsoever with mobs (would have been surprised if they had! :p )
2) location: In W. Plaguelands on the big island in darromere lake. Chillwind fp is very close, just head east to the lake. The summoning stone is up the hill. The entrance is just inside to the LEFT- go through the big metal doors (NOT locked anymore) and down the stairs to the instance. no mobs between mtg stone and instance, and a pretty safe trip (mob-free) from the fp to the instance.
3) loot: LOTS. Tons of blues- several rooms with multi blue minibosses. LOTS of useful loot for mages (go figure) and several great enchant formulae (with very good level appropriate enchants for magic users) as well as a nice enchanting bag pattern for tailors. not to mention Mageweave and useful enchanting items.
If you're a magic class of any kind, as soon as your level is high enough to enter, i suggest you do so- often. XD It's an excellent grinding/leveling instance!
The lore to this place is incredibly awesome to me. :)
What worked great was
Fun thing is at the start you can shoot the mobs at the bottom and a huge army of undead will start coming at you... If you are bored then you can try it :)
I am farming scholomance for some transmog gear. About once every 5 instances or so, the viewing room door was bugging out completely and no matter what I tried, I was unable to proceed. No cogwheel is available. One time after killing the mini bosses around the study I was on my way out and it had closed itself. I was forced to hearth out as I was literally trapped inside the dungeon. lol
I didn't see anyone else mention it here, so I don't know if I was doing something wrong or not.
About once every 5 instances or so, the viewing room door was bugging out completely and no matter what I tried, I was unable to proceed.
This just occured to me. I had cleared all the bosses and was leaving to reset (farming gear), and the Viewing Room door was locked and I couldn't get out. Had to get killed by trash as I didn't wish to hearth out.
If there is any item you want from inside Scholo like the peasant caller trinket, headmasters charge, Aleana's Embrace or other transmog gear, then farm it before MoP hits live servers.
Massive changes to the instance include the removal of all the mini bosses which drop the blue sets, and it's not certain wheter the completely revamped main bosses will still drop the same loot as before, MoP-beta Scholo looks nothing like the live version.
This Dungeon is one of
Classic Dungeons that will receive a complete overhaul in Mists of Pandaria, including the removal of many current bosses, quests and items. Farm what you can now, and make sure if you have not seen Scholomance yet to visit it before it changes to get an idea (somewhat anyway since it's not 56-60 anymore) of what it was like back in the old days. It's definitely worth the time.
Ridiculous walk in the park for lvl 85 arcane mage. However, despite the remarks below, Darkmaster Gandling did NOT appear. Everything in this dungeon is dead as a door nail except the rats and quest givers...and me, of course...and this boss is nowhere to be found.
Is going to be changed in MoP. Maybe some items are going to be removed. Run it now, I advise!
Entrance is at 69.42 73.12.
I just solo'd this with a 64 BM hunter. Thanks for the advice! I was so lost and not understanding why he wouldnt spawn haha. He did port me to another room with 3 skeletons but they were finished fast and my pet was working on the boss. By the time I got back he was almost dead. I shot him as I ran in and he was down.
I was soooooo. happy to hear that Blizz will make a Heroic version of this instance for MoP.
Anyone know what zone it is in? I can't remember and the map only shows map of dungeon but not a map of where the dungeon is at. Or maybe I am doing something wrong. Seems like I have seen several of these where no one seems to state where the dungeon is at. I am new to Wow so I have to rely on maps and Wowhead alot. So any help on easier ways or links to finding things like this dungeon would be much appreciated.
This instance is FANTASTIC for farming faction rep with the main cities if you're still low enough. Have a level 85 (preferably a mage, AoE is great) run through here for you. You can just sit at the base of the stairs that come down from the entrance, and receive the exp, loot, and rep from every mob in the instance.
Also of note, the most efficient way to do this is at the start, have the 85 drop down in the first room to the room below. It's filled with mobs that despawn once you kill Rattlegore and are replaced. So you can get more rep/exp if you kill this group, kill Rattlegore, then kill the group that spawns. There are a total of 12 bosses who give 300 rep (for non-humans) and a full clear barely takes 20 minutes. That's 3600 rep just from the bosses. It's by far the most efficient place for rep grinding for those of you still low enough to get the full rep from kills.
I normally start running mine and my friend's alts through here starting at the minimum level to get in here, 33. By the time we leave at 40, a non-human character should have at least 2 factions at exalted.
Originally, if you ever wanted to make any of the 'Flask' potions, they required an alchemy lab. Scholomance was the only location of the labs, and you pretty much had to do a full clear of the place (the lab was in Ras Frostwhisper's room) in order to use the lab. Rogues/druids might have been able to stealth their way to it but I'm not certain.
This just made Flasks that much more epic and a pain to make, however, they were still a huge help for learning new raid encounters.
A little Scary thing in MoP.
I was in the Room where the Potion for the Transformation is located.(Polyformpoison)
If you go upstairs where the Alchemist Recruits are all over located you see two pictures of children.
I think they dont even match with the Dungeonstyle but the eyes of the pictures are following you.If you turn the Camera high it looks like they dont have eyes.
I was a bit scared. xD
this place is getting a revamp with mists of pandaria (5.0+) rendering most of the old information obsolete. it's also getting a heroic version for level 90 players.
Just ran the level 40 version of this. The loot (mostly noticed the plate) has some of the models and textures from Hour of Twilight gear! Getting this stuff at level 40-50 is really freaking cool!
Since the revamp the loot tables have been completely overhauled and none of the old items drop anymore, making the Deathbone, Bloodmail, Necropile and Cadaverous sets unobtainable in patch 5.0.4 and onwards.
In fact, the only remaining items that bear any resemblance to old drops are the Goresoaked Headreaper and Headmaster's Will.
This zone is no longer accessible in the game For the Mists of Pandaria version of Scholomance, see
I remembered that Scholomance was getting a revamp, so I went to have a look on my paladin. Standing around in the first room I thought it was neat, especially the "Mona Lisa" type paintings.
Until I started running to the gate.
Because the paintings are 3D.
And they turn creepily to follow you.
I switched to my main and slaughtered the instance.
The new version of Scholomance is definitely not as fun to run as the old one. The item sets are gone, the boss rooms aren't quite as unique, and the instance is much shorter. This was one of my favorite dungeons before, but now it just feels like an Outland dungeon with new graphics. Why did they change so much if it was *awesome* the way it was?
I'm trying to get an item and this says it drops from ScholomanceOLD, so is there a difference between ScholomanceOLD and Scholomance? If so is ScholomanceOLD still available? If it's not will the item still drop in Scholomance?
It'd be neat if they would bring back old school dungeons like this in retail for an anniversary event or something.
