For those wondering why they don't have this on their tanking DH, it's havoc only, and transforms into demon spikes.

You will jump back exactly 15 yards, assuming the ground is level and clear. Your hit will land from right up on the mob to the very edge of the red target ring ("hit box") which is the melee range (5 yards) limit.

(Yes those hit boxes can vary dramatically but trying to keep things simple here)

The Hard Yards AddOn at Curse or WoW Interface will help in this regard. (cough)

What snares does this ability remove? I've never been able to leap away when I've been stuck in place by something.

In my experience, snares seems to refer to slows which are a part of an ongoing effect. So not roots (which immobilize you) and not stuns, obviously. This is useful for the chains in Sanguine Depths for example, which slow and apply a dot on you.
